Shanyqua

Shanyqua da Silva was one of the protagonists of the Paranormal Order series, present in Gruesome Christmas.

Shanyqua, after family complications, seeking not to spend Christmas alone, decides to meet up with some old school colleagues in the Goodwill Moon's Camp.

While walking through the dark night, Shanyqua fell into one of the bear traps set by the Night Mutilator, and realizing that she was surrounded, both by the Mutilator himself and Jae, she decided to stay behind and sacrifice herself so that her friends could escape, being killed by both killers brutally.

Appearance

Shanyqua was a young black woman, brown eyes and approximately 4'9" feet tall. She had long brown braids and wore a red beret with white details. In addition, she wore a green cropped blouse with long sleeves and gray wide pants with chains hanging from the waist. On the arms, she wore a variety of gold bracelets, with different thicknesses and designs.

Personality

Shanyqua was a very open, conversational and humorous person most of the time, but a little hysterical and irreverent towards others, since her priority was always herself. Shanyqua was a natural and constant leader of the group, putting things in order and cherishing discussions, even those she had started. She tended to be extremely realistic, perceptive and quick in perceiving facts that others seemed not to see, as when she came to the conclusion that there was something wrong in the camp, minutes after she and her colleagues arrived at the site.

Biography

Past

Shanyqua was marked by a difficult childhood. When she was 3 years old, her parents died after suffering a car accident, with her grandmother taking over her custody. Since then, her grandmother has worked hard as a maid to be able to take good care of her granddaughter, but she lost her job when she discovered that she had a disease, making her resort in messing with illegal activities, such as the "Animal Game", to take care of Shanyqua, having complications with the police that resulted in her arrest later.

After the arrest of her grandmother, Shanyqua had to fend for herself, not getting any ordinary job and having to engage in various criminal activities to manage to survive. Over time, fearing for her safety, Shanyqua decided to retire from this life, getting a job as a supermarket attendant by a friend and finally starting to have a quiet and stable life outside of crime.

At least until the end of 2022, when, facing the challenge of spending Christmas alone once again, Shanyqua decided to meet up with some former high school colleagues she hadn’t seen in years, setting, together, a meeting in the Goodwill Moon's Camp, where new possibilities and memories awaited to be built.

Gruesome Christmas

In the late afternoon of December 24, 2022, crammed into a small blue car on a mountainous road in the Paraná region, the six young people arrive in the Goodwill Moon's Camp. Shanyqua, who was driving, is the first to get out of the car, a little distressed and feeling that there was something wrong because it was a camp. Right after her, comes Ricardo, that carries all the bags; Jorel, with one of his arms broken; Nathalia, all pompous and elegant; Lila, feeling the natural air of the place; and Leandro, that honestly, didn’t want to be there.

After some discussion, Shanyqua and the rest of the group head to a cabin near where they parked. When they open the door of the cabin, they see a huge room with partitions of living room, bedrooms and a fireplace. During this time, Shanyqua constantly felt that it wasn't a good idea to be there, complaining and talking to the group to turn around and leave the camp. However, she still remained with them.

After some conversations and the decision to go to a better place, they return to the car and walk a little more, reaching a huge house called Juno House. Upon arrival, they open the house, revealing a huge space with several religious paintings, many with the face of Jesus Christ, Christmas decorations and rustic rooms. While they search the house to find out what it has there, Shanyqua finds a newspaper called "The Inquisitor", from 1994, reporting the disappearance of a student named Regiane George.

The six gather in the kitchen, having the inconveniences of the fallen refrigerator, the lack of cell phone signal, among other problems. After a while, everyone gathers in the kitchen to get something to eat and can start immediately the Secret Santa they had organized, until suddenly, something begins to scratch the back door. Ricardo knocks on the door back, and the scratches start getting faster, stronger. He claps and asks whatever was scratching to leave, and then they stop. Among cries and despair, especially of Shanyqua, Leandro decides to open the door, and to his surprise, appears a small dog with a collar. Ricardo sees in the collar that his name is Joto, and so they let the puppy pass, who enters the house and begins to scratch the stove, noticing some snacks to eat.

The six gather to eat panettone and turkey breast, and after that, Ricardo takes several selfies of the group to then definitely start the Secret Santa in the living room. Shanyqua ended up receiving a dancing cactus from Ricardo, and then she gifted Lila with the cover of the album of the best hits by Tanysha Swift, shiny stickers, a purple top, a Juliet glasses and discount coupons to make braids. After the end of the game, everyone begins to feel drowsy and begin to get ready for sleep.

Ricardo and Leandro go out to the other cabin to get a last mattress they needed, leaving Shanyqua and the others behind. At that time, the four who remained decided to play a little Ouija board, with Shanyqua a little calmer and saying that maybe she had thought a lot about the terrible things that usually happen in horror movies and that nothing bad would happen. However, little time passes and Ricardo and Leandro return, saying that there was a serial killer approaching the house. And when they least expect it, the Night Mutilator enters the house.

The group tries to hide from the killer, with Shanyqua trying to find something that could serve as a weapon. At the same time, Leandro opens the back door of the kitchen, and at the same time, Joto, in the lap of Lila, begins to get agitated, being calmed soon after by Shanyqua. The little dog runs across the room, distracting the Mutilator, allowing Leandro, Lila and Shanyqua to leave through the back door, while Ricardo joined Jorel and Nathalia in the living room. Later, after seeing the killer taking an unconscious Ricardo out of the house, Leandro asks for Lila and Shanyqua to stay in the house, while he starts going after the Mutilator, stealthily.

The four who stayed in the house go back to investigate the place. Shanyqua notices the door of an attic opening and closing, and as she tries to open it together with Lila and Nathalia, they notice that the door is locked, and that it opens up. Then they go to a last room that they hadn't opened the door, a gaming room, where they find a photo album and a video camera. When they browse through the photos in the album, they see only pictures that always had the presence of the full moon. But a little later, all the attention is turned to Jorel, who begins to feel strange. He keeps watching the video on camera, and he starts questioning the group about what makes them put trust in someone. Jorel then reveals: the note he was holding was his brother’s. And he had never rented this camp. Shanyqua then realizes: in fact Jorel is familiar to her. He was the lead actor of a movie she had watched. And now, because of him, she was in the middle of that macabre situation. It is then that Jorel reveals: he came to this camp in search of his brother, who had not given any sign of life for three days. The group conflicts over Jorel’s decisions with the rest of the group, especially Shanyqua, who had no relationship with the boy and was furious that it happened. Even so, she goes with the other three to try to find Jorel’s brother.

They decide to go out looking for Leandro and Ricardo. They start climbing a hill, finding a kind of camp with a tombstone. On the way, they even manage to dodge a bear trap. Upon arriving at the camp, they head to the tombstone, marked with the name of Alice Lucina, with a symbol above the name. Lila understands that this symbol is the result of a sacrifice of Blood when talking to the group. And then, she feels a shiver. Looking at the entrance to the camp, she sees the silhouette of the Mutilator, illuminated by the light of the moon. She starts running, warning the rest of the people, being followed by Jorel, Nathalia and Shanyqua. Despite this, they realize that there is almost no way out against him but to jump off the cliff. Shanyqua takes the rosary, which Leandro had given her, and thinking that it would save her, begins to pray as she runs after Lila. But by despair and focus on the prayer, she stumbles and falls to the ground. Lila, driven by one of the songs of Tanysha Swift in her head, tries desperately to run, passing the killer’s side. However, she doesn't notice a bear trap on the ground, stepping on it and closing in her leg. Jorel and Shanyqua shoot and run away from the Mutilator, while Nathalia returns to help Lila, causing both of them to become the focus of the killer’s attention.

Leaving the other two behind, Jorel and Shanyqua arrive at a fork, noticing a large chest with a metal lock. They return to the mansion, entering through the back door, and then, they hear some knocking sounds on the second floor, specifically in the attic. Ricardo arrives at the house after leaving the pier near the lake, meeting with Joto in the middle of the way. The three gather, and Jorel notices someone talking from the other side. He hears more voices, a rattle of keys, and asks for someone to open the door. The door of the trapdoor opens and the three meet Breno, Melissa and Jorge, Jorel's brother, that were stuck by meat hooks in the attic for the last three days. They meet in the attic, with Jorel and Jorge starting to argue about why they were there, with Shanyqua and Melissa coming into conflict as well.

The six begin to discuss about the information that each trio had with them, about the history of Alice Lucina, the rituals she and her husband did, the tomb previously dug by Jorge, among other matters. Despite this, everyone knows that the first goal is to get out of that attic. Through a window, the six leave there, almost falling down because of the unstable ladder. So they start walking around the camp, drenched by rain and led by Shanyqua. The group notices the old chest that Jorel and Shanyqua had noticed, but when the girl tries to open it, she doesn't notice a bear trap placed right in front of her, trapping her foot and immobilizing her. The rest of the group mobilizes to get her out, while Breno opens the chest with one of the keys from the dressing, revealing some bizarre items, such as a revolver, the same mask that Melissa had found before, two grenades and a red lock with several symbols. However, while the group tries to help her, they don't notice the silence. The sound of the request for silence. Coming as a shadow, the figure passes through everyone, appearing behind Shanyqua and stabbing her in the back. At the same time, on the other side, the Night Mutilator cornered them. The survivors run, leaving behind only Shanyqua, trapped in the bear trap, and Ricardo, who wanted to help the girl.

Shanyqua asks Ricardo to be left behind, thus attracting the attention of the assassins and preventing them from going after the other survivors. She hands a picture of herself and her parents to the basketball player, who runs away. Jae and the Mutilator approaches. Jae asks for silence, while Aguiar lifts Shanyqua by the neck with one hand. The killer takes their knife and slashes Shanyqua, marking a large X in her body.

Abilities

Celestial Map: As long as Shanyqua can see the sky, she always knows the directions of the cardinal points and never gets lost in places that she has visited at least once. When making a Survival test, she can spend 2 Determination Points to roll again and choose the best of the two results. In addition, during interlude scenes, she considers poor sleeping conditions as normal.

Effort: When taking a skill test, Shanyqua can spend 1 DP to get +2 on that test.

Tough: Shanyqua receives +4 HP.
