Miguel, [...] I will try my best to bring you back, no matter what.

Milo Castello[1]

[...] I’m here! And I’ll always be here, because the door is open.

Miguel Castello[2]

Milo Castello, whose original name is Miguel, was one of the protagonists of the series Paranormal Order, present in The Secret in the Island.

He was a resident from Tipora, an island located 250 kilometers from the coast of Espírito Santo. He lives in a house near the beach and was one of the fishermen of the island, following in the steps of his father, Bartô Castello. With the arrival of the Florence family to the island, Milo and Bárbara Lima, his childhood friend, see an opportunity to break their monotonous routine and, along with Amelie and Olivier Florence, decide to unravel the secrets of the island and the mansion of the missing painter.[3]

Milo first appeared in the 1st episode of The Secret in the Island, waking up in his house and then going towards an empty room next to his, where he takes a banjo and plays some chords looking at the sea before going to receive the new visitors of the island.[4]

Milo was killed during the battle against the Imaginary Friend, after being dissolved by the creature.[5]

Aparência[]

Milo was a young man, 5.57 feet tall, fair-skinned, with wavy, brown hair usually messy, and green eyes. He wore a brown jumpsuit over a navy blue turtleneck sweater with some exposed seams, and used to walk barefoot. He wore a golden necklace with a photo of his brother, who later gave it as a gift to Amora Aleno, and carried on his back a banjo with an embedded octopus drawing. He also had an octopus stain on his left forearm with his tentacles extending up to his fingers, like his father's stain.

During one of Milo’s nightmares and while contemplating the Castello's Painting, Miguel reappeared to his brother, this time in a melted form, with his eyes capped by the medium-sized wavy brown hair that was wet by the rain, without the octopus mark on his arm and with a dead flower in his left ear, an old gift of his childhood love, Bárbara Lima.

Personality[]

Milo Castello was an anxious and impulsive young boy who always mirrored his "twin brother", Miguel Castello, to make his decisions and the way to act in the face of routine facts. Being a boy of few friends and living isolated from the village, behaved protectively and friendly with all residents of the island. In view of the orders of his father, he acted respectfully and felt uncomfortable confronting what was put to his ethical and moral stamp.

Miguel Castello was described as being kind and strong, always protecting those he loved and being friendly to people. After being combined with Milo in "Prosopagnosia", Miguel again had control of his body, demonstrating to be someone more serious and focused than his brother, taking his protective posture and facing paranormal creatures without hesitation.

Biography[]

Past[]

Miguel Castello was born on June 28, 2002, son of Bartô and Helena Castello. However, during his birth, the young man’s mother died due to complications in the childbirth. During his childhood, he lived an almost ordinary life and a childhood crush for Bárbara Lima, with whom he lived adventures together, shared information with each other and protected each other. However, from an early age, Miguel’s life had an abnormal element. As a baby, the young man had been born with the same octopus-shaped stain on his arm as his father, and from time to time had extremely realistic hallucinations of an "imaginary friend" he treated like a twin brother named Milo, whom only he and his father could see, eventually introducing him to his best friend, Bárbara. Believing that he was just an imaginary friend of Miguel, the residents of the island pretended to play and "talk" with Milo, who saw reality differently, not being able to realize that his "twin brother" always repeated what he said to others, and believing to be a normal person like any other.

However, around 2012, Miguel began to feel the "door", the connection that connected him with Milo, closing forever, and realized that he had a choice; whether to disconnect from his brother forever or let his friend take his place indefinitely. And Miguel chose the second option, answering the "call" he was feeling and giving his body to Milo, believing that he also deserved a chance to live and would eventually be able to meet him again. From his brother’s perspective, he saw himself as sick and weak, remembering being with a terrible fever when Miguel disappeared, as a kind of "substitution" for the fact that they were both losing connection to each other. Then, in Milo’s perspective, on the full moon night of June 28, the twins' birthday, he came across Miguel facing the sea in front of his house, something he always did when he was having trouble sleeping, saying that the "door was closing" and walking towards the bottom of the sea, "disappearing" forever.

At Bartô’s request, the islanders never revealed to Milo that he used to be an imaginary friend, even making a fictional burial for Miguel.

The Secret in the Island[]

Now as Milo Castello, making sure that Miguel was his twin brother, Milo wakes up at 7:30 AM from a nightmare in his room. After taking a few minutes to recover, Milo leaves his room and goes to the living room, meeting his father, Bartô Castello. After talking, Bartô leaves to fish on his boat and Milo goes to the village. He crosses the forest and arrives at the village of Tipora, finding Barnabé, the island merchant. He then takes the fish his father ordered and goes to the docks to meet the new visitors. At the docks, he comes across Bárbara and the Florence along with Cavalcante and his old friend Adrian. After a brief conversation and presentation, Milo and Bárbara decide to guide the family to the mansion.

Once there, the two are invited by Angelina for a welcome dinner to the island, as a thanks for the help in facing a boar in the middle of the route and carry the bags for the family. After sharing the functions, Milo and Olivier go to the village to buy ingredients for the dinner. Upon arriving in the village they come across a worried Amora and Ian crying, saying that Bisteca was kidnapped. Looking for the cat, they find Pedrinho and his brother Vitinho, the self-named owners of the island, mistreating the animal. Milo confronts the two, and after exchange of offenses and aggressions, Pedrinho throws Bisteca into the air, which clings to a tree, serving as a distraction for the brothers to flee. Milo climbs the tree and manages to save Bisteca safely.

At dusk the pair returns home and go to meet Bárbara and Amelie, who had stayed to investigate the mansion. The group talks about what they found, including talking about a painting with a very strange figure. After discussing about the object, Amelie decides to go alone to face the painting, since her theories indicated that something different would happen if someone did. Some moments pass and Milo with Bárbara and Olivier hear desperate cries of Amelie, who was terrified and convulsing on the floor. After they manage to calm her down and talk about what happened, everyone prepares to sleep, terrified by the Paranormal encounter. Milo ends up sleeping in Bárbara’s house because he did not want to return to his house alone in the dark.

The next day, Milo and Bárbara wake up and furious knocks are heard at the door of Bárbara’s room. Mrs. Lívia wanted to know why Milo’s father was there looking for his son who had not gone to sleep at home. The mother fights with her daughter for having gone to the mansion, while Milo and Bartô return to home. During the course, they talk and Bartô tells about the church’s barbecue that would take place in the late afternoon of the same day. At his home, playing his banjo, Milo hears Bárbara and the Florence outside on their way to the beach. They enter the house and Milo, who decides to open the door to his father’s room for the first time, begins to investigate the room. inside, Milo finds for the first time a photo of his mother, however, they are quickly interrupted in the middle of the investigation when they hear cries of Angelina. Animals fighting appear on the beach and the group ends up being involved in the fight.

As a result, Milo ends up poisoned by a snake and Bartô, who heard the shouting on the beach and came back to help, carried his son to the village doctor. Milo begins to rave about the poison, talking about his "brother" Miguel and asking questions about Zélia Castello to his father, a name he saw in the papers while investigating the mansion, not getting any answers. After Návia stabilizes Milo's clinical condition, the others in the room find a notebook referring to the birth records made by Olga Eiland, where they note the last name of the list, Miguel Castello, who had complications in childbirth in 2002. At the end of the afternoon, everyone leaves the house and goes to the barbecue that was happening, there the young people talk about what they discovered on the day more quietly, with Milo even finding a time to play his banjo for everyone in the village. After eating and interacting with several people from the village, Celestino strangely appears in the middle of the barbecue.

The group, after accompanying Adrian to the lighthouse with his uncle, decide to go to the mansion, despite Bartô’s resistance, which eventually relented. At the mansion, the group discusses the birth record and fight for Milo not to take it, but upon seeing the record, Milo discovers that in fact, he never existed. Milo was always an imaginary friend of Miguel’s, who he sometimes played, until one night, Miguel took Milo’s personality permanently, simply stopping to appear and disappearing. For 10 years all the village kept this lie, but Bárbara couldn’t go on with it anymore and told the whole truth, and after that, she returns to her home. Milo follows her, and even with the discussion the two sleep in the girl’s room.

In the middle of the night, it is raining a lot, and Milo sees himself on the beach, seeing the sea and a silhouette, it was Miguel. The boy is happy to finally see his "twin brother", who is exactly like him, Miguel talks about the door being opening again. Milo wakes up from his nightmare soaked in sweat on Báarbara’s bed. He woke up later than his friend and sees that she left clothes and a note, asking him to take a shower. After a quick shower, Milo and Bárbara reunite and talk about their entire situation, and how it affected them both. In the end, neither of them resent the other, and decide to go about their lives "normally". Both then go to the mansion to find Amelie and Olivier, and when they get there, everyone starts to argue about everything they’ve discovered so far, and also what they should do from that moment on. While investigating the mansion rooms, Milo hears the sound of Adrian's boat arriving in the island, he then decides to go to him to intercept Cavalcante, someone who everyone thought was very suspicious, and who was supposed to leave that day.

On the way, Milo and Bárbara talk and decide to keep secret about what was revealed to him about his brother. The two arrive at the docks and find Adrian with Wanderley, Cavalcante's colleague, who would replace him from that day on. On the way back, both decide to take Wanderley to the mansion. There, the man introduces himself to the others and decides to look for his partner, but does not find him anywhere. While talking, the group is approached by the villagers looking for Amora. They then quickly leave to look for the missing girl, with Milo and Olivier going down the beach. On the beach, Milo notices something black that stood out in the sand and as they go to the object, both Milo and Olivier feel as if something terrifying is about to happen.

When they get closer, they realize that it was actually Cavalcante’s hat and, next to the rocks, they see a completely frightening scene: Cavalcante’s corpse with his face completely open and sunken, next to a painting that contained the same scene. The boys are shocked and traumatized by it. After recomposing themselves, Milo and Olivier begin to investigate the scene, after a while the two are approached by Amora, Evandro and Otávio. The two then leave the place with Amora at the request of Evandro. On the way, Milo discovers that Amora has an "imaginary friend", so he tries to find out more about it, afraid that the little one is going through the same problem he spent many years. Arriving at Barnabé's house, Milo talks to her more about her "friend" as he puts her to sleep playing his banjo. After that, Olivier was worried about the situation of the people he loves, Milo tells him not to despair, that it is better to hope for a better future than to succumb to despair. The two talk about everything that is happening, hug each other and say they trust each other.

Thus, Milo takes him to the mansion and says goodbye to his friend, saying he will sleep at home this time because of his birthday the next day. In his house, Milo goes to the empty room and vents to himself, talking to Miguel and saying that he will do everything to bring him back, stating that he did not give up to find him, nor that for that he has to go in his brother’s place. Milo ends the day looking at the sea at night with the clock at 12:00 AM, marking his birthday.

Milo has a very lucid nightmare, dreaming of his brother and father with faces of disappointment and disdain. He hears a sound of a crying baby under his father’s bed and looks for a door. He enters the door and wakes up after the nightmare. As he leaves the room, Milo finds his father at the door of his room. Bartô congratulates him and presents him with a well-made and beautiful machete. The two go to the table for coffee and Milo vents in his father about who he is. Bartô becomes stressed and states that he always had two children no matter what others say. They are interrupted by Evandro who takes Bartô to the police station for questioning. Milo then goes to his room and takes the diary he shared with Miguel, but fails to open it due to the recent nightmare.

He decides to enter his father’s room and looking under the bed, he finds a large locked chest. The boy goes to the mansion, where he finds Bárbara and together the two go to the cliff of the island to read the diary. After talking, they find a note meant for Noralma and decide to go to the mansion. There, they talk to Amelie and Olivier about the documents, and Milo is frightened after seeing a figure briefly. The group rummages through some rooms, but finds nothing new. Then they head to the church for the rally. Upon arriving there, Bartô is indicted by Evandro and Maíra and suddenly he becomes angry and has black veins around his eyes with pupils of different sizes. He starts to fight and Milo tries to stop him, but without success. Eventually, Bartô is arrested, leaving Milo completely confused and nervous. He, along with Bárbara, goes to the police station, where they are not allowed to enter. They find Cavalcante’s autopsy papers and pick them up and then go to Milo’s house to try to open a locked drawer from his father’s room.

The two try to open, but the key does not work, so they decide to return to the mansion. On the way, they meet Wanderley, Amelie and Olivier and have a talk. They decide to trust Wanderley, who tells where he had hidden Cavalcante’s things, including a painting. They look at the painting together and everyone feels strange, and decide to leave it hidden. Finally, they decide to go to rest.

The next day Milo and Bárbara wake up together, getting up and trying to talk to Lívia but without success, she expels them and the two go to the mansion, meetingAmelie, Olivier and Wanderley having breakfast, everyone gathers to eat until Milo hears noises in the main hall of the mansion, he goes there and sees Evandro arresting Montel, everyone begins to argue with the delegate and Otávio, while Montel is taken. After the officers leave and Wanderley fails to convince them to release Montel, Milo decides to go after them through the forest.

During the walk in the middle of the forest, Milo hears noises in the bush, realizing that something was approaching he prepares, until everyone sees a huge boar, totally rotten and grotesque, that advances on them. After Wanderley uses a revolver to kill the animal, they argue about it, until they hear gunshots coming from the village. Arriving there Milo sees Evandro scared and dealing with more transformed animals, the group approaches and enters the police station, seeing that there were more animals approaching, Wanderley and Evandro remain outside to deal with them.

Inside the police station Milo looks for something to help, also trying to convince Evandro to release his father, who promptly refuses and sends some of them to his house to get a pistol to protect themselves, Bárbara and Milo volunteer, going to the house of Evandro and finding the gun, Milo picks it up, and delivers the machete to Bárbara, accompanying Evandro and Otávio through the forest, searching for the origin of the infected animals. The paint trail leads them to the lighthouse, but entering the place they do not find the lightkeeper, but several dead animals, and worried about Celestino, they all leave to the mansion.

On the way Bárbara gets impatient and worried about her mother and runs ahead, Milo follows her and the two enter the gardener’s house, not finding Lívia there, Bárbara panics and goes to the mansion directly, while Milo tries to stop her, but when they open the door of the mansion, the two encounter Lívia in front of Constantino’s painting, while facing Celestino who jumps and attacks the woman, the police arrive and everyone immediately tries to stop the lightkeeper who was out of control, starting a fight. During the fight Milo always tries to protect Bárbara and becomes hesitant to attack Celestino, but is forced to do, until he advances brutally on Lívia, opening her neck and killing her in front of Bárbara. Seeing this the gardener rages and begins to attack Celestino without stopping, stabbing him several times to death, Bárbara was out of control and Milo tries to calm her down.

As Amelie and Wanderley arrive, they promptly try to help Evandro, who had suddenly fainted, and also help Milo calm Bárbara, who was incessantly attacking the big painting of the painter. Milo remains hugging and trying to calm her down at all times, until Wanderley goes upstairs into his room and returns with his backpack, beginning to tell a brief story to everyone and revealing that it is part of an "Order". He delivers a gun to each and calls them to go to the village, telling them that they will save as many people as possible.

Milo arrives at the village with everyone and notices the chaos in the station, being approached by Davi and Návia that desperate yell that Bartô died, and by hearing this Milo goes into shock and runs off to the police station, being followed by Bárbara, and on the way Adrian tries to stop him, but Milo manages to get to the cells and witness the scene of his dead father next to a painting that contained a creature, seeing all that Milo goes into despair and begins to go crazy, feeling that he would die the next day for that same monster.

Milo was on the verge of madness, screaming and crying for his father, unable to enter the cell, he is saved and back to his senses thanks to Bárbara, the two leave there and she continues comforting him in the police room, while several people enter and leave the place, until, Milo takes courage again and everyone enters Bartô’s cell, with Milo finding the keys to his house, and also a note, which his father kept to himself, saying how he should approach his son. Wanderley, Adrian and Barnabé organize and decide what to do, Wanderley separates with Amelie and leaves Olivier with Bárbara and Milo, who leave to talk to Amora about her "Imaginary Friend", but are prevented by Iara Suna who was taking care of the children at the request of Barnabé.

The three then decide to go to the fisherman’s house, and there finally open the chest that was under Bartô’s bed, with Milo finding a strange picture that had a figure holding a baby, also finding some blueprints of the mansion, which belonged to his ancestors. They decide to go to the mansion and investigate it further, and arriving there, using the blueprints, the three find some keys and while investigating, they are reached by Amelie, Montel and Wanderley, who arrive at the mansion and help them find the key to the third floor, located in the sewing room. After that Milo decides to go up there with the others, and when entering the place, everyone feels something strange, a fog very present, however, the group can barely investigate the rooms and Bárbara almost goes crazy after touching the paint.

After calming Bárbara, they descend, with Wanderley deciding to train them to face the creature, noting that the youngers are still very unprepared. He then spends the night training everyone, including Milo, who along with Amelie has a theoretical class to become occultists and use the Paranormal to their advantage. After the training, at dawn, Milo meets with the group and aligns strategies about the current situation of the island and decides to look at the rest of the paintings they have to get new information. Thus, Milo fearless, was in charge of visualizing the painting of his family in the first floor's office of the mansion.

The moment Milo looks at the screen, he can no longer let go and feels the same call since he was a child inside, however, after that time he managed to learn to hear the call, he hears the sound of a baby crying and noises of a bell ringing in the background and everything melting around him. In the vision, he is present in his house, in the hallway, in front of the room of his "brother" who is looking out the window. They talk about the understanding of the call, the hallucinations, the past that surrounds their family and the opening of the door that resulted in the rediscovery of the feeling that he always sought, by viewing the picture.

At the end of the appreciation, Milo comes out of the vision crying and euphoric, with the octopus stain on his hand that appears to be alive and with a sense of abstinence with the paint, he talks to Bárbara and informs about the return of Miguel, in the room the "three" talk about the reunion desired for years. Afterwards, the group looks at all the paintings that remained, getting the answers they wanted and finally entering the third floor one last time.

But Montel, who accompanied them, did not seem to be comfortable in the place, he is asked why and at the same time flees from there, coming down to the door on the first floor, encountering the body of Lívia standing, transformed into a Blood Zombie, Milo follows and also sees the creature, quickly preparing for combat. With everyone’s effort, they manage to finish the monster, but Montel was mortally attacked by her, making them help him by stagnating his injuries.

Again everyone goes up to the third floor and investigate the place, finding various documents and objects, but already impatient they leave to the painter’s studio, and entering there, they witness a place with several old and dirty things, but mainly a painting standing out. They approach to contemplate it together, and discover a terrible secret. In the paint, the group realizes and finally understands that on the day that Cavalcante disappeared, he was actually trapped and killed by Barnabé.

Returning to reality, Milo and the others quickly prepare to go after Barnabé. On the way they come across Otávio running away from Bartô's Blood Zombie, but already trained, they manage to eliminate the threat without great injury and Milo proves anxious and reflective by witnessing the death of his "father" again, planning to use the Other Side to become stronger, being prevented by Wanderley, which explains about the evils arising from its use and be conjured only in urgent moments.

After the battle they talk to the policeman and go to the village, arriving there they realize whispers coming from the church, understanding that the meeting of all would take place there. Milo decides to investigate Barnabé’s house one last time before confronting him, discovering that he suffered from a disease called "Prosopagnosia" and a trapdoor located below his house. While they investigated Barnabé's market, the group heard screams coming from the doctor’s house, and going there, they witness Otávio facing Cavalcante’s body transformed. After the battle the group enters the place and finds Návia and Evandro, talking to the two about the situation and taking them to the church, to finally unmask Barnabé.

Arriving there, after a conflict to get inside the church that was barricaded, Barnabé reveals a picture and everyone feels the same thing: emptiness, dread, repentance and fear, horrible feelings flood the sensations of all there and a hooded being, with the void in its face and a curved posture comes out of the painting.

During the fight against the creature, Milo assisted in the confrontation and remains helping and trying to save the people inside the place, entering and taking them out while the creature was still motionless in front of the painting. However, after it pulls Barnabé and melts him with the paint that dripped from its face, it starts trying to catch the remaining people, making more victims.

Witnessing this and after managing to save the survivors from the monster’s tentacles, Milo and the others who remained for combat, at one point, see that the Imaginary Friend finally understands and takes an offensive stance, attacking and grabbing Barbara quickly, melting her face in a cascade of paint. Soon after, it advances and attacks Milo and Wanderley, leaving them badly injured, resulting in Wanderley’s death and subsequently killing Milo, being dissolved by the creature.

Relationships[]

  • Adrian Vurtoren: Milo had a close relationship with Adrian, as the two had been close friends since Milo’s childhood in which Adrian told the stories of the adventures of his travels. Whenever they interacted, it was clear that Adrian was very proud of Milo.
  • Amelie Florence: Milo was a little apprehensive during his first contact with Amelie, as she appeared to be upset about being on the island and appeared not to like him very much. But even so, Milo was excited to have someone new to talk to. As the day went by, Milo became more comfortable around her, and Amelie more familiar with him. Nowadays Amelie even called him a friend, something that, even hesitantly, was reciprocated by Milo.
  • Amora Aleno and Ian Suna: The children have a relationship of admiration with Milo, seeing him as someone strong and reliable, since he is constantly called "Super Milo". Milo is very fond of them, always trying to comfort them and keep them safe.
  • Bárbara Lima: Milo was a close friend of Barbara’s from childhood, as the two would have grown up together, playing and exploring the island as children. For some reason unknown at first, however, Milo was not as close to Bárbara as he had been during the events of the campaign. It is revealed that their relationship was much deeper than just a distant friendship, as Bárbara and Miguel felt a childish crush for each other, something that was lost after Milo appeared.
  • Bartô Castello: Milo had a respectful relationship with his father, always obeying his orders and never lying to him, dedicating himself to being the best son possible. In everyday life, Milo helped his father with fishing and selling his merchandise. After Milo found out that at Bartô’s request everyone on the island hid the truth about his "brother", he showed no anger, but rather confusion, further proving the great respect he felt for his father.
  • Miguel Castello: Since childhood Milo has always had a strong connection with Miguel and, after his disappearance, he vowed to find him. When the two finally met after Milo entered the trance of his family's painting, he was very happy to talk again with his brother. Upon learning that Miguel gave his place so that he could live when the door opened, Milo felt sad, but understood his brother’s side and was amazed to realize that the two connected in one.
  • Olivier Florence: Milo had a similar first impression of Olivier to that of his sister Amelie when he arrived on the island, as he appeared to show disinterest or dislike being there, nor to be very sympathetic to him. However, over time the two were getting closer as they went talking through the forest while they were going shopping for Olivier's mother to prepare dinner, and getting even closer when Olivier helped him rescue Bisteca, the village's cat, that was stolen by Pedrinho and his younger brother. Recently both treat each other like great friends, usually preferring to go together as doubles for the most diverse situations.
  • Pedro Nemiera: Milo and Pedrinho had known each other for a long time, and so each knew exactly how the other would act. In their interactions, there were constant disagreements and conflicts between the two, motivated by Pedrinho’s contempt and Milo’s defensive stance towards the other inhabitants of the island. Later, it is discovered that, in the past, Miguel and Pedrinho were great friends, and that they played together around the island when they could. Pedrinho’s resentment for Milo was thus based on the loss of his best friend.
