Traveler

An invisible creature that feeds on memories.
It clings to photographs of lonely people, slowly devouring their faces.
After feeding enough, the Traveler is able to come hunt down its memories physically.

The Traveler is a paranormal creature of Energy with complements of Knowledge and Fear,^[2]^[3] being originated from the notes of Daniel Hartmann, inspired by the photographer Salazar Lourenço^[4] that, with the Forced Haunt Ritual marked in Salazar's own coffin, made the monster real.^[5] This creature can teleport through photographs of its victims, seeking an opportunity to devour their memories.

Its first appearance was in the 9th episode of Deconjuration, being invisible and only being revealed by getting dirty with the blood of Tristan Monteiro after killing him.^[6] Later, the Traveler appears in the 11th episode fighting D-Force,^[7] who had figured out a way to make it visible for a few seconds. It was killed by Joui Jouki, that rips off the creature’s head only using its own hands, similar to what the creature itself had done with Tristan Monteiro previously.^[8]

Appearance[]

The Traveler at first remains completely invisible, making it impossible for its prey to react to its attacks. But when it has its Enigma of Fear solved and is photographed by some electronic device, it becomes visible for a few seconds.^[9]

The Traveler has a slim physical build, elongated limbs and a whitish skin tone. Its stature is very high with more than 6.5 feet tall and with a curved posture. The creature’s head has several mixed faces that have several different features, having crooked mouths and teeth, with the main one sketching a big macabre smile.^[7] When wounded, it is revealed that the Traveler’s blood is dark purple,^[10] and its body is not totally physical because it is composed of Energy.

Behaviour[]

Initially, the Traveler transports itself through the photographs of its target, consuming the faces present in them, leaving only empty faces. After causing enough despair and trauma, it will manifest itself physically,^[1] distorting the then empty faces of the photographs in despairing and terrifying smiles, and causing temporary amnesia to disrupt and confuse its victim.^[11]

Because of its weight, when walking in an environment in its physical form the Traveler loses some of its subtlety because of its heavy and noisy steps.^[12] On the other hand, it often bypasses this by sneaking between the walls and ceiling, or even teleporting.

When attacking a victim, the Traveler pulls it down the sides of its mouth with its long fingers, tearing its face and forming a large forced smile. With its brute force, the creature soon completely rips off the victim’s upper jaw, leaving the human head.^[6] Because it is not content with meat, it exploits its brain and then devours its memories. After killing its victim and satisfying its wish, if it is not attacked, it leaves. But if it does not succeed in killing its prey or is surrounded by enemies, the Traveler tends to fight for more memories or just a way to escape.

The Traveler can also access the memories of its target still alive, only to satisfy himself momentarily before killing it and devouring them completely.^[13]

Abilities[]

Permanent Invisibility: The Traveler has the ability to become completely invisible in seconds at will,^[14] and can also make invisible what comes into contact with your skin.^[15] However, this creature’s invisibility can be stopped for a few seconds if its Enigma of Fear is solved, that is, photographing or filming it.^[9]

Devour Memories: The Traveler’s main form of food is devouring the memories of its victims, causing them to forget themselves gradually,^[11] or even more immediately and directly when snapped by the creature.^[13] If its victim carries souvenir photos with it, the Traveler will gradually replace the faces of those portrayed in the photos with an empty face causing its victim to forget who they are.^[16] Whenever the Traveler approaches, a scary look and a macabre smile replace all the empty faces in the photos, warning about its presence.^[4]

Paranormal Physique: Despite having a lean physique, the Traveler possesses great strength. In addition, its skin has a certain resistance to damage it receives.

Teleport: The Traveler possesses the ability to teleport, compressing its entire body and reappearing elsewhere. It is unknown how far the creature is able to move using this ability as it used it only to reposition itself during combat.^[17]

Adherence: The Traveler has the ability to walk fairly easily over steep surfaces or even upside down, being able to grab its victims and lift them by the mouth with only its feet on the ceiling.^[18]

Trivia[]

In the 20th episode of Deconjuration, Cellbit revealed that the Traveler ran away scared after looking Luciano Carvalho's memories due to him having Kian's memories asleep inside of him.^[19]
The Traveler's idea wouldn't exist if Kaiser didn't carry a camera and didn't have the habit of taking pictures.^[20]
