Goodbyes is the fourth episode of The Secret in the Woods. It aired on May 2, 2020.
Synopsis[]
The burial of one of them shakes the group. Brúlio's past, the local bikers gang leader, gives clues about one of the occultist operation bases.
Summary[]
Thiago, stuck in a kind of labyrinth, a completely whitish and empty place, only with the spiral symbol, as if it were the only thing that inhabits his mind. Also with a different time than the normal world, making the time he was there seem like an eternity. He walked through the labyrinth aimlessly until he finally found something different: an exit door. Just as he would pass by, a mysterious figure appears behind him, revealing to be Cristopher.
Thiago explains the situation of what happened with Mr. Getúlio and how he went to this place, that he is alone for an inexplicable time, but Cristopher already knowing of his death, says that he always loved his father, and asks him to take care of his som and says goodbye with a hug.
Thiago wakes up seeing a very strong storm starting to arrive that extinguishes all the flames of the forest. Thiago asks for Cris, says they need to save him, but it was too late. The Vultures go to the place, looking for Arthur and the group. Without understanding, Brúlio asks what was happening, just to see Arthur crying, realizing that the ideal was not to interrupt the moment.
The members of the team console Cesar, who has a panic crisis and cries, desperately. He remembers joyful moments they both had, like when his father carried him on his shoulders as a child, and realizes that it will never happen again. With a shovel borrowed by Ivete, Cesar buries his father near the Ape Hangers. The hardest part was covering Cris' face, who died the same way he always lived: smiling. The hacker says it’s cold inside, but he knew his father would warm him up from afar. Thiago and Liz, in respect, leave in the makeshift grave, respectively, the watch of his father and the photo of her mother. Then, little by little, the group enters the bar in silence.
Cesar opens up to Brúlio talking about his father, while Elizabeth and Joui drinks excessively. Thiago and Cesar go to the hotel, and Arthur continues in the bar. Brúlio goes to them and begins to make a small interrogation about what was happening. Simultaneously, Marcelo goes to check with Arthur where Mr. Getúlio was. His corpse is discovered by the gang, and Brúlio explodes in rage. He demands from Liz and Joui an explanation, with the tone of voice much more aggressive than usual.
Despite the visible anger and hurt, the leader of the Vultures could not extract information from both because of the drink, receiving only needles and is informed about the "spider", vaguely and insensitively. Without offering answers, Elizabeth and Joui are kicked off from the bar and taken on Arthur’s motorcycle to the hotel.
At the reception, there was someone else, Rodrigo, instead of Murilo, who deals with a mix-up involving drunk Liz and Joui. Everyone’s sleeping in their rooms except Liz, who sleeps on the stairs most of the night. Arthur goes home after spending time crying on the corner of the hotel and tries to rest.
Cesar is the first to wake up, going to the stationery to print his father’s photo - taken on Pequena Carpa Sanatorium - pto keep as a souvenir. Then he returns to the hotel and waits for his friends. Joui wakes up shortly after, talking to the new receptionist, sharing some photos and videos of Liz, specifically, the video of her trying to grab the dart and hitting the chair and a picture of her lying on the stairs, taken at dawn. He asks about somewhere to have coffee and Rodrigo recommends Casper's Diner.
Arthur and Thiago wakes up at about the same time, and without talking much, leave their respective places. Finally, Liz wakes up, and also goes, like the others, to the diner. They order a snack, the famous "Letício's Llonguet", and have a brief discussion about the lack of empathy with the Vultures, for not having said anything to them, making light of the loss of a longtime friend of the gang.
At the bar, with Arthur, the Vultures set up Getúlio’s station after burying him, and pray for him. The quintet arrives shortly after, explaining to the entire gang about the paranormal order and the occultists, as well as the danger that occurred the night before if Arthur had not trusted them and prevented.
Shortly after, the disappearance of one of the Vultures is announced, Gregório, possibly kidnapped by the Haunteds. Using his skills as a hacker, Cesar gets an approximate location of where Gregório possibly is, thanks to his cell phone.
After a brief search without much direction, Joui suggests that they visit Virgulino's house, because they have the address of the house, which is in a rural area: Terçalho Freitas Road. It is then that Brúlio informs the group that he already knew this place, but had not heard about it for years, since it no longer exists. He keeps telling about his past, saying it was the road where he and Rodolfo (his former friend, leader of the Haunteds) bet races, and never liked the place, while his former friend liked it very much, even being a dangerous and very closed environment that entered very deeply into the forest. Brúlio says that Rodolfo had a "thirst for blood", wanted to kill people, and that despite initially committing crimes with him, after having his son, Arthur, kicked off his former friend from the Scoundrel Vultures, saying that he would not accept this kind of attitude anymore, and after a fight in which they almost killed themselves[2], Rodolfo created the Haunteds, while he continued with the Vultures. The group then agrees that this is a good place to look for a possible hiding place for the Haunteds - which is also within the location where Cesar tracked Gregório’s cell phone - and stop in front of a billboard on a very old street, already abandoned for about 20 years. After analyzing the place, Thiago sees a hidden trail, where it seems that several motorcycles enter, then Arthur leaves his bike aside and everyone follows inside the car, driving inside the way - eventually having the confirmation that they found the base of the Haunteds - the group finds a large abandoned house, the site that used to be the Virgulino's house - where he lived and did his experiments - now it has graffiti walls, broken windows and a dead garden. When Arthur discovers that there is no signal to send a message to his father and the group prepares to enter the house, the episode ends.
