GM[1]
Parasite is the second episode of Signals from the Other Side. It aired on November 5, 2022.
Synopsis[]
The Five face off against their first Alien at the Zucchini Farm. Their investigations range from the reclusive son of the Magal Benza family to the trio of a camp across the lake, which brings interesting information to solve their problems.
Summary[]
In a failed attempt to remove the Interfloral parasite from the body of Adágio, The Five now has the mission of defeating the creature that emerged from the farmer's body. It lets out a disconcerting scream that echoes in Lírio's mind, while Chico looks around and asks them to bring the creature towards him. He sets a mine on the ground, while Dara pulls out her submachine gun.
Xande uses his Chaotic Polarization on Lírio's hammer, throwing it at his companion, who catches it without difficulty. The two start running, along with Guizo, who undoes his beard upon seeing the traumatic scene. The creature begins to chase them, hitting Lírio and screaming at Guizo, Xande uses another ritual against the creature, causing enormous damage to it, and Lírio hits it with his hammer in a lateral movement. Continuing to run, Guizo throws a handful of ashes at Xande, performing his Deadly Speed Ritual on the skateboarder, who, upon seeing that he would not escape the creature's attack, uses another ritual to take less damage. The creature lets out another scream, which doesn't affect Xande because he is listening to music at full volume. He curses his club with Blood and strikes the Interfloral, who tries to block, but fails. He runs, passing through the mine and calling out to the creature, but being dragged by Lírio so as not to be caught in the blast area. Everyone stays away and sees Chico press the mine button, causing a large explosion that ends up killing the creature.
Everyone approaches the body and begins to argue about what to do with the explosion made on the farm. Chico gets closer to the body and is almost caught by the creature, which was still alive, trying to cling to his face. It throws herself in the middle of everyone, and, noticing the slowest of the group, jumps on top of Guizo, grabbing his face. It places one of its tentacles on the boy's throat, who begins to see a vision of a corridor with greenish lights, a door with glowing spheres and infected cables around it. He understands the symbol. He understands the signal. It's time to seek knowledge. They came from the Other Si- and he suddenly comes out of this vision, with Xande grabbing the creature and throwing it to the ground. The creature tries to escape, dodging Lirio's hammer and hiding back in Adágio's body.
Meanwhile, in the background, Alberta runs towards it, like a bull, as the five try to hide her husband's body. Suddenly, the creature lifts Adágio's body and runs towards the cornfield. Lírio and Xande begin to follow it, and Xande uses another ritual on it, almost finishing it. It arrives in one of the areas with crop circles only to undergo yet another skater ritual and be completely melted. Returning to the scene with Alberta, Guizo, disguised as Adágio with his ritual, tries to distract the woman along with Chico and Dara, being successful and receiving a kiss from the woman, something that leaves him in shock. On the way back, Lírio and Xande talk a little, apologizing for rushing in the plan and for having mentioned Voytek previously. The group meets again, discussing what to do with the body and ultimately deciding to take it to the van.
Night falls, and they begin to investigate Adágio's body, realizing that he was already dead inside, and what kept him alive was the parasite, also analyzing the types of parasites of the Aliens and discussing what they'll do the next day. While they argue, Lírio notices a concentration of fire next to the lake, so the group begins to surround the house, noticing that the lights are still on and stopping at the entrance to the farm, hiding Adágio's body there. They return and see Alberta and Luan having dinner, not noticing anyone else.
Soon after, Luan approaches them, asking if they saw his father and inviting them to eat boiled corn. Chico and Dara talk a little after noticing the abnormalities with the animals, while Luan finds Guizo without a beard strange. He explains that the group can call Donisvaldo for dinner, but advises them to call him Don. Guizo and Xande go up to the second floor, and Guizo explains the feeling he had when being grabbed by the creature. They see two doors, one with "DO NOT ENTER" signs. When knocking on the door, the two hear Kiko barking and someone asking the dog to be quiet. Don approaches the door, and says he saw what the group did and that he needs to see the team's ID cards. Don slides out a handmade ID card, similar to the ones of The Five, with his information and photo. He opens the door, revealing a teenager wearing a hoodie, dark eye makeup, and a room with several posters of bands from the time. He says he knows Morato, and asks for the group's collaboration to help him.
He asks them both to go in and takes a film tape, inserting it into his TV. The film "Late Encounter of the Fifth Kind", when sped up to 01:33:15, features a recording of Morato, talking about the people of the lake and that two of these people are related to a case about Aliens years ago. He says that he finally found a lexical logic to understand the crop circles, that the people of the lake could know something important, and about a broadcasting station. Don also points to his desk, which contains three investigation files for three missing people, and realizing that he shouldn't have let the two into his room, he tells them to leave.
Meanwhile, Alberta talks about what is happening to her cow, saying that her milk is coming out green and that she is no longer moving. Chico and Dara pretend to know that it could be an infection while Lírio plays with Kiko. Xande and Guizo come back and say that Don didn't want anything to eat, but that he's a good boy. They talk a little and Luan says they can look in his room to look for film tapes. Xande and Lírio go in there and see a simple room, with some shirts scattered around, a poster on the wall and some comics on the table. They also see a box next to the bed, and opening it, they find several VHS tapes stored there, in addition to also seeing several yellow shirts, blue shorts and two straw hats in the wardrobe. They leave and the group gets together, talking some more and then leaving the house to go back to the van. Dara feels a little sad about not saving Adágio, and the group consoles her. Guizo shows the investigation files to the group, and Xande explains that Don knew Morato and knows about the case. The five soon decide to go and analyze the cow in the corral.
Along the way, Chico and Dara talk about the types of Aliens they could have in the cow. They enter the corral and head towards a brown cow, which remains static, without reacting to anything. After a while arguing about it, Guizo takes the knife and cuts part of the cow, and the green liquid characteristic of the Aliens comes out of it, as well as many larvae. They realize that inside the cow there was nothing but its bones and the green goo; she was already dead. Some of the group realize that the parasite first started with the cow, laid its eggs and then parasitized Adágio, so they empty the cow and bury it in a corner of the farm. The group then decides to head to the concentration of fire next to the lake, believing it to be a campfire.
During the journey, Chico and Dara listen to their favorite songs by the band The Pression, and Guizo uses his ritual to disguise himself. A man with a car in the middle of the road challenges the group to a race in exchange for Dara's phone number, and the challenge is accepted. He starts off very well, but is overtaken by the Five's van at the end. They then arrive on the other side of the lake, along a dirt road. Everyone starts to get a strange feeling, hearing a specific sound in their minds and on the radio, and seeing that something was watching them, passing through the clouds. They discuss it a little and some time later they arrive near the bonfire.
Guizo, disguised, and Dara approach there, hearing guitar sounds around them. They see three people around, with very different clothes and beads, probably altered by illicit substances. They introduce themselves as Ludismila, Eriberto and Edimeia, being the second the first's boyfriend and the last the first's aunt. The three talk about the aliens and talk about their family members having already been taken by them, they also say they want to be taken. They seem to be quite fanatical about these matters, with their tents full of peace symbols and UFOs. Dara and Guizo claim to need to get something from their van, quickly returning to meet up with the group again.
Soon after, everyone approaches the bonfire to continue talking about the subject. Edimeia tells the story that her husband, Nadiel Freitas, was abducted two years ago, and that he worked at a radio station. It shows a map of Minas Gerais, with several circles marked as abduction locations, most being in Varminho. Eriberto takes Lírio and Chico to a small room at the back so the two can use the bathroom, while the others continue talking, the three return and the group begins to explore the place better. Dara notices that the smell of the place was much more like strong sulfur, warning everyone. They analyze the Alien's guide again, assimilating the conditions with two types of parasite: Rasthropod and Fummu.
The group also notices an apparently abandoned station, exploring it together, and noticing the strong smell again, as well as several thrown things and a symbol spray-painted on the wall. Xande identifies the symbol as the same as that of the TV station, also seeing that the station's television and radio were destroyed. Guizo finds traces of a completely strange fingerprint, and, suddenly, Chico's alarm goes off. It's 1:30 am, 30 minutes until 2 am. Xande also notices a table with a computer, seeing an audio tape with the number 01. He sees several reports with graphs of TV signals, realizing that the radio station must receive signals from several stations, but most of them had interference, with only one sending the signals completely: the symbol emitter. Guizo searches under the mattress and finds some kind of charred pistol.
Chico and Lírio leave the place, returning to the camp and talking about the need for a generator for Eriberto. They receive a generator, but before that, they continue to search the camp's item table, noticing some photos taken that were somehow corrupted. Meanwhile, at the station, Dara finds newspaper clippings, saying that the broadcaster TV Varminho was closed due to leaked documents saying that it was a front company for military operations.
Lírio and Chico arrive and, upon seeing the completely strange fingerprint, assimilate the conditions for the Fummu parasite. They play one of the audio tapes, which is in English. Chico tries to translate it, and he hears someone who was there using the station, but felt that he was not alone and was being watched. Playing the other tape, they hear the person talk about every time he woke up, he felt a breeze, and that he felt it everywhere, as well as bringing the pistol from his sweet home. Playing the third tape, the person in the audio is startled to realize that he saw something passing by the window, and is shocked to see that something approaching.
The group then tries to organize itself to see what to do against the parasite. They decide to put out the campfire and return to the station, ready for a possible confrontation with the creature. Some time passes, and they decide it might be best to leave the place. They then leave and, now with a plan, throw a smoke grenade inside, closing the door shortly afterwards. After the grenade takes effect, they return to the station, opening the door with all their might.
