I didn't protect the only person that needed me.
Cliff is the fifth episode of The Secret in the Island. It aired on July 23, 2022.
Synopsis[]
The bell is getting louder. Amelie, Bárbara, Milo, Olivier and Wanderley gather to find out more about the mysteries surrounding the Moretti's Mansion. However, paranormal animals, a revealing picture and a lot of bloodshed will make them question their own emotions and what to do from now on.
Summary[]
Olivier awakens in the middle of the mansion. On leaving, he sees the silhouette of the lighthouse from afar. The boy tries to get there, but can not. He tries to go to the room of Wanderley; however, when passing through the big painting of Constantino, he hears the painting whispering to him. Olivier puts his ear to the picture and hears sounds of brushstrokes coming from behind the object. The painting is in a liquid medium form, similar to that described in the nightmares of the previous episode. The Florence touches the painting and decides to enter, waking up from his nightmare.
Meanwhile, Milo awakens in Bárbara's house alone. As he leaves the house and goes to the mansion, he sees several figures in the windows. He enters the residence and notices that the water level begins to rise, flooding the place. The boy runs, trying to climb the stairs, and goes to Wanderley’s room. Milo hears the cry of a man behind the bookcase. By opening it like a door, Milo awakens from his nightmare.
Wanderley wakes up in the mansion. He arranges his things, which had been overturned by the four youngers the day before, and goes to the bathroom. The man hears Olivier and Amelie waking up. They talk for a while, and as soon as Wanderley leaves the bathroom, Amelie decides to take a shower.
Milo and Bárbara wake up. Barbara hands her diary to Milo and makes one more attempt to talk to her mother. However, the conversation ends with a fight. Milo intervenes, preventing Lívia from slapping Bárbara, and attempts to talk privately with Lívia. Bárbara asks to see her mother’s diary, saying she couldn’t keep things from herself. Lívia says she did not know where the key was, but that it must have been somewhere in the mansion. Milo reads Bárbara’s notes as the two youngers walk to the mansion.
At the Moretti's Mansion, everyone gets ready and goes to the kitchen to have breakfast. Bárbara and Milo arrive at that moment. They have little time to talk, since Evandro suddenly appears and arrests Montel, accusing him by mentioning that there were fingerprints of the Florence's patriarch in the painting that pointed to him as suspicious. Everyone tries to argue with the cops, but they can’t. Angelina claims that Montel has a certificate, proving that he has a condition that makes it impossible for him to paint and draw. They run to get the certificate and, as soon as they find it, they run towards the village to show it to Návia; trying to prove that Montel could not have drawn the picture. However, in the middle of the way, a boar appears.
But this time, it looks different. The boar is monstrous, almost a putrid corpse, which is somehow still alive. Its ribs are apparent and the meat is rotten, like a zombie. Everyone leaves desperate, but they are too far from the village and need to fight; so they look for improvised weapons while Wanderley pulls out a revolver, managing to kill the boar after a few shots. They decide to burn the remains and run to the village, where they see the bodies of some animals similar to the boar - who were killed by the island’s police.
Everyone but Wanderley enters the police station to barricade the place, to which he and the police stand outside to fight the monsters. The group runs to the church. With the help of Vagner Freitas, they kill the other zombies that had run there. One of the infected dogs runs to the locked room and, after killing the monster, everyone wonders why they did not open the door to find out what is in the room, thus discovering what insanely attracted the monsters. When opening the room, they observe a place that seems to have been completely burned, having only a painting anchored in the wall - a painting that generates a strange feeling; filling the group with the desire to look at it alone. Wanderley is the most affected and, after a conversation, manages to convince others to let him see the painting alone.
Bárbara and Milo, with Evandro and Otávio, keep following the blood trail. The trail leads to the lighthouse, which is full of dead bodies of bitten creatures. As they go upstairs, they find no one and try to avoid the feeling of the painting. After barely succeeding, they leave and follow the trail that leads them to the mansion.
Wanderley sees the painting. He feels free of himself, wanting to forget his greatest regret. He wants to get rid of the memory of trying to save his sister from the bite of a poisonous snake, although it was a fruitless attempt. Wanderley hears someone calling him. And it is at this moment that he realizes that his hand is no longer his hand.
He's on the mansion's gardens. Someone calls him and Wanderley goes to cliff: there's a figure waiting him, exuding disappointment and regret. A melted silhouette of a man with simple clothes, that tries to say that loves her; that loves Noralma. He pulls Wanderley, living the memories of Noralma Moretti in his body, to see his eyes, making him see the abyss. He fights against, even throwing the man off the cliff. However, at the same time, they change places. Wanderley, as Noralma, feels falling off the cliff along the letters of a familiar name. From Tobias F. Conclior, the name of the boy in love with Noralma Moretti, is formed Francisco Oblito.
Wanderley leaves the trance with his burnt arms, gaining his first paranormal power. Then they go to the square; but the crowd is present and the group discovers that Amora went out again with her friend. She left a drawing; saying that she should go to him soon and, if not for her, he would take another one.
Bárbara and Milo, along with the officers, find in the mansion Mrs. Lívia and next to her, Celestino, that doesn't look like a human anymore. Beastly, the lightkeeper jumps and attacks Lívia. They start to fight and suddenly, Evandro starts feeling sick, dropping in the floor vomiting blood and fainting out. In the middle of the fight, Celestine tears Lívia’s neck out, while Milo and Otávio continue to shoot Celestino. Until Bárbara, with the fishwife she took from the Castello, kills Celestino and stabs him several times on the stairs.
On the beach, next to where Cavalcante died, Wanderley, Olivier, Amelie, Barnabé and Adrian look for Amora's whereabouts. They end up in a cave, where there is an old statue identical to Amora’s imaginary friend. Although they try, the debris prevents them from entering the cave, but they notice that the child footprints near the statue appear to be old.
They decide to separate: one group goes to the mansion and the other to the village. At the mansion, Wanderley reveals that Cavalcante had disguised himself as a tourist where Wanderley worked as a guide, due to the local urban legends. Cavalcante confronted, alone, the monster that inhabited the lake of the tourist region. In telling the story, Wanderley reveals a rifle, assembled from parts made to look like building materials. He also hands a number to Amelie and mentions that if they leave the island and something happens to him, it was to call the number on the paper and talk to the Order.
Olivier, Barnabé and Adrian return to the village and find Amora, who claims to have stayed at home as her father had said. In the end, they go to the uproar that occurs at the police station. They see a terrifying scene, similar to the horrendous death of Cavalcante: faceless, the lifeless body of Bartô Castello.
Beside, there is a painting depicting the exact scene; however, with the presence of a creature behind the deceased body.
