Me Alien. Voytek.

Still Me is the third episode of Signals from the Other Side. It aired on November 12, 2022.

Synopsis[]

The Five face a new Alien in their adventure to find Morato. However, more of these creatures enter the group’s path, and time brings back memories of an old friend.

Summary[]

The Five made the perfect ambush. The smoke grenade inside the Broadcast Station begins to expand within the site. They prepare and when they can, advance against the door, opening it fully. The smoke leaves the room, coming straight out to a specific area, but nothing is inside. Chico warns the friends that Fummu hides really well, entering the station with Lírio. But this is the moment that Dara, Guizo and Xande realize: a kind of noise as if something was going to explode next to them. And suddenly, the generator they had brought with them explodes, in a kind of green flame, hitting everyone except Xande. The other four begin to extinguish the flames around their bodies, while the camouflaged, gray, humanoid form, with a huge gray head and two huge green eyes, appears as the smoke from the explosion dissipates.

Xande analyzes the creature, identifying that it is possibly from Energy or Knowledge. The creature uses its invisibility again, running towards Xande and touching its hand against his arm, causing Xande’s arm to burn with an acid. But at the same time, the skater uses his Noise Screen and softens almost the damage completely. The creature also gathers some of its smoke into a huge green flame and spears it against Dara, who manages to dodge. Chico further analyzes the creature, realizing that it is much faster, immune to fire and that most likely it is of Energy, while Dara remembers that there is a lighter fluid in the cabinet inside the station, warning Chico about. Xande fails to hit the creature and Lírio advances on it, grabbing it and trying to get away from an imminent explosion of something, but losing sight of Fummu by its camouflage. Guizo multiplies himself in five, and the creature attacks Lírio, hitting him with one blow and also with its green flame. Chico throws a new smoke grenade towards Lírio, which expands the smoke and reveals the creature again, and Xande curses his bat with Knowledge, attacking Fummu with Lírio, that throws himself on the wall along with the creature. Guizo invades the creature's mind, repeating the phrase "The Five" in its head and disturbing it like there’s no tomorrow and stunning it while Xande orders it to suffer, causing immense damage and spurting more green blood and disconnecting the hose from its mouth. Lírio begins to punch its head into the wall, and Chico mocks the creature no longer able to teleport, while Guizo once again invades its mind and simulates as if the creature was the size of an ant and stepping on it with his clones. Suddenly, the creature disappears from the group’s view, and Guizo and Chico notice it entering the station again and throwing the lighter fluid over everyone. Dara is saved by being out of reach and Xande dodges, making a maneuver with his skateboard and entering again in place, using once again his ritual on the creature and killing it with his bat. The Fummu falls, dead on the floor, while Xande enjoys the moment with a twinkle in his eyes. However, the scene is not over, and his other friends are still on fire thanks to the lighter. Lírio feels the agonizing pain of the burns and stands on the brink of death, being stabilized by Xande and recovered by Dara.

As the group celebrates the victory, Guizo notices a green light in the background, towards the camp. He targets his camera to be able to record, and she begins to have bizarre interference, with various symbols appearing, while recording dozens of silhouettes of people in suits and hats taking other silhouettes and putting them in the van. One, two, three, five, ten, twenty people, something impossible to fit in a van. Guizo also notices Eriberto, Ludismila and Edimeia being thrown into the van, and then his camera can no longer capture anything. He looks with his eye and sees nothing else either. He warns the group about what he saw and then they head to the camp to investigate. They realize that there are no signs of tire from the said van, wondering if it really was a van or even the alien ship. Xande sees four tire marks on the ground, stamped with symbols similar to those the group had seen, and also commenting with Guizo about the Fummu being really cool. While investigating the place, Guizo finds a heap of herbs, and Chico, by identifying being herbs of the plant Cannabis, takes them all, being rebuked by Lírio. Dara, bored, notices a light across the lake, flashing three times fast, flashing three times slow and flashing three times fast again. With her knowledge, she knows there’s someone blinking SOS in Morse code, and across the house is the home of the Magal Benza family. Guizo tries to zoom in with his camera in the house and realizes that the light comes from the second floor, imagining it to be Don asking for help. Before returning there, they decide to investigate one of the station’s computers using the generator they had brought, while Dara stays in the van. Chico analyzes some notes of the transmission tower system, discovering that only one station could transmit the complete signal to the TV: the local TV, TV Varminho. He also discovers another strange thing: all other channels that should broadcast the other stations only broadcast TV Varminho. Suddenly, a kind of broadcast interference map appears on the computer screen, from a server connected to an external machine, being the ID of Morato. The map shows a triangulation in the lake area, representing the transmission tower, the house in the Zucchini Farm and another point. Chico also realizes that the tower is working again with this, and that now they can know more things.

While the rest of the group investigates, Dara turns on the van’s radio to listen to anything, hearing only a noise that gets louder and repeats. She begins to feel strange and begins to hear the signals. Someone communicating with her. More than that: she wonders if she’s ever realized that she’s different. She’s been very effective. They’re seeing it. That’s good. She continues to listen to the radio, closing her eyes and imagining the blinking symbols in her mind. She begins to understand. She knows where they have to go. She knows where they came from. She knows it’s more important than they have. They’ve already chosen. Out of nowhere, Xande goes back to the van and sees this situation, running to turn off the radio and get Dara out of the trance, who complains because she was very curious about what was happening. She tries to hide about what she felt, but leaves Xande hurt asking him not to fill her bag. Dara puts songs back to play, while the rest of the group arrives, with Guizo rushing after hearing one of Ahlevo’s hits. The group talk about what they discovered at the station, and then quickly decide to return to the farm to rescue Don.

Upon arriving at the farm gate, the group notices something strange: the grave where they had buried the body of Adágio is open. They also notice that all the lights in the house are turned off, except for one very faint on the first floor. It’s 3:33 in the morning, and Xande starts walking towards the house. He sneaks out the balcony and looks out through the window Alberta and Luan seeing something on the TV, with wide eyes and a very strange expression. Xande throws himself out the window without bumping into anything and realizes that on TV, the same noise with the same strange symbols is passing by. When he tries to hang up, someone calls him from behind. As he turns around, he sees Don crouching on the stairs, asking him not to turn off the TV and calling him to the second floor. The rest of the group enter through the front door, and Dara and Chico go up on the second floor, while Lírio and Guizo stay below witnessing something unimaginable: Adágio, standing in front of them. There is something very wrong with him, who behaves very strangely, with a correct posture and a speech all paused. He greets the two and asks them to stay in the room, to watch TV. Lírio asks to go upstairs, but Adágio says he cannot allow it. Meanwhile, the three who went to the second floor enter Don’s room, which he kept Kiko with him. The young boy explains that Morato had said something like this could happen, and that if they turned off the television, his relativates would become more aggressive. He also mentions a black van arriving at the door of the house and Adágio leaving it; that Morato had said he had left several hidden messages on film tapes; that every night, his family members left their rooms during the night to watch TV. Don also hands Morato’s ID card to the group, which reminds them that this card should be inserted into the tree house computer. Xande begins to descend through the window to assist Lírio and Guizo on the outside, who were almost being forced by Adágio to look at the TV. Lírio even ends up throwing water from his cup in the farmer’s face, causing an uncomfortable scene between the three. The two, after much effort, manage to get out of the house to reorganize, meeting Xande halfway. Dara and Chico also go down the window, and the group begins to talk to Don from below, being interrupted abruptly by Adáio opening the window below, facing them without rest. Xande and Guizo begin to leave, and Dara follows them, but upon realizing that Adágio begins to stare at her. Chico tries to take the farmer’s attention along with Don, and makes him leave the kitchen. Soon, the group begins to decide their next steps, going to the tree house.

There, Chico begins to use the computer, finding notes on the tapes of the films that Morato placed his messages and his time stamps: "Late Encounter of the Fifth Kind - 01:33:15", "The 8th Guest - 00:34:25", "The Object - 00:41:43" and "Moons' Voyage - 00:06:05". Guizo then decides to go back to the house to be able to get the tapes, but the group gets stuck because of Don’s well-being. They then decide to link Dara and Guizo's minds so they can communicate in the meantime, and then Guizo and Lírio come down from the tree house to go back to the family home. Guizo analyzes the house, thinking of a way to enter without being seen, and doing the same as Xande, jumps the window of the room to enter. On the side of the TV he finds the film tape The Object. Going up on the second floor, he finds Adágio knocking on Don’s bedroom door, and realizing the danger, he sets up a strategy so that Lírio can distract the man while he investigates. Lírio walks through the kitchen and bathroom on the first floor looking for something to draw attention to, taking the same glass as before and throwing it on the floor. The noise of the glass breaking causes Adágio to go downstairs and talk to him. Adágio points to the television, and by intuition, Lírio looks in the direction, but almost looking directly at the TV. Meanwhile, Guizo investigates the family’s children’s rooms, taking the films Late Encounter of the Fifth Kind and Moons' Voyage . When asking where The 8th Guest might be, Don realizes that Luan had taken the tape, repudiating it because it's his favorite film. He hands the tapes to Guizo, who warns the group.

Meanwhile, there in the tree house, Chico sees the computer screen change again, changing the whole system to just a simple terminal. A message with some symbols of the Aliens appears, and as he flips through Morato’s guide, Chico begins to talk to the terminal by translating the symbols with one of the stored alphabets. Something makes him feel that he should do this conversation alone in the room, asking Dara and Xande to leave. The two then descend from the tree house to assist Lírio and Guizo, who continued to have problems with Adágio. While trying to get out of the house by jumping out the window, Lírio is caught by the farmer’s superhuman strength, which pulls him in and begins to choke him. Guizo quickly descends and tries to break the situation, being caught in place and starting to have his head turned by Adágio to the TV. Lírio grabs the farmer by the neck and starts punching him into the ground, totally destroying him. Adágio’s body begins to change, turning into a grotesque green skin, with green blood, until he can no longer move. Dara and Xande arrive on time and talk a little with Lírio and Guizo about the kind of aliens that could be in the tree house, assimilating to a Memoflygian. The four then return to the tree house to help Chico.

Returning to Chico, he was talking to the terminal, seeing that the terminal knew who he was, that they had taken him, that he had become an Alien, that he is Voytek and that his body still exists. The terminal starts repeatedly sending the message "Still Me", and Chico continues to talk, thinking of a way to win the trust of the Memoflygian. For a moment, Lírio notices someone climbing into the treehouse, coming across Voytek himself, smiling at him. Voytek walks to the side, causing Lírio to lose sight of him, and Dara warns her companion that everything is just a hallucination of the Memoflygian. The whole group remembers the fateful day when Voytek disobeyed the order back from Morato and in the middle of the sewer, was torn apart by several creatures, rethinking that maybe if they had stopped Voytek, if they had listened to Morato instead of helping Voytek, maybe nothing could have happened, and that exclusively the fault was from Guizo and Chico. However, they had never found traces of the friend’s body. They had never seen him die in fact, only they had seen him lose some limbs of the body. No sign of creature or body... just his dog tag. Chico continues to talk to the terminal, which says things about the origin, transmission and connection, and still claiming to be Voytek. Chico then asks everyone to leave the tree house and go to the van, so that he is completely alone. Reluctant, the four descend, going straight to the van, cheering for the good of the little one.

Chico, completely alone, hears the footsteps. He sees his friend at the door, and the terminal sends another message "Still Me". Voytek walks one step further, looking at Chico, and sending messages that communication needs to be maintained at the terminal. Chico sends a message to Voytek to show his true form, and the companion leaves Chico’s field of vision, going back. Following him, Chico sees a floating shape, with elongated arms and legs, transparent skin and its face full of green eyes as if it had a thin layer covering its face. The Memoflygian continues sending "Still Me" at the terminal, approaching Chico, who asks it to wait. However, it is too late. The creature’s fingers enter inside Chico’s head, invading his mind and beginning his process of madness.
