While I’m stepping on this island, things are under control.
Evandro Eiland[1]
Evandro Eiland is a resident of Tipora Island that works as the police chief of the place. He first appeared in the 1st episode of The Secret in the Island, being called by Barnabé Aleno to help with the problem of the stolen cat, problem that he got mad about after knowing what it was about, turning his back and leaving.[2]
Appearance[]
Evandro is a middle-aged man with brown skin and gray hair. He wears a dusty blue overcoat with his deputy badge attached to it, a striped white shirt, a pair of pants and a pair of boots, both in black.
Personality[]
Evandro, according to Barnabé and Milo, has always been a somewhat irritated man who does not like to be called to solve things that are not serious, such as a simple disappearance of cat. Despite his reputation for being stressed, Evandro has always handled all the problems that happened on the island very well, finding solutions for everyone and protecting people.
Evandro was described by Návia, his sister, as a completely different person as a child, being lively, hyperactive and impulsive, having changed drastically after the group of childrens invaded the mansion to be able to see what was inside the mansion, and especially within the 3rd floor.
Biography[]
Past[]
Evandro was born in January 11, 1965 at the Tipora Island, son of Olga Eiland, the medic of the island. As a child, Evandro was extremely curious to find out what had in the Moretti's Mansion, especially on the third floor, that his friend Lívia spoke so much to him about how it was forbidden to go up there, and that the painter was probably up there making painting in his studio.
One day, Evandro called all the youngers, including Bartô Castello, the most introverted child on the island, to invade the mansion to explore its interior and try to go up on the 3rd floor. Everyone accepted and began to explore the big house, observed all the rooms, offices and the library, where his sister Návia was very interested, leaving her there to read a little more as he tried to go upstairs with the other children on the 3rd floor.
After looking for a way to go up, the young people succeeded, walking quietly and with a little fear to where the studio of Constantino Moretti was. When they finally arrived at the door, Bartô opened it, but as he was very tall, Evandro tried to move away a little to see what was in place. In this, he accidentally bumped into Bartô, making him slip and fall with his hand into a can of paint of the painter. Bartô's reaction left Evandro in shock, with the boy starting to scream desperately, his hand getting stained as if he had been burned by the paint. Desperate and remorseful for what he did, Evandro pulled Bartô out of the studio, and ran screaming desperately with the other children. After that day, Evandro was never able to look at Bartô the same way, also feeling guilty that it was the main cause of all those events having happened. Not knowing how to deal with this guilt, his temper changed dramatically, and years later, he became the police chief of the island.
The Secret in the Island[]
Day 1[]
Evandro was called by Barnabé Aleno to help Olivier and Milo to catch Bisteca, Ian's cat that had been stolen by Pedrinho and Vitinho, who were mistreating the animal. Evandro, after seeing what the situation was, left the place angry because he thought it was a serious emergency.
Day 3[]
Evandro was searching for Amora along with Barnabé, Adrian and Otávio, since the little girl was gone, saying she would find her "friend". He asked for the help of the people who were in the mansion, causing them to divide.
After Olivier and Milo found Cavalcante Bueno's dead body with his face open, Evandro arrives at the crime scene. He gets in shock with the situation, but soon takes an investigative and harsh stance, sending the boys back home. When the civilians of Tipora go to the beach to look at the dead body, Evandro tries to force the population back to their homes and protect themselves, stating that there was no monster on the island, and that he would find the culprit for the murder of Cavalcante.
Day 4[]
The chief begins the day by going to Bartô’s house, calling him to be interrogated. He also sent Otávio Nemiera, his helper who works together with him, to interrogate the Florence family and Bárbara, who lives on the side of the mansion. He then warns that there will be a rally in the church, to talk about the investigation of the case.
At the rally, Evandro reaffirms: there is no monster on the island, there are no ghosts or anything paranormal, being only a murder and that he would find the culprit. When people begin to blame Bartô, Evandro heads to him and begins to try to handcuff him, but in a fit of rage, Bartô punches Evandro, causing him to fall to the ground stunned. When Bartô is calmed down, Evandro arrests him, and takes him to the police station, placing him in a cell. Evandro discusses a little with Milo about his innocence, and then sends them home.
Day 5[]
Evandro receives Barnabé at the police station, who had brought breakfast for both him and Bartô. Evandro also receives the news from Návia that the prints of Montel Florence, the patriarch of the mansion family, were present in Cavalcante’s painting. He heads to the mansion, immediately arresting the analyst and taking him to the police station.
When the protagonists arrive near the village, they begin to hear shots coming from the town, running there, comes Evandro killing several Infected Wild Dogs with his pistol. He, being helped by Wanderley, manages to exterminate all the creatures. Evandro asks that as many people stay inside the police station, and if someone could go with him to investigate where the creatures come from, he would give a gun that was inside his house. Then Milo and Bárbara accept, going with the chief to investigate the creatures' trail.
The tracks lead them to the Tipora Lighthouse, where they find several dead creatures at the top of the building and the missing lighthouse keeper. After remembering that her mother was home alone, Bárbara calls Evandro desperate to see if she is okay, and then the group goes to the mansion to find out if Lívia was fine.
Arriving at the mansion, they see a bizarre scene: Celestino, the lightkeeper, with a bestial posture trying to attack Lívia. However, something seemed wrong with Evandro. While trying to shoot Celestino and miss, he begins to feel totally nauseous, falling to the ground vomiting blood, and fainting soon after. After Celestine was stabbed to death by Bárbara after he murdered her mother, Wanderley arrives at the mansion, gets a rifle and takes Evandro to leave him with his sister Návia, to check if he was fine.
Arriving at the village, they find that Bartô was killed. Návia runs to her brother, and with Wanderley’s help, takes him to her home, starting to do checks to find out what had happened to her brother. Návia finds that Evandro was somehow poisoned, keeping him on one of her stretchers.
Day 6[]
When Wanderley, Milo, Bárbara, Amelie and Olivier arrive at the village, running desperately after finding out that Barnabé Aleno was the killer and the painter of the mysterious paintings, and that he poisoned Evandro with the breakfast, they go to Návia’s house to find out how Evandro is. He wakes up still extremely weak, having to be carried by Otávio to be able to walk, fainting as they run to the church to confront Barnabé. After the invocation of the creature, Evandro was taken by Návia to her house again, to take shelter.
Day 7[]
After the fight ends, dawn happens and they see Amelie and Olivier returning from the place. Evandro questioned whether Otávio and Barnabé were alive, receiving news of their death. He soon directs everyone to organize to leave the island.
During this moment, Evandro saw the arrival of the agents of the Order, Arthur Cervero and Walter, speaking with both and pointing to Amelie and Olivier that they had saved the lives of everyone living there. He got on the island boat, leaving along with all the other survivors.
