Welcome to Vento Baixo. Land of trees and devotion to the natural world.
City sign
Vento Baixo is a fictional city located in an urban area of the state of São Paulo, close to the city of São Paulo and its sister city Aurora. The place was involved in a major paranormal event, where it was surrounded by mists that spread throughout its surroundings, suffering several attacks from Rootten for weeks. After a while, a group from Ordo Realitas ended up, while returning from another mission, bumping into the city and getting involved in the mystery of this fog and monsters.[1]
General description and Landmarks[]
Vento Baixo is a large city surrounded by several trees and forests, known for its beautiful bucolic landscapes and festivals to celebrate rites for the legends of the forest guardians. The general structure of the city is made up of small houses, with a maximum of two floors, and streets paved with cobblestones and lined with flowerbeds.
The city has some points of interest, such as:
City Hall: Headquarters of the city's current mayor, being relatively new, renovated at the beginning of Reinaldo's mandate two years ago. It is a small building with a resistant wooden structure, using raw materials from the region itself. Currently used as a safe base for some residents who had their homes taken over by the mists.
Station: A small location that houses a team of a dozen police officers, where it was previously renovated by Mayor Reinaldo, a police officer at the time. It was one of the first residences targeted by the brumes, with the first attacks taking place and killing a large part of the police force. It is currently in ruins due to clashes with creatures.
Well: A deep stone well, a legacy of the old city, serving as the water supply for the old village that became the city, being in disuse nowadays. It was a place with a lot of movement of people, being a meeting point for young people due to the stone architecture and the statue of the Returned Angel, a gift from the city of Aurora in honor of the patron saint of Vento Baixo. It is currently partially covered in mist, especially on the path to the fog forest.
Historic Center: The center of Vento Baixo has the oldest structures in the city, serving as a meeting point between the most diverse regions of the place. It is made up of three main buildings:
- Health Post: A simple and suitable place for health treatments;
- Old City Hall: A majestic and imposing old stone building, damaged by time and with clear marks from the fire that occurred in the past. It was the headquarters of the city's previous mayors, with the last being Eliana Carvalho, used to store documents previously;
- Library: A building with a facade decorated with sculptures of orchids and other plants, being one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, as well as one of the oldest. The former mayor currently takes care of the library, keeping some documents from the old city hall with her. With the mists taking over the city, residents left their homes for fear of the mist reaching this neighborhood. It is currently abandoned, with the exception of the library, where Eliana lives.
Returned Angel camping: A forestry camp that had several tents for tourists, with the entrance having a large sign made of the same wood as the town hall. The campsite is an old place that has existed since the founding of the city, being under the care of the Florbela family for a long time and having a connection with the Returned Angel legend. It serves as one of Vento Baixo's main incomes, with many people coming from all over the country to camp close to the city, but still in contact with nature. Currently the campsite has been surrounded by brumes, where many campers are trapped and defending themselves against the Roottens.
Woods Axe: They are a wood extraction company, the largest in the region. It is responsible for part of the city's economy and jobs, having a headquarters at the entrance to the misty forest that originally served as an office to store documents and business files about the company's extractions. Currently, the headquarters has been adapted into a fort, with several pieces of furniture stacked at the entrance, protected by security guards and armed workers.
Fog Forest: The city's main natural attraction: a beautiful pine forest covered in light mists all year round, creating a truly bucolic landscape. It was the location of the Woods Axe extractions, where the accident with Jamila Duran occurred and where the mists that took over the city originated, coming from the Xilosapien who currently resides in the forest.
Local belief[]
The natural is highly respected in Vento Baixo, where the forests have their own local guardians, protecting the city's nature against those who disrespect it. In the past, they dedicated a moment of the day to make various offerings and treats to entities, becoming more unusual as time went by, especially with the arrival of Woods Axe.
Folklore says that people who die near forests end up becoming guardians too, but that they sometimes return to torment those they knew in life. Out of sympathy, the city hangs personal items on the front door, in order to scare away entities that come too close.
Eliana says that it is a very common mistake to think that the one who protects the city is the Returned Angel because of the statue erected in his honor near the well.
History[]
Foundation[]
Coming of European origin, Dawn was founded more than a hundred years ago as a small village that had a well in its center, where it grew until it became a city. It is the younger sister city of Aurora, where the city sent the statue of the "Returned Angel" as a gift.
Environmental Problems[]
In current times, three years before the mission, a fire occurred in the old city hall, where several residents blamed the mayor at the time, Eliana Carvalho. The following year, Reinaldo became mayor, inviting the company Woods Axe to form a partnership. The company provided several of the raw materials taken from the Fog Forest for some buildings in the city, such as the new city hall, a gymnasium and a theater.
During this time, several protests took place, the main protesters being former mayor Eliana and activist Jamila Duran, daughter of the current mayor. In one of these protests, the two led a masked protest that came from the misty forest to the company's headquarters, where the masks of "entities of roots and vines" even scared some workers, but in the end nothing came of it.
Xilosapien's Emergence[]
After several protests, which even resulted in arrests a few times, Jamila ended up being caught by surprise by one of the company's machines, ending up chopping and decapitating the young woman. With the police case closed by the mayor, the company continued its operations until mists appeared in parts of the city, in addition to several attacks by paranormal creatures. Without them knowing, the Xilosapien, Jamila's transformation into an aberration, merged with the mist of the forest, using this to take over the city and take it to nature again, in addition to persecuting the repentant for food.
Brumes of Vento Baixo[]
While returning from another mission, a group of Ordo Realitas agents end up getting lost in the mists, being attacked by Awakened Rootten. After the attack, the group meets with Reinaldo Duran, who asks for help from investigators to deal with what is happening in Vento Baixo.
