The Holy Cradle Hotel is a key location in The Secret in the Forest, being seen for the first time in "Hotel", during Team H's first day in the village of The Holy Cradle, and being revisited by the group whenever they needed a safe place to spend the night. Despite seeming like a safe place for the Ignarii, the hotel is inhabited by several types of bizarre and bestial creatures that manifest at night. Therefore, the person responsible for the hotel, the The Hotelier, always instructs the Ignarii to follow the rules so that they have a safe night. [1]

History[]

The Hotel, one of the oldest buildings in The Holy Cradle at over 150 years old, was built to house the Ignarii that visited the city, with Mick Vultz, one of The Five Guardians, being the first person responsible for the place.[2]

While the Old Hotelier (father of the current Hotelier) commanded the establishment, he encountered a mysterious and powerful passive entity that fed solely on his dreams, and upon discovering more about it, he began to do several tests with other animals and strangers that arrived at the village,[3][4] claiming that if he could control this powers of this creature, he could become a god.[5][6] At some point during his tests, he made some serious mistake and turned the previously peaceful monster completely aggressive, which began to chase him and torment him every night of his life. When he could no longer bear the torture, he ended up committing suicide, leaving behind only part of his diary, where he wrote down all the minimally important events of his daily life. The creature remained trapped in the hotel, manifesting itself in dreams and feeding on the guilt of the new strangers who slept there. The fracture in the veil also ended up attracting other beings, who began to live and cross the corridors at night.[7]

The Hotel has already had 4 Hoteliers who are registered thanks to a series of paintings of each of them in the Entrance Hall, all made by former Artists of the respective era.[2]

  • The first was Mick Vultz, one of the 5 scientists who founded The Holy Cradle, posing with a serious face, a bushy beard and wearing reddish clothing.
  • The Second, certainly with less relevant information, has very black gray skin, a slightly overweight body, hair shaved on both sides and a friendly smile on his face.
  • The third painting, of the Old Hotelier, is of a bad-looking man, with thick, half-closed eyebrows, a bald head with a scar and very dark clothes. This Hotelier is the same one who appears in Episode 15: "Source", who receives Team Kelvin, and tests on them the capabilities of the Parasite he was creating.
  • The fourth and last of the paintings shows the current Hotelier, but a little younger, with a little shorter hair, a thinner beard and a wide smile on his face.

Rules of the Hotel[]

The Hotel Rules are a set of rules designed to improve guests' stays and ensure their safety at night, which must be strictly followed by everyone who sleeps there.

  • Rule no. 1: It is not recommended that more than one person sleep in the same room nor that the dynamics of the rooms be changed.[8]
  • Rule no. 2: It is not recommended that the Ignarii leave their rooms at night if they hear music echoing through the hallways.[9]
  • Rule no. 3: It is not recommended that the Ignarii don't leave their rooms at night if they hear a vacuum cleaner passing in the corridors, stating that there is no vacuum cleaner in Holy Cradle.[10]
  • Rule no. 4: It is recommended that the Ignarii do not open the door to a little child by knocking and asking if they are their mommy.[11]
  • Observation: It is said by Hotelier that people don't usually dream in The Holy Cradle.[12]

Despite being said that it is not common to dream in Holy Cradle, the agents are affected by the Dream Parasite, which causes everyone to have shared and extremely vivid dreams. The dream is only interrupted when the real parasite is defeated within the dream.

Compartments[]

Entrance Hall[]

Hall de Entrada

The Entrance Hall is a huge, beautiful room, probably the tidiest among all the others. On the right, it is possible to see a large counter with several books lined up, a large open notebook, and some keys. On the left, a circle of red armchairs, a small table in front of them, a square rug underneath, and a bench leaning against a wall. Behind this cluster of armchairs, there are 4 pictures of all the hoteliers who have ever worked there. Several chandeliers are spread throughout the room, making it well lit.

Rooms[]

Quartos do Hotel

The rooms are numbered 101 to 106 on the first floor, and 201 to 206 on the second floor. They all follow the same pattern, a chest next to a double bed or two single beds, a large closet, some empty shelves with a pretty rug, small windows on the walls and a small lamp on a countertop. All the walls in the rooms are made of a very thin type of wood, making it possible to hear what is happening in other rooms easily.

Balcony[]

At the end of the second floor, there is a glass door that leads to a balcony with a beautiful view of the entire city.

The Hotelier's Room[]

Quarto Hoteleiro

After the Hotelier experienced a dream about his father and found his diary hidden behind his painting, he left the place and headed towards the Tavern.[13] In that short space of time, the group manages to break into his room to investigate the interior, breaking down the door and finding nothing suspicious, other than some cleaning equipment, some to-do lists and some tools thrown around the room. He has a large bed, a bookcase and many boxes stacked in one corner.[14]

Trivia[]

  • Rule no. 3 is the first reference we have to the creature Succ, which only definitively appeared in the 13th episode of The Secret in the Forest.
  • During the end of the 0th episode of Calamity, it is revealed that the entity mentioned in rule no. 4 was an instance of The Needy, created by Daniel Hartmann, being a creature that mostly attacks women who are going through or have already gone through the state of pregnancy by devouring their internal organs.
