The Sources are a group of individuals responsible for sustaining Holy Cradle, usually being direct descendants of The Blacksmith, created solely to feed the Holy and sustain the illusory happiness of the townspeople. They are kept in white rooms inside the Cavern of the Infinite Labyrinth, staying there until his death and often going mad. Only the First of the Sources and Kenan Thomas were not descended from a Blacksmith, and The Gatekeeper was the only Source descended from him who was freed. Whenever one of them dies, the Holy ends up making a giant noise, like a siren, and the night comes with everything.

History

Great Archaeological Find

The Escribes, or the Cult of Knowledge, was a group of influential occultists who sought the attainment of the Deconjuration Order, organizing an archaeological expedition led by Dr. Eva van Gloss in search of occultist influence to weaken the veil. Heilag Vagga, a remote island off the northern coast of Europe near Iceland, was his great find, ruins of an ancient civilization that worshiped a mysterious symbol, carved into large buildings and drawn on small tablets throughout the city. This society seemed obsessed with this Spiral Symbol, that's where Eva van Gloss set up her archeological site, so she could study more about these people and this mysterious symbol.

This society prospered and lasted for centuries, but unfortunately, no documentation, records or texts have been found throughout the island, only some military documentation indicating a patrol camp was sent somewhere and signs of destruction made by a volcano near the village that erupted.

The entire Heilag Vagga island didn't seem to fit in with the geological formations in the region, as if something unnatural had altered things there. In addition, its social development was pointed out as extremely accelerated and not compatible with its dates, as if time passed slower or faster than in the rest of the world. After Eva van Gloss reported to the Deconjuration upon her incredible discovery, she determined that she should pursue independent studies to extract any useful information from that mysterious Spiral Symbol.

Initial Tests

After finding the Spiral Symbol in Heilag Vagga, Eva van Gloss began conducting experiments to try to uncover any useful information about the workings of the mysterious pentagram. Various types of experiments were carried out, placing the symbol on plants, animals, dead bodies and, after a while in the tests, living humans.

Effects on the Body

Ingrid Volkomenn, a possible occultist and Eva's close friend, served as a subject in the initial tests to see the reaction of the symbol in a person's body, becoming the first of the Sources to connect and feed the Holy. During the course of the experiment, it became increasingly increasingly restless, having sudden changes in behavior, starting with small crises and ending with attacks of insanity and madness. The destructive power of the symbol over the human mind went far beyond what she expected, and with that, she concluded her investigation and went to contact Eric Jour, to assemble a scientists team in the future, who would become known as The Five Guardians.

Ingrid was liberated after the experiments, presumably because of Agatha Volkomenn, her daughter, who was still at school. During the time she spent in São Paulo with her daughter, she committed more than 7 murders due to her panic attacks, being arrested shortly after having one of these attacks in a public square.

Effects on Environments

On the first day, the symbol was marked on his body and in his cell, and the soil that was previously poor and leached, began to show the development of vegetation and micro-organisms that store nutrients.

On the third day, mini environments that demonstrated a temperate and humid climate were marked with the same symbol, which evolved rapidly compared to common standards. After drilling into the ground, metallic traces were found such as lead, copper, zinc, gold, and some unknown crystals that released a radiation never seen before.

In the last days, the soil was developed, with abundant microorganisms and sufficient geochemical reserves to grow any type of crop. Conditions for obtaining food and mineral resources have been reached.

Conclusion

Direct exposure to the symbol causes extremely accelerated degradation and decay, absorbing as much life energy as it can to feed the Holy. Environments that are exposed indirectly demonstrate an extremely appropriate mutation for life.

Known Sources

To create a Source, an origin of PE, one must expose an individual to the Spiral Symbol to first establish a connection with the Holy One, the powerful entity that Source feed. The most conventional method of creating a Source is to select an individual who has the Blacksmith's blood, the leader of Holy Cradle, and from his birth keep him imprisoned within the Cavern's cells along with the symbol, growing and getting older only with the company of this great god, only further increasing your connection with him.

The Gatekeeper

It was a Source for most of its life, kept locked in one of the empty rooms, just like its other siblings. As he had a very strong relationship with his mother, The Blacksmith, stronger than the other Sources, she taught him everything he needed to know and ended up leaving for the outside world. However, in the time he was trapped, the symbol was already embedded in his mind, and whenever he could, he drew it until he felt relieved and comfortable. This seems to be a common behavior among all other Sources, as its brother, the "Fugitive Source", also did the same on the tree where he lived. After being integrated into the community by his mother, he received the name of "The Gatekeeper", and was in charge of warning in case there was an approach of ignarus in the city and of receiving them at the gate.

Because he felt that most of his life was a lie, he developed an intrinsic hatred of everything related to the city and his father, The Blacksmith, but he noticed that, due to the influence of the black crystal on the Lusidii, their only hope for freeing their brothers would have to come from outside. So, when he saw the investigators approaching the gate, in addition to knowing the dread that he remembers carrying in his father, he began to make bonds with them to free all the Lusidii from that hell once and for all. After the end of the hard fight against The Miner, he is confronted by the group about the murders that took place in the village, assuming that he really killed the The Helper and The Collector, summarizing the relationship between the village with the parasite and revealing his goal to destroy it all.

In his last hours of life, he helps the group to leave the Cavern and, after a great discussion, decides to sacrifice himself so that the ignarii ones can reach the Infinite Labyrinth, giving himself up and being executed in a public square, by his own father. In honor of him, the group of investigators called themselves Team H, as they were his last remaining hope.

Fugitive Source

Upon arriving at the city farm to investigate the case of the cows that were coldly murdered by blows to the head, the agents spend the whole day arranging a plan to find and capture the person responsible. When talking to The Farmer, she states that this would be the third cow to die in this way, and that this had never happened before. The first would have been killed a few months ago, happening along with the disappearance of some chickens. The animals were never attacked by the monstrous creatures of the night, making the case even more mysterious.

The group, when night comes, tie a cow named "Jennifer" outside the barn, while they snoop around and wait for the killer to fall into the trap, which it does. As they chase the creature through the forest on the side of the plantations, they come to an open clearing with a large hollow tree, which, when looking inside, has the entire interior carved with that same symbol, marked dozens of times. As they try to dig further into the large trunk, a small fight ensues, and after their extremely disturbing death, a sound is heard, night comes extremely quickly and various creatures appear, even angrier than they were before. In the episode 13 “The Cave”, it is revealed that this creature was one of the Gatekeeper's brothers.

When arriving at the large Cave with multiple cells, they decide to open the first of them, where they find an old man with a huge beard and gray hair, who reveals himself to be Kenan Thomas, a Team Kelvin's member, who was kept held hostage by his old friend Miguel Cariad, who betrayed the team and killed Mariana Larona, the other member. He spent 36 years of his life in that cell, and had all his energy used to feed the Holy.

After they free him, Kenan tells him about a backpack with explosives he had hidden before he was arrested, and with that, Team H allies with him and they begin a plan to destroy everything in the city. After recovering the explosives, they head towards the city center to end this whole nightmare, arriving at the Parasite.

In the middle of this mission, the Blacksmith ends up arriving at the place and tries to interrupt the group, being killed shortly afterwards by the agents. Suddenly, the Black Ooze begins to move violently, and a good part of it goes towards the corpse of the leader of the city, who begins to turn into a creature never seen before, The God of Death.

After losing a lot of sanity during the battle, Kenan, already gone mad, removes the bombs from the place he had planted and starts jumping towards the one who had once been his best friend, to try to activate the explosives and kill everyone and himself. However, the agent ends up getting shot by Cesar Cohen in the head before blowing up everyone in the room.

Insane Source

When opening the cell next to Kenan Thomas's door, they enter an identical room, but now, with a gray figure, in his early 20s with a beard and long black hair, with a band running across one eye. He was curled up near a hole in the ground, asleep. As soon as he notices the open door and the presence of the group there, he starts covering his eyes and screams madly inside the hall.

After calming down and seeing a whole new universe open up in front of his eyes, he leaves the room and starts running madly looking for an exit, screaming the same way he had done before, but he is knocked out by Kenan and is taken back to the cell. This Source looked much like the Source in the forest.

Elderly Source

When opening another cell, the group found another Source, dark gray-skinned, in his 80s, who seems to be in his last days of life, having a very thin, weak and wrinkled form, with practically all of his Potential Energy delivered to the entity. As soon as the door opens and he spots the group, he starts backing up and gradually leans against the wall with the symbol, first his palm, then his other hand and arms, then his head.

Inert Source

An enigmatic Source with light gray skin and voluminous white hair, appearing to be an elderly man over 50 years old, with a band running across both of his eyes, resembling eyeglasses. He just followed whoever entered his cell with a serene look, not doing anything, much less moving properly. The emptiness of his gaze and the completely different reaction of the others caused fear and discomfort for those who were being watched by him.

Brown Source

This Source had light brown hair in addition to his dark gray skin. He had the same reaction as the second seen, seeing the opportunity to break free, attacking the group and trying to escape as quickly as possible, but failing.

Incomplete Source

Thiago Fritz volunteered to go to Mr. Getúlio to interrogate him, but when he gets there, he ends up being held hostage by a creature, the Aracnasite, who kidnapped him and dragged him into the middle of the forest, and there, used his unconscious body as a source of PE, making it grow, in addition to gaining enormous strength and resistance. In the meantime inside the spider, Thiago ends up going into a trance to become a Source, but by the sacrifice bestowed by Cristopher Cohen, this process is not done completely, making him an "incomplete Source", which still has connection with the Holy, but not so much.

After the fight against The Miner, an argument with The Gatekeeper takes place, with him saying that to get to the center of the Infinite Labyrinth it would be necessary for someone to mark the symbol on the body. Thiago started to argue with him, and with that, he discovered that he was already connected with an entity all along. When he tries to turn Lusidii, his skin starts to turn gray, and he discovers that he was one all along. Just seeing another big white background, he decides to guide the group through the labyrinth, and, as a final sacrifice, throws himself into the God of Death and is trapped in his hands for more than 50 years, waiting for the right moment to press the button. detonator and put an end to that suffering.

• Kenan Thomas was responsible for releasing the Fugitive Source that attacked the Holy Cradle farm for months, since, due to The Blacksmith's distraction, he ended up leaving the room and opened one of the doors.
