Elza Verlaz

Elza Verlaz was a resident of Bariguara, in the interior of Mato Grosso, that only appeared in the 0th episode of Calamity. Her Dry Blood Zombie was killed by Team Vultures,^[1] that were investigating a case of the appearance of "The Devil" along with a child visiting her home during the nights.

Appearance[]

Elza was a woman in her 40s and 50s with dark hair and deep dark bags under her eyes.^[2]

After being attacked and devoured, Elza’s body began to become a Dry Blood Zombie, with a twisted body, face deformed and internal organs completely removed, leaving her ribcage exposed.^[3]

Biography[]

Past[]

Elza Verlaz was a woman who sold crafts during festivals, until she met Juan Davo, "the Devil himself", when his circus arrived in Bariguara. Elza fell madly in love with Juan^[4] and ended up getting pregnant from the same, who left along with the circus.^[5]

When the child was born, Juan returned to visit her and according to Eusébio, at night the two were shouting "strange words" and making noises as a red light came out of their house,^[6] while both performed some sort of ritual to summon the Devil, so that Juan could make a deal with it.^[7] The next day he was gone, and Elza was full of marks.^[6]

Juan returns when the child was born, but this time Eusébio would invade the house to find out what they were doing with the child, what he witnessed in that house traumatized him deeply, and if it wasn't for Eric Typhoon^[8] he could have been killed. Eric killed Juan and locked the trapdoor with a special lock^[9] and asked Elza to never try to open it.^[10]

Years later without even trying to open the locked room, The Devil often returns along to a child, together with a same horror book,^[11] leaving a while later, repeating it every night.^[10] Elza begins to manufacture several wooden statuettes of a devil and shed her own blood, as a desperate attempt to please Juan, but no matter how many statues she makes or how much blood she offers, they keep coming back the next night.^[4]

Calamity[]

Elza makes her only appearance during a flashback in the 0th episode of Calamity, where she was still shaking down in a corner inside her room, completely dark, messy and full of burnt papers.^[12]

Staring at the door as if she was expecting something or someone, until she hears footsteps in front of her house, she covers her desperate ears and the footsteps stop in front of her door, someone knocks on the door only saying "mommy?".^[13] A while later, Elza’s body is found by a cop that contacts the Ordo Realitas reporting the unusual state of her body, which had all of his internal organs removed.
