Jaser Strach

Jaser Strach is one of the main characters in Enigma of Fear. He is considered the game's antagonist, despite also being one of the playable characters. Jaser is better known as the Unhaunted One.

His birth, an event known as the "Rise of the Unhaunted One", transformed the entire life of his family, fullfiling the "Purpose of the Strach", making each member have the Vision and understand their role in the Enigma of Fear. Jaser was also who manipulated the members of the Order so that they could also perform their functions within the Perimeter, after Verity ran away with Mia.

In the game’s plot, Jaser finds himself in the Cathedral, waiting for the fullfill of his Vision along with Verity. However, after the cycle breaks, by Mia’s interference, he feels that he is able to make the choice he could never have made all this time: to cease to exist and change the story so that Mia would stay in his place.

Appearance[]

Jaser is a short, thin white man. He has completely green eyes without pupils and a scar of the Mark of Fear on the left side of the face. His hair is black with an asymmetrical cut that is longer on his left side and with a white streak on his right side. As an adult, Jaser is seen barefoot, wearing a completely black overcoat with some buttons, a pair of black pants and a nun’s scarf around his neck. Although hidden by his clothes, Jaser is covered with several scars of various types on the whole body.

Personality[]

Jaser is the Unhaunted One, thus, he knows everything that will happen and every step of his life, not having any choices or free will outside the Prophecy of the Unhaunted One. Therefore, Jaser shows practically no emotion, since he has no Fear and knows how everything in his life will happen. This unemotional attitude lasts completely from childhood to adulthood, maintaining a calm and cool voice and an entirely static expression. Despite this, inside himself, Jaser feels fragments of emotions, as when he says to himself that he would have liked his time with Verity and Sofia had lasted longer. The only time Jaser presents strong emotions is when he comes across Mia during his final battle with Verity, where something finally happened different from how Jaser had seen, laughing wildly with a huge smile on his face, while screaming in euphoria and fear. After the final battle, when Jaser meets with Mia and Lupi for the last time, despite his initial apathy, Jaser shows himself as someone understanding and kind while talking to them.

Biography[]

And I remember every single time.

Jaser Strach

His birth brought with it the remnants of his end, causing a vision in all the members of the Strach and generating hope for Abraham, who believed that he had been the father of the Unhaunted One, and could thus continue the "Purpose of the Strach", but Jaser is actually the son of Yuri with Abraham's wife, Andrea, who died giving birth to the boy.

His childhood was extremely troubled, since Abraham tried to make him feel fear in various ways possible, abusing Jaser physically and psychologically. Because of this, the doctors of the Elite Team believed that being born and growing up on the Perimeter generated incalculable trauma in the boy.

What's the greatest fear of all?

Jaser Strach

Around the age of 12, when Abraham completed the construction of the Cathedral, Jaser is knocked out by him and chained in the Cathedral, with the aim that the Unhaunted One would find the God of Fear and thus feel fear. Abraham believed that by doing so, he would become the God of Fear himself, but this was not his function. Then, Jaser frees himself and goes to the kitchen to get a knife to kill his "father". By doing so, Verity and Sofia Besatt find him and take him to the Order’s base in the Underground to be treated and cared.

Sofia believed that Jaser's case would have to be handled in an unconventional way. Thus, she and Verity become responsible for caring and studying the boy, quickly creating strong ties of affection from both sides.

This part... I wish it lasted longer.

Jaser Strach

This period ended when Sofia needed to be isolated because of her pregnancy and unfortunately died due to Mia's birth. Verity took his baby and ran away from the Perimeter, afraid of what could happen to Mia when she was born and grew up there, leaving Jaser and the other agents behind. However, Jaser didn't know what exactly had happened to Sofia, much less of Mia’s existence. After all, she was isolated in the "Forbidden Room", a place that he could never enter. Jaser then leaves the Unhaunted One Wing and goes to Calisto, who had a vision, as well as all agents present in the Perimeter, generated by Mia's. Then, Jaser reveals the Prophecy of the Unhaunted One to him, saying that:

Only the God of Fear can bring about the Other Ending.

Jaser Strach.

So making Calisto do everything to bring Sofia back.

More than 20 years later, when Verity returns to the Perimeter, Jaser knows it’s time to imprison him in the Cathedral and battle with him, a battle in which both die. Through the Pillars around the Perimeter made of petrified Ooze, which were also marked by the Graveyard's Fissure and filled with the Paranormal Crystal, in addition to being energized by a large amount of energy through the Perpetual Engine, Jaser’s memories are "repeated", restarting the eternal cycle of his life by "receiving" the memories of his full life at the time of his birth.

Thid ending... once again...

Jaser Strach

Until something finally causes fear in the one that knows everything that will happen and breaks that cycle.

In one of the infinite loops of Jaser’s life, Verity somehow manages to hit and hurt Jaser before his final blow, causing confusion in the Unhaunted One, who wonders how that could be happening. At the end of the battle Mia manages to enter the cathedral and prevents Jaser from killing Verity. At that moment, the prophecy is concluded, because seeing that person, who had never appeared in any repetition of his life, Jaser feels fear, thus making the God of Fear bring the Other Ending.

THIS NEVER HAPPENS!

Jaser Strach

After the final battle of Mia against the Enigma of Fear, Jaser has a short conversation with the God of Fear until he is interrupted by Lupi. He is finally free to do what he wants, going through the Perimeter, completely changed and transformed by the Other Ending, while revisiting all the places that he has been locked up during his entire life. However, now it was different, now he could choose. Jaser has the choice to take Mia’s place and have her family and friends.

[...] I am free to choose.

Jaser Strach

However, with the stubbornness of Lupi, he makes the choice that no one could have ever made and comes across Mia, carrying Lupi with him. After talking, he explains that even if finally he could have a free life, being able to choose his destiny for the first time since his birth, Jaser has already made his decision: give all this so that Mia continues to exist in the Other Ending, with Agatha, Samuel, Verity and of course, Lupi. Jaser, with the freedom that was granted to him, having the infinite of possibilities in front of him, makes the Impossible Choice, and, by going against the infinite of Fear, he ceases to exist.

Because now we have the same eyes.
