Team H is the sixteenth and final episode of The Secret in the Forest. It aired on July 25, 2020.

Synopsis

Team H heads to Holy Cradle's heart with explosives to destroy it. Fighting against death and insanity, Liz, Thiago, Joui, Cesar and Arthur finds that giving their lifes to accomplish the mission can mean something more macabre than they thought.

Summary

After hearing Team Kelvin's tragic story, Team H, joined by Kenan Thomas, explore the other cells in the corridor they’re in. In one of them, they find a young Source, which tries to escape its cloister, but is detained by Cesar and Kenan. They find, in the next cells, an elderly Source, obsessed with the Symbol, and another catatonic, who just stares Elizabeth indefinitely. The last, and the youngest, attacks the team, but is held by Arthur and put back in its cell.

Leaving, the six explore the tunnels of the cave, but before moving on, they remember the bag of explosives left there by Kenan thirty years before. They decide to go back and find it, but get lost in the way, and are attacked by an Ooze Zombie. After Joui accidentally injured Cesar, Thiago kills it with a shot. Eventually, they find the tunnel where Kenan left the explosives, and everoyne decides to follow behind the disturbing pulsation that dominates the cave.

On the way, Liz clashes with the group, obstinate with the idea of killing the springs to weaken the Parasite. Thiago, Joui and Arthur claim that they cannot condone killing an innocent creature. Kenan says that if Liz’s intention is to kill all the springs, she’d better kill him too. Disappointed that the rest of the team did not pay attention to the reports left by Eric Jour, the scientist enters one of the cells and points the gun to the head of one of the springs.

Joui tries to stop her, arguing that this is not what she taught him, but Liz replies that he should have listened more to Thiago, because she is not a good person. QWhen she is about to shoot, Thiago intervenes, asking him what the letter H means in the name of their team. He asks her to have hope, to believe that everything will work out, and tells her that she would rather not sacrifice innocent lives and fight for the 1% chance of saving them than betray her ideals. With tears, the two hug and leave the cells.

Following the path towards the beats that echo in the cave, the team finds more and more ooze coming out of the walls, until they come across a huge beating heart, sustained in the air, the Parasite. They decide to blow it up with explosives, and Kenan climbs one of the tentacles to install them. NAt this time, the remaining five are surprised by the deep voice of The Blacksmith.

The former member of Team Kelvin argues with Thiago, Liz, Joui, Cesar and Arthur, begging them not to destroy Holy Cradle, as this will result in the death of all those who live in the place, innocent people who were not to blame for anything. The team argues that the Lusidii are being kept under hypnosis and, according to Doctor Eric’s studies, the Holy is just a tool to feed the Dimensions Parasite.

The discussion seems to go nowhere, and the Blacksmith attacks the five, who gradually manage to contain him. He appeals to Thiago to not follow through with his plan, and Liz takes the opportunity to execute him with a shot.

With the Blacksmith dead, Kenan bids farewell to his friend and mounts the explosives to destroy Holy Cradle. The group takes distance, but when he prepares to detonate the explosives, something seems wrong. The feeling that it would go wrong takes him. And that’s when they realize, the ooze was changing. And now it seems to concentrate in one place. That place is the body of the Blacksmith. The ooze begins to take hold of him, and he slowly rises, with an imposing appearance beginning to appear, all covered in ooze, only with his skull exposed releasing the ooze from his eyes, and with the giant spiral symbol on his chest. That was no longer the Blacksmith. That was the birht of The God of Death.

Everyone tries to shoot the God of Death, who seems invincible. Eventually, the creature grabs Liz in the hands and, staring her deep in her eyes, freezes time. Trapped in the monster’s hands, Liz feels time run extremely slowly. Days, months, years... 22 years pass without her being able to escape, while everyone around her remains almost frozen, moving slowly. Over time, her skin wrinkles, her hair turns white and her mind almost goes crazy, trapped in that temporal distortion. In the eyes of the others, Liz seems to become an accelerated figure in time, while the monster just holds her suspended in the air. After seeing this scene, Kenan goes to complete insanity, and in a frenzy of madness, the man puts the explosives on his own back and bounces back towards the God of Death.

This nightmare stops the instant Thiago manages to hit two shots into the creature’s skull. Realizing that Kenan can kill everyone there, Cesar, at great cost, shoots him in the head and kills him. Noticing the explosives on the ground, Thiago picks up the detonator and yells for everyone to run, while being grabbed by the God of Death. Everyone is reluctant and sad about the situation, but follow Thiago’s request and run as fast as possible away from the monster.

For the journalist, decades and decades pass. His mind cannot resist the passage of time, and the only thing that keeps him alive is the idea of saving his friends. When, finally, already 84 years old, he is sure that the explosion will not hit Team H, Thiago presses the detonator button. The cave is engulfed in flames. Liz, Joui, Cesar and Arthur watch their friend die, sacrificing himself to save the ones they loved.

Feeling defeated, with the weight of death on their shoulders, the four drag out. Back in the village, hell seems to have taken Holy Cradle. The houses and all their gray inhabitants burn spontaneously. The group sees the body of the Hotelier, charred, and of the Nurse, who seems to have survived the flames, but was killed in a fit of madness of her Lusidii friends.

Team H crosses the forest, slowly, back to Carpazinha, where the officer Victor Rott goes into shock seeing them like that. Without much explanation, Arthur asks to take him to Ivete's house. Then, everyone reunites in the backs of the Ape Hangers, for a symbolic funeral of Thiago, near the bodies of Cristopher and the Vultures. They dig graves for Thiago and Kenan, and Joui puts his bracelet with his friends' pendants in Thiago’s grave, and a grenade in Kenan’s grave. Liz, with her mind still in pieces by the traumatic experience, bids farewell to her best friend the way she can. Cesar asks Arthur for a cigarette, trying to honor the journalist, but does not understand how they can smoke, because the feeling is bad. Arthur talks to Ivete in secret, and picks up a bunch of shirts from the Scoundrel Vultures. He explains that he will have to go to São Paulo, to present the report of that tragic mission to the Order. Ivete says that if he intends to leave there, she will go with him, because there is nothing else holding her in Carpazinha.

A few days later, Liz, Joui, Cesar and Arthur reunite at the Alpha Commercial Tower in downtown São Paulo. Liz is drunk, and Arthur gives his friends the Vultures' shirts, trying to cheer up the group. Mr. Verity invites Team H to enter the room. Liz confronts him, pouring into him the frustration that became her life and hands him the mission report. Engrossed, Mr. Verity vents, saying that he does not understand why all the missions of the Order have resulted in failures. He says he sees no alternative but to appeal to a new approach. In this, the group is surprised with Agatha Volkomenn joining the room, on Gabriel Opspor's body, with a sly smile on her face.

Trivia

• Leo Santi, as Kenan Thomas, was the first guest in the series to participate in more than one episode.
• After the agents left the cave, they would come across various monsters called Roottens, that would form from the forest of Holy Cradle and force them to leave. However, this idea was not used, because Cellbit believed that it would break the mood of Thiago’s death.
• According to the master, Thiago would not need to have sacrificed, due to Cristopher have detached him from the symbol. However, he probably would have died anyway, from the burns of the explosion.
