Night Mutilator^[1]

Deputy Aguiar, also known as the Night Mutilator, is a serial killer and one of the antagonists of the Paranormal Order Christmas special, Gruesome Christmas. He makes a duo with Jae to murder people in the region of Inquisidor do Vale. Despite this, he is the only one who is said to be responsible for the series of disappearances in the region, receiving his nickname for always hunting his victims at night.

He made his first appearance hunting campers inside the Juno House, where he found and incapacitated Ricardo. Then he dragged him to an old cabin and hung him on a meat hook. Shortly after he cornered and killed Leandro with his axe, while trying to escape after rescuing his friend.^[2]

He was also responsible for the deaths of Lila eand Nathalia, brutally killing them and throwing them off a cliff after incapacitating them in an ambush.^[3]

At the end of the events of Gruesome Christmas, Aguiar is arrested by the Order after being left adrift on the pier of the lake of the Camp.

Appearance[]

Aguiar is a tall, muscular man with wavy black hair and a smooth face, usually covered by a white mask decorated with the design of a red-bloodied hand. He wears a red jacket with torn sleeves being worn over a white tight shirt, jeans and a standard boot. It is also evident an interlaced suspensory forming an X on his chest, stuck in what seems to be a utility belt, and several belts attached by his body.

Behaviour[]

The Mutilator has a habit of hunting his victims during the night, chasing them in a kind of sadistic hunt, and he can even count on the help of bear traps and guard dogs to incapacitate his prey. He usually uses a small timer to mark how long his victims take to be killed - deaths that are always brutal, usually by axe strikes. The Mutilator walks calmly to his victims, usually waiting until he gets close to attack them, but when necessary, he also throws his axe to hit them. There are few moments when Aguiar loses his composure, showing genuine anger only after seeing his dog die, where he stops acting calmly, and starts running and screaming after Ricardo, that killed his dog, ignoring anyone else. Aguiar also doesn't know how to swim, making the water the only safe place to escape from him.

About 10 years before the events of Gruesome Christmas, in 2013, the then rookie patroller Aguiar was responsible for arresting Alice Lucina, known in the time as the Menhuntress. During the episode, Aguiar mentions the case when meeting with the young people after answering the call by the police.

Gruesome Christmas[]

On December 21, 2022, Deputy Aguiar is sent to the Goodwill Moon's Camp after the police received a call from the group of people who were there after a bus accident. After a brief conversation with the group, he sets off to investigate the camp. He remains absent during all the times where Jae attacked the survivors.

Hours later, the survivors, fleeing from the killer, go towards the deputy, asking him for help. However, Aguiar not only shows friendly to the figure, as he wears a white mask with a red hand and says that "the next round was him". The Night Mutilator and Jae kidnap the three survivors and take them to the attic of Juno House.

Three days later, on December 24, a second group of young people arrives to stay at the camp with the aim of spending Christmas. The Night Mutilator arrives at the camp unaware of the presence of this group, only discovering them after seeing a stone thrown by Leandro. The killer follows to Juno House and finds the survivors, managing to knock out Ricardo and take him to a destroyed cabin. Throughout the night, he also kills Leandro with axe strikes and throws Lila and Nathalia through the cliff next to the lake.

Some time later, Aguiar hears the survivors of the two groups in the attic of Juno House, but does nothing. When Shanyqua gets trapped in a bear trap, he appears with Jae to ambush in group, managing to kill the young woman. After the others ran away, they arrive at a cabin to try to ask for help. The group ends up calling the attention of Aguiar's Hunting Dogs, but one of them is brutally killed by Ricardo in a bestial outbreak, everything witnessed by the killer. The Night Mutilator chases Ricardo to the docks.

At the pier, Ricardo gets into a boat and pushes it away, creating distance between him and the killer. After thinking for a few seconds, Aguiar takes the rope that used to tie the boat to the pier and ties it to the axe. He throws the axe at Ricardo, hitting the young man in the chest and making him fall back into the boat. After that, he watches Jorel approach the docks with the mask of the Menhuntress. Initially, he doesn't realize the farce and believes that figure is really Alice Lucina. He only understands what is happening when Jorel breaks the pier and leaves Aguiar stuck in the lake on top of the remains of the dock. He tries to throw his axe at the masked man, but without success.

Later, when Ordo Realitas arrives at the scene, he is arrested by the agents and taken to the Order' base.

Trivia[]

The Night Mutilator was, respectively, inspired by the characters Jason Voorhees, from the franchise Friday the 13th, and Trapper, from the game Dead by Daylight.^[4]
