Don't you know the legend of the Lunatic Doctor?

Virgulino Batista was a secondary character in The Secret in the Forest, husband of Lurdete Batista and father of Ana Vitória Batista.

He was mentioned several times during the season, becoming a local legend after his death, being called "Lunatic Doctor". After the townsfolk of Pequena Carpa discovered the experiments that Virgulino did with his wife and daughter, he was buried alive near his home. A time later when the scientists settled in his house, they did some experiments with his remains, thus becoming the Carrion.

Appearance[]

The only details available about Virgulino’s appearance are that he would look like a 40-50 year old man, having dark hair.[3][4]

Biography[]

Virgulino Batista was born in 1864, married with Lurdete and had a daughter with the same in 1900, called Ana.[5] He worked as a helper for Dr. Verruckt in the treatment of patients with mental problems at the Pequena Carpa Sanatorium, but resigned on April 25, 1917, after disagreeing with the unethical and inhumane methods of his boss, Dr. Verruckt. After that, he was isolated in his house on the forest, living with his wife and daughter.

The Lunatic Doctor[]

On April 12, 1918, after hearing suspicious screams coming from the Batista Family's house, the residents of the town decided to investigate and found that Virgulino kept Aninha and Lurdete trapped in the basement, in addition to doing several experiments on both. Despite Virgulino’s intention was to cure them of a "mental infection" after visiting the cave, the population believed that the state of the two was the result of Dr. Virgulino’s own experiments. Thus, the population lynched him and buried him alive in his own backyard. Soon after, they took Ana and Lurdete to the Pequena Carpa Sanatorium for treatment.[6][7]

Black Carrion[]

In 2019, his decrepit remains were found and recovered by Valter Luz that carved the Spiral Symbol on his skull, making his body transform into the Black Death Carrion, who was imprisoned in the basement of Dr. Virgulino’s own home. Since its formation, the creature was extremely violent and irritable, making it difficult for anyone to sleep in the house.[8][9]

In 2020, the Carrion was freed in an act of madness by one of his creators, Eric Jour, who dies after contact with the herald. The creature finds Team H and the Scoundrel Vultures who, after taking countless shots from pistols and revolvers, has his skull destroyed, undoing his bond with the Dimensions Parasite and losing its physical form.[10]
