The Sphinx Carrion is a paranormal creature of Death with complement of Knowledge, where its own relationship to Egyptian culture is totally apparent, being a distorted view of the Sphinx creature, but in a Carrion way.

Its first appearance was in the 10th episode of Calamity when summoned to fight the agents during an invasion commanded by Nubi at the Leone's Mansion, along with a group of Lusidii with their appearances referring to Ancient Egypt. The Sphinx was killed by a certain shot of Arthur Cervero with his sniper.

Appearance

This creature has a quadrupedal and skeletal body, but it also seems to be formed from a kind of flesh since it physically has hands and even a tail. Its stomach is surrounded by ribs, which lead to a large neck, possessing a face resembling a sharp-toothed humanoid skull, which has two horns; one on its protruding forehead and another on its chin imitating a beard.

Its huge neck has the shape of a Menes, the Egyptian crowns worn by the Pharaohs, and a kind of necklace made of several skulls, both with purple details and a pair of torn wings reminiscent of bat wings. In addition, it is also possible to see that there is Black Ooze dripping all over your body.

Behaviour

The Sphinx Carrion is summoned through a ritual marked on Nubi’s cane, which has the head of a golden jackal where the ritual is set. Upon being summoned, a huge pool of Black Ooze is formed from the person casting the ritual and the surrounding bodies, from which this creature appears, which begins to attack as many targets as possible.

Despite attacking freely, the creature also has the ability of the original Sphinx, where the sphinx would say an "impossible" puzzle and if the challenger gave the incorrect answer she would devour it. When devoured, the person is taken to its ribs, and the damage caused to the individual, heal the wounds of the sphinx. This person, however, can be removed with the help of someone out of the ribs.

Abilities

• "Scare": At the beginning of the battle, the creature’s presence shakes the mind of the targets, and in case the target fails a presence test it stays stunned by a round.

• Jump: The creature makes a big jump in the air and jumps on as many targets as possible while dealing massive area damage.

• Vomit Ooze: The creature vomits ooze on the target, this ooze then leaves it in the "weakened" status while in contact with the liquid.

• Riddle: The creature gives the target a riddle, where it must give the right answer or is devoured, and when devoured the target can only be freed with external help.

• Stomach: The Sphinx regains the health it inflicted on an enemy within.

Known Riddles

During the fight at Leone's Mansion, using one of its skills, the creature gave a total of three riddles:

First Riddle

I devour beasts, birds, flowers and trees. I destroy the strongest iron and disintegrate the hardest rock, who am I?

Second Riddle

I bring back the dead, I make you cry, I make you laugh and I make you young. I’m born in an instant, but I can last the rest of your life, who am I?

Answer: Memory.

Third Riddle

Answer: Fire.

Trivia

• Both the design and the creature’s abilities were based on the tale of the Sphinx, an ancient Egyptian creature that is known for its great monument: The Great Sphinx of Giza.
• The Sphinx Carrion was initially planned to be in the Playbook add-on, Surviving the Horror, but ended up being replaced by another Death creature that Cellbit wanted to feature.
• The Sphinx Carrion has a theme song: "Sphinx Carrion".
