Kian knows.
Escribes
The Escribes are an organized Occultist group mainly focused in the Element of Knowledge. This group worships Kian, a millennial occultist.[1] With Kian's returnal as a Marked, this cult aims only at one goal: to execute the Calamity, an event which will cause nothing to have even existed and will only be completed when Kian kills everyone that knows about the existence of the Paranormal.[2]
History[]
Past[]
Its place of origin is unknown, but it is believed that the group was created more than 4000 years ago, like a band of bloodthirsty warriors known as Escribes that marked on their bodies tales of their invasions and terrible massacres, feeling that, somehow, this gave them more strength, which really happened because they were concentrating all that fear in the Paranormal, which would repay them with power. They were led by a man known as Gal-Sal, the most bloodthirsty of the group.[3]
During an invasion in a village, Gal met a boy named Kushim that lived with his family, and mercilessly made his mother and father his personal slaves, torturing them in front of the boy every day to serve as a source of Fear. The boy, who could not react, had his fear increased by Gal-Sal more and more, until he reached a point where the terror generated became so high that both his parents, already torn completely, were transformed into bloodthirsty beasts strengthened by the Other Side, later serving as creatures that would assist in the massacres.
Kushim is taken by Gal-Sal, serving as a source of Fear for the Escribes, living daily with those he most feared and with the two monsters who once were his parents. His fear eventually became hatred, which made him wish to destroy the Paranormal and all those who used it for their own benefit.
Times passed, being present in all these genocides and with all this accumulated Fear, Kushim becomes the first person to hit a complete paranormal exposure, thus creating, inadvertently, the first existing ritual, the Transcendence, a way to connect directly to the Other Side and get all its dark power. However, Kushim was "Chained", an ordinary human forced to follow the reins of Reality, unable to utilize everything he had just learned from the Other Side in its full form, and to this he would need to become a "Marked", a special individual not limited by Reality and its rules, something impossible since a Chained does not become a Marked by the will of the person, only the Mark can choose this special individual.
However, the impossible is exactly what defines the Other Side, and with that in mind, Kushim began to develop his plan, a prophecy, an order of events, the Deconjuration Order, a set of steps that would make him a Marked. Along with this method, using the local faith of his time, Kushim adopted a new name, Kian, the merging of the names of the sky deity An and the earth deity Ki, responsible for creating the world according to the inhabitants of ancient Mesopotamia, becoming the one that would bring "The Calamity" by merging and then separating the Other Side of Reality completely.
Kian started to be considered the "God of Knowledge" due to his total wisdom about the Other Side and ability to teach any ritual to an individual in his presence, praised by his disciples and followers, who helped him stay alive in exchange for a fraction of his knowledge, and so he remained for millennia.[3]
Kian continued to distributing his knowledge of the Other Side for generations, staying alive through the realization of a process known as "Passage", performed by Tirigan. This consists of a series of rituals using a child as a source of Fear, to separate his mind and his knowledge, storing the mind in a receptacle with consciousness and knowledge in a shell without consciousness, which assumes the Wretched Semblance, Kushim's original appearance. Kian's memories are accessed when its vessel reaches 50% Paranormal Exposure.[4]
In Paranormal Order: Deconjuration, Kian and his cult acted with the help of children who grew up in the St. Menefreda Orphanage, thus continuing in their search for the Markeds to complete their Deconjuration Order, with the help of Gal, one of the orphans who acted as leader of the group.[5]
The Escribes rely on the help of other groups of minor Occultists, such as the New Dawn Building Occultists, that provided people tortured physically and psychologically, who were transformed into Existeds, semi-dead entities that weaken the Veil only with its presence. Currently, with the Deconjuration finally complete and Kian's returnal as a Marked, the goal of this group is to end the Paranormal using the Relics of Calamity, blindly obeying Kian by his promises of knowledge and power.[6]
Characteristics[]
The Escribes have whitish eyes, which indicates blindness, they usually wear simple clothes, and walk shirtless, revealing their bodies covered with tattoos from texts that include last words of famous, texts and horror stories in various languages, being mostly English, Portuguese or Latin for almost all its body, except for Kian who has yellow eyes, standardized lines and Sigils of Knowledge in his body instead of conventional texts. The Existeds, entities created by this cult to affect the Veil with their presence, have these same tattoos extending throughout the body without any exception, some still use remnants of their old clothes and tunics hiding part of their bodies.[7]
Gal, who acted as leader of the Escribes in Deconjuration, used a black blindfold with markings in cuneiform script. He had chained himself to three entities, being them Enpap-X, Sukkalgir and Fernando Carvalho's body with Kian's Wretched Semblance.[5]
The Escribes despite being blind, do not appear to have difficulty locating their enemies. For the most part, Escribes use Knowledge Rituals.
