I've come to offer you a pact.
The Devil[1]
The Devil is the name given to the Relic of Blood wielder. This entity of Blood with complements of Knowledge and Fear, is said to be one of the most significant manifestations of the Other Side in the history of Reality, never being defeated, controlled or imprisoned, and also being capable of summoning and controling every paranormal creature associated with Blood on the Reality. The mentions of this machiavellian figure are present in various legends and cultures present in the Reality.[2] Everyone heard about The Devil, but few people had the feeling of displeasure and agony of meeting it.
The Devil is constantly mentioned as an entity that can be conjured through a ritual, offering gifts to those who forge pacts with the creature, with payment being charged a while later.[3]
Its first appearance in Paranormal Order was in the "Prologue", where the entity appears only in a recording made by Cícero Gominho,[4] a resident of Bariguara, to whom it offered a pact. But it fully appeared only in the 1st episode of Calamity, inside the safe of the Leone's Mansion, where it appeared in front of Team Vultures, offering them a new pact.[5] From this moment, it is known that the entity is possessing the body of Henri, a former member of the Escribes that survived the Final Day of the Deconjuration.[6]
Appearance[]
The Devil is a humanoid creature of reddish skin and black eyes with bright yellow irises, two horns coming from its head that extend upwards, a large nose, ears and pointed teeth - most of the time The Devil forces its face into a disturbing smile - its right hand is always covered in Blood, having elongated fingers and claws in place of nails on its hands and feet, both red in color. It wears a long black tunic that extends to the ground with red accents, loose long sleeves with tears at the ends, and a hood that covers its head and neck.[5]
The Devil is represented in a page of the Diary of God by the image of a creature half-demon and half-animal, like a power figure sitting on a throne surrounded by Blood Zombies, and with the same disturbing smile stamped on its face.[7]
Personality[]
The Devil is an ancient paranormal entity, which has extreme consciousness and intelligence, something rarely seen in entities of Blood on the Other Side, which commonly act in a very animalistic way. The Devil presents itself as a controlling and arrogant being, showing great appreciation for intense feelings such as anger and resentment. Being extremely sure of itself, this figure sees other individuals as inferior, only helping with its "gifts" those with whom it forges its Pacts. It does not act in a subtle way and sees no problem when being summoned personally by something that arouses its interest.
The Devil, by having a strong relationship with the extreme feelings of the Blood, completely hates the Element of Knowledge, swearing its destruction in Reality.[8]
Biography[]
Past[]
The Devil is an ancient entity, described mainly in Catholicism as a grotesque and evil figure, with goat legs, horns, reddish skin, bat wings and many other descriptions as horrible. It was the one who punished sinners in hell. At one point, Arnaldo Fritz showed interest in the figure of The Devil and began to study it, finding a point in common among the accounts of it presence: the "Mark of the Pact" was always present where The Devil had been seen.[9]
Davo Brothers[]
At some point, the two brothers Juan and Lucas Davo came into contact with The Devil by unknown means to form a pact. They then created the "Diabolical Circus" and "The Devil’s Show", which gained fame for being a freak show that ended up being banned for unknown reasons, and both brothers were arrested for committing a variety of crimes, from robberies to murders. They ended up escaping from prison, leaving behind just the Pact Symbol.[9]
After parting ways with his brother, Juan becomes obsessed with trying to "bring The Devil back", creating a new circus, now without Lucas. Failing for unknown reasons, he ends up returning to Bariguara in Mato Grosso's interior where he meets Elza Verlaz.[10] Around 1998, after Juan and Elza had a son named Lúcio, they try to use the baby for a ritual in order to contact the Devil,[11] but they're stopped by Arnaldo Fritz and other two Ordo Realitas agents.[12] With the help of one of the neighbors, Eusébio Teixeira, he stops the ritual, killing Juan after he transformed into a creature[9] and locking the basement of Elza’s house with a cursed padlock so that no one could open it without the proper combination.[13]
Calamity[]
Years later, the Devil returns to Bariguara, now with The Needy transformed as a child, coming to get its payment with Elza, where it ends up being recorded by Cícero Gominho in one of those visits.[4] It showed up every night,[14] knocking on her door, leaving a book and leaving right next, making her slowly going insane while strengthening it by offering her blood and recreating its image through statuettes.[15] Until one night, that "Devil’s Child" walks into her house, killing her brutally.[16]
At the same day, Team Vultures from Ordo Realitas is warned by Felipe Firmino to investigate the case of Elza Verlaz's death. Their neighbors, Cícero and Terezinha Gominho, comment on the suspicious movement that occurred in front of the woman’s house, and the agents enter to investigate the place. After a few hours without news, the policeman and neighbors decide to check the agents, allegedly worried. However, Cícero reveals to have made a pact with the Devil, promising that only by "opening the door" would he be rewarded with better living conditions.[17] Cícero opens the house door and the agents fight with The Needy, the same creature that was accompaining the Devil to Elza's house.[18]
Four days later, after intercepting the code information from a safe with classified documents about the Relics of Calamity, Kian and the Escribes teleports to the Leone's Mansion and brutally murders every member of the family present there. However, when they tried to leave the place, they are ambushed by Joui Jouki,[19][20] that emerges through the Symbol of the Devil's Pact.[21]
Hours later, Team Vultures arrives in the mansion, finding it completely bloody and with a plenty of dead bodies. After investigating and going downstairs to the safe, they find Marco Leone in the process of transformation into a Blood Zombie, however he was being controlled. The Pact symbol appears in the safe's wall, with the Devil itself coming through it.[5] The team confronts it, with no success, while the entity congratulates them for killing its "son", and saying that the "gift" had been delivered. It offers a second pact to the team, announcing that a war is coming and that when they meet it to their third and last pact alongside its "associate", the war will begin.
One day after, Team Vultures start to investigate The Colosseum, now accompanied by Joui Jouki. Entering the Ordo Calamitas Ruins, they pass through several games of Amphitruo, until they walk into a corridor lit with pink flames, where a door opens, revealing a big room, where the Devil and The Host itself were waiting for them.[22]
With the arrival of the Sect of the Masks, the two entities dialogue with the team about destroying the Knowledge and end the fate that the Masks control, allowing the Calamity to be in the hands of the Marked. However, they are rejected and, seeing the agents allying with The Magistrate, both associates revolt. Before leaving the place through a crack of Blood, the Devil explains that it'll not interfere in the battle against the Host, but claims that the Order is now its enemy, and that it'll kill every one of them.
With the end of The Colosseum war, Kian is kept in a cell made especially for him at the Ordo Realitas Base, being suppressed by the Dark Restriction. There, he gets visited by Henri, who comments about Kian feeling the most pure hatred after a while without feeling something. In a matter of seconds, Henri takes the form of the Devil, and offers a pact to the "First Occultist".[6]
Abilities[]
- The Devil's Hatred: The Devil is able to make its target to feel an extremely paranormal anger and hatred, making it stronger and more powerful in the process.[21][23] This ability is also able to break the link that a member of the Sect of the Masks has with their collective mind, as seen with Joui Jouki.[20]
- Blood on the Surroundings: If it wants, the Devil can cause the environment in which it is to start to gush blood.[5]
- Transport through Blood: The Devil possesses the ability to transport itself from one place to another through cracks or large pools of Blood.[5] This ability extends to the possibility of carrying another being.[24]
- Blood Veins: The Devil can trap people by manipulating the Blood in the veins of the individual itself, forming a kind of chain around them.[25]
- Regeneration: When weak or injured, the Devil can regenerate your body no matter what damage it takes.[26]
- Curse Weapon: The Devil can curse objects with Blood using its own veins, making them more powerful permanently.[27]
- Lord of Blood: As the Relic of Blood wielder, the Devil has the ability to summon any Blood monster of the Other Side that has ever existed, managing to control its physical manifestation if it wants to.[28][3]
- Chop the Mask: The Devil is the only being in Reality able to solve the Enigma of Fear to dizimate The Magistrate, the Relic of Knowledge wielder.[3]
- Pact: The Devil can accept or offer a pact to whomever it wants and, if accepted, it fulfills his part, but this does not prevent it from distorting its result.[9] The Devil’s pact is a bond of obsessive dependence,[3] possessing the ability to possibly drive its victim mad, turning it into an entity-obsessed servant: a Deranged.
Trivia[]
- The initial plan was that all three Relics wielders had a voice effect, however, the modifier that would be used for the Devil was not finished in time, making him the only wielder who Cellbit doesn't use an effect to play.
- The Devil is often linked to the number 666, this being popularly known as the number of the beast. In its Creature Sheet on the Paranormal Order RPG Playbook, its Defense, Health Points, and Attributes values reference the sequence.
