Olivier Florence[1]

Olivier Florence is one of the protagonists of the series Paranormal Order, present in The Secret in the Island.[2]

He's a college student, son of Angelina and Montel Florence and younger brother of Amelie Florence. Olivier, along with his family, traveled to the island of Tipora due to the work of his father, who was hired to evaluate the works of a missing painter who lived in the mansion where the Florence would stay. There, he met Bárbara Lima and Milo Castello, who would join the two brothers to uncover the secrets of the island.[3]

Olivier first appeared in the 1st episode of The Secret in the Island, waking up uncomfortably after spending the night sleeping in one of the rooms of the boat that was taking him to Tipora.[4]

He wears a necklace around his neck with a sword-shaped pendant.

Personality[]

Olivier is a rather reclusive and quiet young adult, not showing very strong emotions and not raising his voice much, except when talking to his sister, Amelie, where he tends to be more reactive and angry, despite easily giving up the discussions after a while. Olivier is also very apathetic in most situations and social interactions, clearly demonstrating his lack of interest in something that does not captivate him. Still, it is apparent that he cares a lot about his mother and sister, always trying to protect them when they are in danger.

Biography[]

Past[]

Olivier Florence was born in São Paulo[5] in August 25, 2001,[6] being son of Angelina, brazilian, and Montel Florence, french, growing up with his sister, Amelie.

This led to a conversation between him and Amelie, which further strengthened the connection between the two brothers.

The Secret in the Island[]

Olivier, already in his 20s, travels to the island of Tipora in an old boat, accompanied by his parents, his sister and Cavalcante Bueno, a real estate agent. The Florence chose that island as their destination because Montel had been hired to analyze and evaluate the paintings of Constantino Moretti, a mysterious painter who lived on the island until disappearing without a trace. After some complications with the boat, Olivier arrives in Tipora. Adrian, the boatman, asks Olivier and Amelie to take a lunchbox to the lightkeeper, an unstable individual who attacks Olivier after being awakened by the brothers. Soon after, Bárbara Lima andf Milo Castello, two residents of the island, arrive, volunteering to help carry the Florence family’s bags. After a conflict with a boar, the group arrives at the Moretti's Mansion, where the Florence would stay. They are faced with an old-fashioned yet elegant and luxurious environment. After a few moments of investigation, the four youngers decide to separate, Olivier and Milo go to the village to buy ingredients for the dinner that would happen in the mansion while the girls stay investigating the house. The two young people know each other better during the walk to the market where, after buying what they needed, they are approached by Amora and Ian, who ask for the help of the two to rescue the cat Bisteca from the hands of Pedrinho and Vitinho Nemiera. Milo ends up punching Pedro in the face before rescuing the animal, and after receiving the free supplies as a thank you, they return to the mansion. Now gathered, the four youngers, intrigued by the mysteries of that mansion, gather and analyze all the evidence that the girls found, deciding to go to the library, where they find a horror story about a painter who murdered his wife. They realize that someone needs to look at the painting of the figure alone, and Amelie decides to go. Some moments pass and Olivier hears the desperate cries of Amelie, who was terrified and convulsing on the floor. Olivier manages to calm the sister in time, and after dinner, everyone prepares to sleep, terrified by the paranormal encounter.

The next day, Olivier is awakened by his sister and the two go to the kitchen to have breakfast prepared by their mother. The family decides to go to the beach and Olivier goes ahead and finds Bárbara tTending her plantation, he talks a little with her before being approached by his sister and mother, who invite Bárbara to accompany them. He goes with the girls to the beach. There, they enter Milo’s house and talk to him. Suddenly they hear screaming and animals fighting appear on the beach and the group ends up being involved in the fight. As a result, Milo ends up poisoned by a snake and Bart}p, who heard the shouting on the beach, returned and carried his son to the village doctor. In addition, Olivier also leaves quite injured and is taken by his sister and mother accompanied by Vagner to the doctor too. There, Olivier and Milo are treated. At the end of the day, Olivier participates in the Church Barbecue, eating a lot and discussing with his friends about the mansion. After partying a lot, everyone decides to go home, and on the way, the youngers are approached strangely by Cavalcante Bueno, while hearing the lightkeeper speaking nonsense things about "uncle Constantino". Eventually, upon returning to the mansion, the group reunites and Olivier talks with his father and gives him advice on the situation of the family. After this, in an unusual way, Bárbara makes a shocking revelation to Milo, saying that in fact he never really existed and, since his birth, he was Miguel Castello, someone he believed to be his twin brother. Olivier and Amelie were together, but they were quiet and completely confused by the situation. Bárbara and Milo leave the mansion then leaving the brothers behind. The two then decide to go to sleep instead of trying to figure out what happened on their own. However, in the middle of the night the two wake up with a noise on the third floor, they once again question what may be it and Olivier decides to open the door and look at the hallway, but sees nothing. They think it’s best not to go check on the place at dawn and go back to sleep.

The next morning, Olivier wakes up in his room next to Amelie, he calls her and the two leave for the hallway, strangely not hearing any signs from their parents. The two complain of being sick, and go to the bathroom, where they clean and talk a little. They are interrupted by Bárbara and Milo, who arrive knocking on the door of the mansion, they meet and Olivier decides to go to his parents' room, finding both lying in the same bed asleep. Returning to talk to Milo and Bárbara, Olivier asks how the two are, after yesterday’s discussion. After the conversation about last night and the noises, the group begins to search the mansion, looking for more clues. Until at a certain point, everyone hears the horn of Adrian's boat, indicating that he had arrived on the island. They decide to split into pairs, as they should intercept Cavalcante, their prime suspect before he leaves the island. Olivier remains in the house exploring with his sister, until a certain moment, Milo and Bárbara return accompanied by Cavalcante’s colleague, Wanderley. After brief presentations, the group again hears loud knocks at the door, and when they open the door, they're approached by the residents of the island looking for Amora, saying the little girl was missing, so everyone volunteers to help, with Olivier and Milo going to look for her on the beach. There, Milo notices something black that stood out in the sand as they go to the object, both of whom feel as if something terrifying is about to happen. When they get closer, they realize that it was actually Cavalcante’s hat and, next to the rocks, they see Cavalcante’s corpse with his face completely open and sunken, next to a painting that contained the same scene. The boys are shocked and traumatized by it. Olivier and Milo begin to investigate the scene. Olivier ends up looking at the painting alone and he is terrified, and falls on the ground. After a while, the two are approached by Amora, Evandro and Otávio and then, they leave the scene with Amora at the request of Evandro. Upon arriving at Barnabé's house, Milo puts her to sleep and talks with Olivier. Olivier then vents in his friend, saying he just wanted to leave, and that he is tired of the whole island situation, also demonstrating his immense concern for Amelie and Angelina, confessing that he does not know what he would do if something happened to them. Milo tries to encourage him by saying that Olivier should not lose hope. Olivier then stands up and hugs Milo, saying he trusts him. Both leave together for the mansion, however, Milo says he will not sleep at Bárbara’s house this time due to his birthday the next day. They say goodbye and Olivier enters the mansion, running towards his sister and hugging her, being relieved to see her well. They have a quick encounter with Wanderley, which makes the youngers suspicious of him. Eventually, Bárbara and Amelie decide to sleep in Olivier’s room, sleeping together.

That night, Olivier has a very lucid dream. He was in his parents' room, lying on the floor at night and hears a noise in the closet. He approached and saw Cavalcante's body standing, still with the hole in his face. The body begins to walk towards Olivier who immediately ran out of the room, ignoring the figure and desperately trying to wake up. He ran as he saw more like figures chasing him. During his escape, Olivier came across the huge painting of Constantino, noticing that it was different from before, and without thinking twice, jumped into the painting, running away safely and waking up from his nightmare.

Scared, he gets up from his bed looking for Amelie and Bárbara on his room, who were nervous after having nightmares too. After calming down, Olivier leaves his room to see his parents, however, just in the hallway he observes Montel, AngeThroughout the debate, Olivier remained quiet, just listening to what the delegate had to say, until, as Evandro begins to point out suspicions aboutlina and Lívia arguing on the stairs. Olivier heads to separate the fight and calm Livia, who seemed upset. He manages to contain the confusion and goes soon to see the situation of his parents. Bárbara goes after her mother and Milo follows her, while Olivier, Amelie and Wanderley go down to the first floor and find Adrian and Otávio arriving. Otávoi explains that he was there to question them about the day before. Amelie goes first with the policeman while the rest goes to the kitchen to have breakfast. There Olivier eats Adrian’s special omelette with disgust while waiting for his sister. She arrives and Olivier is interrogated by Otávio. Throughout the session Olivier remains indifferent about the questions, which raises the suspicions of the policeman, releasing him from interrogation quickly.

Olivier then arrives in the kitchen and finishes his meal, finding also Milo and Bárbara arriving. They all talk along with Wanderley, who after learning of the meeting that would take place in the church during the afternoon leaves for the village, leaving the young people behind. The group talks about Wanderley’s suspicions and decides to go up to his room to investigate. They search for the briefcase and the painting, which were previously in Cavalcante’s room. Olivier searches among the others, but finds nothing. So the four leave for the church for the meeting. Olivier and the group arrive at the church, realizing that all the residents were already there. Olivier sits next to Milo and prepares for the rally that Evandro prepared. Throughout the debate, Olivier remained quiet, just listening to what the delegate had to say, until, as Evandro begins to point out suspicions about Bartô, the man seems to lose control, screaming insanely and assaulting the policeman. All those present at the site despair and start running out of the church, while others try to stop Bartô, including Olivier, however, Bárbara quickly manages to calm him down. Evandro begins to take Bartô to the police station, Milo and Bárbara follow him, trying to prevent Bartô from being arrested. Olivier, Amelie and Wanderley stay in the church to help Francisco Oblito who was feeling sick after all the fuss, Olivier stays by Amelie’s side, trying to help Návia to take care of the priest.

The brothers eventually leave the church and search for Milo and Bárbara, going to the police station, meeting only Otávio. They are prevented from entering. Seeing that it would not help to stay there, the two see Wanderley going to Barnabé's house and go after him to see Amora. There, Olivier is called by the little one, that gives him two drawing, with one of them having him and Milo saving Bisteca from Pedrinho. Olivier thanks Amora and hugs her, leaving the merchant's house refreshed. Outside, the brothers and Wanderley notice dusk and go to the mansion to rest. On the way, the three find Milo and Bárbara, who are returning from the boy’s house. Everyone argues more about the paintings and how the whole situation is very strange as they walk. They enter the mansion and depart to Wanderley’s room, where he reveals where the painting and the briefcase of Cavalcante’s room are. The group looks at the painting together and everyone feels strange. After that, they go down to the kitchen and see that Angelina had left a dinner ready for everyone. So they eat and go to their rooms, combining to investigate more the next day. The group says goodbye at night and Bárbara and Milo go home. When you take a skill test, you can spend 2 BP on that test to add another 1d6. Olivier has a nightmare. He sees the silhouette of the lighthouse, but cannot get there. He walks around the mansion and when he passes through the painting of Constantineo he hears sounds of brushstrokes and realizes that the painting is again in a liquid form. He decides to enter the painting and wakes up from the nightmare. The two brothers eventually wake up and do their morning routines. Bárbara and Milo join them for breakfast, but soon Evandro arrives with Otávio. They arrest Montel, saying that there were his fingerprints on the painting at the crime scene. Everyone starts protesting it, but the two take Montel anyway. Angelina searches her husband’s medical report stating that he had a condition that prevented him from painting. In this, Olivier, his mother and the rest of the group go towards the police station.

In the middle of the way, one infected boar appears, an unnatural being. The group is frightened, but everyone puts themselves in position to fight. Olivier stays behind to protect his mother, while Wanderley and Milo destroy that monster. They go to the village and find Otávio and Evandro scared facing wild animals with this same paranormal aspect. They leave some residents inside the police station safe and Olivier, Amelie and Wanderley go to the church to help. There, they kill an infected dog and realize that it was trying to reach the locked room in the back of the church. The three decide to enter the room and see a strange painting. Wanderley insists that he should see the painting alone and Olivier, Amelie and Adrian accept and stand guard. After some time, Oli and the others realize that Wanderley was unnaturally modified.

They go to the square, where Barnabé is desperate with the disappearance of Amora and shows a macabre drawing of the hooded figure with a message from the girl. So, they go looking for her. Returning to the beach, Oli and the group find a cave with a statue resembling the creature, but no sign of Amora. Olivier, Barnabé and Adrian return to the village after separating from the others and find Amora well and safe. Olivier questions where she was and she says that her father told her not to leave the room and that’s what she had done. Confused, Olivier notices an uproar at the police station and goes with the others to check it out. He finds the terrifying scene of Bartô dead in the same way as Cavalcante in the cell next to his father’s. Near his body, there is a painting of Bartô with a terrifying creature behind him: the same creature from Amora’s drawing. The sight of the painting leaves him stunned, the world around him distorting as he hears the bell tolling, a premonition of his own death.

Still paralyzed by fear, Olivier tries to understand what is happening around him. He hears his father, Montel, warning that everyone on the island will die, while his mother, Angelina, screams in despair. The bell’s toll grows louder, deepening his fear and sense of inevitability. As more people arrive, Olivier finally snaps out of the trance and rushes to Montel’s cell, pleading for his release. He leaves the station in search of help, finding his sister and his friends. Upon learning that the keys are in Evandro’s house, he and Amelie head there to retrieve them. Together, they unlock the safe, finding a set of keys and another marked for the Evidence Locker. Back at the station, Olivier frees Montel and takes him outside. With the station emptied, he and his friends decide to investigate the crime scene, where they discover a deformed metal object in the cell toilet. Intrigued, they decide to gather more information from Amora about her “imaginary friend” and head to Barnabé’s house. After failing to talk with the girl, they proceed to Milo’s house, where they open a chest containing another distorted painting and blueprints of the Moretti's Mansion. Examining the blueprints, they find details that lead them to explore more secrets of the mansion.

Now in the mansion, Olivier opens a secret compartment in the library, revealing notes pointing to other hiding places. He, Milo, and Bárbara regroup with Amelie and Wanderley, who also arrive at the scene, and together they unlock the house’s key panel, granting access to the third floor. There, upon entering the staff quarters, they come across the bodies of Leila Lima and Emério Cunha, along with a melted painting of the Lima Family. Bárbara requests to see the painting alone, and the group obliges. After hearing Bárbara’s screams from the room, everyone rushes to her, attempting to calm her, but it is Olivier who succeeds. He shouts, runs to Bárbara, grips her shoulders, and brings her back to reality with his words. As they leave the room, Olivier and his friends agree they are unprepared to deal with what they have to deal. They then ask Wanderley to train them, and he agrees, training Olivier and his friends throughout the night.
