No matter how hard I try... I dropped from Master to Diamond and I can't go up anymore. I think you'd laugh at this one.

Samuel Norte[3]

Samuel Norte is a secondary character, present in Deconjuration, Calamity and Enigma of Fear. He is a hacker and agent of Ordo Realitas, forming the Order Research Team together with Kaiser and Letícia Mantra.

Samuel appears in the 1st episode of Deconjuration[4] welcoming the newcomer Beatrice Portinari, and shortly after, he turns to continue watching a video. It is also known that, together with Johnny Tabasco and Rubens Naluti, Samuel researched information about the entity known as The Host, a sadistic entity that kidnapped people for its games.[5]

Samuel is a playable character in Enigma of Fear, assisting Mia and Lupi on her adventure.[6]

Appearance[]

Deconjuration and Enigma of Fear[]

Samuel is a young-adult black man in his 20s to 30s, with long dark hair tied back with a hairband, dark brown eyes, a light beard, and a scar on his right eyebrow. He wears a green t-shirt with a "U" neckline, black sweatpants, blue flip-flops, and grayish headphones on his ears emitting a greenish glow. He wears black gloves and is often seen holding a bag of chips. In his Enigma of Fear version, he wears larger headphones with a microphone attached, positioned on the left side of his face, and socks.[4]

Calamity[]

In Calamity, Samuel appears more tired, and his beard has grown a bit since his last appearance. He wears clothing similar to what he wore in the previous season, now with greenish pants and gloves, black flip-flops, and he seems to be wearing his green shirt under a black sweatshirt with the G-Force logo.[7]

Personality[]

Little is known about Samuel's personality at this time, but it can be said that he is a considerably friendly and humorous person towards the Order's agents, accepting new members and worrying about the health of others. Samuel appears to have a certain dread of the paranormal, freaking out when he hears Dante mention the name of the Devil.[8]

Biography[]

Past[]

Before the events of The Secret in the Forest, Samuel was responsible for recruiting Cesar Oliveira, later known as Kaiser, into the Order. He also drew inspiration from Kaiser's hacker alias to create his own, which he named Daylight Demon.[9]

He also researched information about The Host and his cult together with Johnny Tabasco and Rubens Naluti.[5]

Deconjuration[]

During the events of the season, Samuel would typically stay in the research room at the Ordo Realitas Base. He was present on the first day of Beatrice Portinari, watching a video while eating a bag of chips[4] and later working on something[10]. During the early hours of the following day, Samuel would quickly receive a phone call from Erin Parker[11], and on the same day, he would be shocked to see the scar on Kaiser's face after returning from the Santa Menefreda Orphanage[12].

A few days later, Samuel was sleeping in the room after spending the night playing, being woken up by Arthur and informed of the death of Tristan Monteiro, getting shaken and asking for some time alone.[13]

Calamity[]

Samuel was one of the agents sent to Italy after the mansion's massacre in the Famiglia Leone, supporting research in the mansion's computer room for a while.[7][14]

Three days after his return to Brazil, he attends the symbolic funeral of Joui Jouki and Kaiser, remembering the good times and saying goodbye to his friend.[15]

Enigma of Fear[]

After Mr. Verity's disappearance, Samuel went together with Mia, Lupi and Agatha to the Perimeter, where he had seen it was known as "the place that doesn't exist", and that several agents of the Order had disappeared 20 years ago there. He accompanies Mia in this investigation, acting as a support of the agent and giving some tips through radio stations found in the area.

But beyond that, Samuel has a fundamental role. As Mia investigates the Perimeter, she also finds several items with paranormal features, which Samuel finds a way to decipher and decrypt to understand what they hide. While he investigates these items, each time he finishes the process of one, the computer screen of the Elite Team's base where Samuel operates reproduces several Sigils from the Other Side, as if they were writing separate phrases.

After solving a total of 20 items, Samuel feels something paranormal calling him: a call from the Other Side itself. He questions Agatha about it and sees that this is the perfect opportunity to really test what he had been refusing for a long time. Thus, Samuel gathers the 20 paranormal items and steps on the Transcend Symbol. He begins to fully understand the Other Side, as well as all the phrases that appeared on the computer screen. A set of phrases that formed a prophecy. He then begins to feel a connection with another person, and realizes that maybe he is transmitting this prophecy to this person, or even the opposite. After the end of the connection, he returns from the Transcending state and reports everything that reminds Agatha.

After a long time of investigation of Mia and Lupi, Samuel returns with Agatha in the Other Ending when Lupi tries to bring his tutor back. When they meet, Samuel seems to have no memory of Mia’s existence, while becoming an anomaly in that place. Soon after, he meets with Jaser, appearing to be quite intimate and friendly with the Unhaunted One, result of replacing Mia for him. However, after the last choices of Jaser in the Other Ending, everyone returns to the initial point of investigation, where they realize that Verity was fine and that the mission to find him had been easier than it seemed. So, Samuel, Agatha, Mia, Lupi and Verity return home in the van of the Order.

Trivia[]

  • It is likely that Samuel has a caffeine addiction, as seen by the many cups of coffee scattered throughout the computer room, where he is most of the time.
  • In his first appearance, he is shown eating a bag of "Candangos" brand snacks, an obvious parody of the "Fandangos" brand. [4]
  • Samuel's laptop has a sticker of a Green Serpent from the game Songs for a Hero, also developed by Dumativa.
  • The code used to play as Samuel in Enigma of Fear is SUL, coming from SamUeL. Interestingly, his code can be taken as a purposeful joke, taking into account that his last name is NORTE (with Norte meaning NORTH and SUL meaning SOUTH).
  • Samuel has a theme song called "Samuel’s Theme".
