I knew it, I knew they were going to bring you here, after what I did. (...) Sorry, Miner. I can't let these ignarii touch these crystals. I can't let you.

The Cave is the thirteenth episode of The Secret in the Forest. It aired on July 4, 2020.

Synopsis[]

Between the fog and the brilliant cristals of Holy Cradle's cave, the team firms their fellowship, fights horrible monsters and finds more answers than they thought.

Summary[]

Led by The Miner, the team enters the Cave of Holy Cradle in search of a sealed door which they believe to hold the key: the gray card. The Miner instructs them to stay close and not touch the walls. Asked, he explains that although the cave is full of green crystals, its healing power cannot be applied right there, because the stone needs to be dilapidated to gain effect. Then, guided by the light of a red crystal in the Miner's helmet, the group prepares to enter the cave, until Cesar notices that Arthur stayed behind, afraid. The musician is afraid to move on, because he believes that everyone can die, but the colleague calms him down, saying he understands him, because since his father was gone he feels very alone, but at least he has the rest of the group to support him. With this, they hug and go after others.

With the Miner in the lead, the five decide to hold hands so as not to get lost in the fog of the cave. They follow among the dark columns of the site, until they are surprised by sounds of drilling coming from under the ground. Then, an Ooze Mole jumps from the ground, attacking Thiago's face. More three of them surrounds the group, and meanwhile, a group of Batterflies appears. The group finds themselves trapped, but little by little, they manage to kill all the creatures, suffering only minor injuries.

Ahead, the team is guided by a tunnel of red crystals, where they are attacked by a Maggake, that hurts Thiago, but is destroyed by Arthur and the Miner. After the battle, Elizabeth, desperate to not lose her best friend, uses one of the jars of green crystals that they were given by The Doctor to heal Thiago's ribs.

When the Miner says the next tunnel is full of blue crystals, that produce cold, Cesar is very afraid to follow, due to his cryophobia. Joui is the first to notice Cesar’s hesitation and warns the group, who, as a way to comfort him, surround him with human warmth, staying around him to protect him, and the Lusidii gives his red crystal helmet to warm him.

In that chamber, the group is surprised by a vacuum cleaner sound, similar to what they heard at the Holy Cradle Hotel. Suddenly, a long creature with a suction mouth appears. The Miner introduces it as the Succ. The creature attacks Thiago, and clings to his face, sucking all his oxygen. The others try to hit Succ’s neck, injuring it little by little, until when Thiago is about to die, Cesar makes the monster ingest a red stone with his sling and it explodes.

When the Miner comments that they are already becoming Lusidii, Arthur manages to mimic Joui’s transformation, obtaining the gray skin and black eyes. Soon after, the group comes across the sealed door they were looking for. Liz inserts the black card of the Crazy Gramps in a gap next to it, and that brings up the Spiral Symbol in the metal, with some kind of combination to open it. With no idea what to do, the Miner offers the five to go to another part of the cave, and guides them to a larger tunnel, with black crystals that looks like it emanates shadows. However, there, they notice a slender figure, hiding and nailing something, carrying a knife: The Gatekeeper.

Alarmed, they prepare to attack him, but are surprised by the Miner, who suddenly attacks Cesar. The hacker walks away to heal his rib wound, but when he does, the crystal ends up bringing out his Lusidii form. Confused, the investigators try to confront the giant Lusidii, who does not hesitate to use his pick to tear off Arthur’s arm, leaving him between life and death. The Gatekeeper pulls a jar of green crystals from his hand, and applies it first to the mouth and then to the bleeding vulture. Cesar uses his sling, and shoots a red crystal into the enemy’s eye, while Joui attacks him from behind. Angry, the Miner heals and grabs Cesar by the hair, dragging him towards the black crystal.

Everyone tries to free him, but it is Thiago, with his sword, who finally manages to kill the giant, demanding him to release his brother. The Miner falls at the Crystal’s feet, babbling something about The Holy. While treating the mutilated Arthur, the group demands explanations from the Gatekeeper. He explains that the members of the Order do not know the truth about the Holy Cradle, and that he did not tell them the truth at first because he did not know whether he could trust them. The Gatekeeper tells that he was created as a Source, locked from the world, with only the image of the Symbol as a reference. He knew nothing but the symbol. It was as if they were one.

Gradually, his mother, The Blacksmith, decided to bring him to the outside world, where he began to realize the cycle of control that happens within his community. Your father, the current Blacksmith, keeps all the Lusidii in a kind of trance after touching the black crystal during their Trial. The Gatekeeper explains that his goal, by killing his friends - The Helper and The Collector - was to free them from the influence of the Holy a kind of entity that hides behind those walls. Now he asks for the help of the five ignarii to destroy Holy Cradle, and free his brothers trapped inside the Infinite Labyrinth.

When Liz cites having the key to the door, the Gatekeeper says he may have the combination for it. Meanwhile, Cesar thanks Thiago for saving him, and, responding to what he had said during the battle, also considers him as a brother. Liz approaches Arthur, who desperately tries to use his sledgehammer with one hand. And then the penny drops, and he realizes he’ll never be able to play guitar again. After a while reflecting, the last Vulture tells him that he is very happy to be alive and that he would not be down, because even if he can never play guitar, he still has a lot to accomplish in life. Finally, everyone stands in front of the door. The Gatekeeper identifies the wrong symbols projected on the metal and with that, it unlocks itself, ending the episode.
