- For the occultist group, see Escribes.
Blood, Death, Knowledge, Energy, congratulations, my students. You almost passed my test, just one more element remaining, the most important, but this one I give you the answer... [...] The Fear.
Escribes is the fifth episode of Paranormal Order: Deconjuration. It aired on November 28, 2020.
Synopsis[]
The team continues to explore the mysterious orphanage for answers about their missing friend. Between deadly challenges and hidden knowledge, fighting is the only way out to find who they’re looking for.
Summary[]
Still in shock to see people in his photos without mouth, Kaiser panics. He screams and starts to cry, accusing the group of having done this to him, especially Dante. While Arthur, Beatrice and Joui try to calm him, the occultist says he does not know any ritual that has such an effect. In order to control himself, Kaiser takes a photo of Joui and Arthur, and sees that these new photos have not been changed, but the old ones remain the same.
After Kaiser recovers from his crisis, the group continues searching the Orphanage. They pass through the corridors, until they find a chapel. In it, Beatrice, Dante and Kaiser come across two Existeds, one of them floating in the air, and bible verses fixed on an altar along with five stones. Beatrice kills one of the monsters with her crossbow and the team decides to lock the rest in the room. However, the Existed changes to its luminous form and begins to charge against the door, forcing Kaiser to execute it with a shot.
Following the corridor, Beatrice notices that Orpheu, agitated, suddenly begins to sing. Beatrice explains that the potoo birds are known to warn death by singing. Without believing these superstitions Joui opens the door that Orpheu stared at and the potoo rushes in. Inside there, Beatrice gets shocked seeing her mother, treating the injuries of an Existed. She has several tattoos, similar to the Escribes, short, dark hair and whitish eyes.
The woman tells Beatrice not to approach, but she runs to hug her mother, who just disappears amid colorful lights, with a sad smile on her face. Trying to understand what happened, the team discovers the body of an Existed on a stretcher, dead not long ago.
Following the map they found, they return and go to a large courtyard, where they see some escribes and existeds. The escribes seem distracted, glorifying someone called Kian. The team decides to split up to catch them by surprise - Kaiser and Arthur stand in position, while Beatrice, Dante and Joui circle around the building to access the opposite side of the courtyard. On the way, Dante returns to the room where they had faced the group of escribes earlier and theorizes if the Existeds were not only occultists at the end of their transformation. Beatrice finds a Bible, and she and Dante remember about the commandments written on the altar of the chapel, trying to decipher its meaning.
When they arrive at the entrance near the main gate, Beatrice realizes that, even blind, a man on a bench has his gaze fixed on her, with a macabre smile on his face. Dante recognizes him as Henri, one of his friends at the orphanage. In a calm tone, the escribe approaches, referring to Beatrice as Lilian, and suggests that if they do not want confrontation, the team must participate in a sequence of challenges. Confused by the occultist’s statement, Beatrice confronts Dante about the name Lilian, the same name used by him as soon as the two met again. Under pressure, Dante reveals that this is her real name, and only pretended not to recognize her at the Order's Base.
However, before more explanations can be given, Henri invites everyone to the center of the courtyard. He reveals to have also heard Arthur and Kaiser on the other side and thus the five members of the Order discover the nature of the escribe’s challenge. They question the man about the purpose of all this, and Henri only replies that the enemies will leave them alone and reveals that Liz is on the second floor, but they could only go there if they won two of the three challenges.
With this, Henri summons one of his men, José, for the first confrontation, but soon realizes that the agents of the Order had already killed him. With this, another escribe, Agarim, with a large scythe in his hands, is called and Joui applies for the duel of Blood, only with blades. The Japanese asks for the knife with occultist drawings found by Dante and advances with his katana. In two moves, Joui cuts Agarim in half and he falls dead.
For the next challenge, Henri calls Nergal, for what he describes as a duel of Pain, without blood. Kaiser volunteers, however, given the nature of the combat, Dante is encouraged by the others to fight. He asks Nergal for animal ashes and plucks an organ from Agarim’s body, more precisely, the liver, to perform his Decadence Ritual. Soon, Dante summons his occultist forces and his enemy starts to get sick grotesquely until he withers like a hollow and dead plant.
Impressed and excited by the invaders' demonstration, Henri congratulates the winners, but says he would like to see even more blood. Under a leafless tree, the leader of the occultists approaches a muscular Existed. Henri wounds him, making him glow, and flees along with his surviving companion. Immediately, the creature runs to attack Beatrice, Joui, Arthur, Kaiser and Dante. The huge Existed injures Beatrice, but soon has its head torn off by Joui’s katana.
With the battle over, Beatrice and the rest of the group demand Dante’s explanations. He says that once he realized that Beatrice had undergone a Change Memory Ritual, he thought it best that she knew as little as possible to protect her. Now aware that Liz is trapped on the second floor of the building, the five head to the elevator, only to find it trapped by a huge padlock.
While Dante takes care of the injuries of Joui, the other three enter a library looking for a key. Right at the entrance, Beatrice finds a strange paper, only with the word "Mirror" written on it. When she turns it around, she sees a symbol, and at the same time, a second Beatrice enters the place. The library door magically locks, making it impossible for Joui and Dante to hear what’s going on inside. The two Beatrices dialogue with each other, and discover they have the same memories. Then a malicious laugh echoes through the environment. The voice says that, to get out of there, their "students" should solve a series of puzzles, in his class about the Other Side Elements.
To begin, the voice whispers to Arthur that "the first is hidden inside all of you". After theorizing about blood, trauma and secrets, Arthur decides to open one of the books in the biology session. He faces a human figure only covered by the muscular structure and gets shaken by a flashback of the Carrion. Realizing they are on the right track, Kaiser finds an engraving of the human skeleton and then a spiral from the skull begins to form. The voice congratulates them, presenting the first element: DEATH.
The voice gives the next riddle: "If you ignore me for too long, you’ll probably lose control completely." Kaiser looks for something in the self-help books, but when Arthur opens a cookbook on the page of his favorite meal, a blood-stained palm appears and causes blood to overflow in the book. The voice congratulates them, presenting the second element: BLOOD.
The third riddle says that "knowledge can be dangerous. Learning everything about a subject may n. Perhaps the safest is to learn a little about all subjects". Arthur suggests looking for an encyclopedia and without much hesitation, Beatrice 1 heads to a table and finds an encyclopedia. Upon opening it, the letters begin to shuffle, becoming unknown symbols. The voice congratulates them, presenting the third element: KNOWLEDGE.
In the fourth riddle, the voice asks: "How can so many books have the same weight?". After theorizing about the weights of the different library books, Kaiser and Arthur think about the amount of books that a cell phone can also store. Kaiser opens his cell phone, which is already open in a book. Out of nowhere, several books pass by, several glitches happen on the screen, and a symbol appears on the phone. A symbol that Kaiser knows. The voice congratulates them, presenting the fourth element: ENERGY.
Finally, the group prepares for the last puzzle. In this, Anthony, a bandaged figure, with papers written on his body, appears behind one of the Beatrices. With a knife around her neck, he whispers "THE FEAR" and slits the throat of the fake Beatrice, who has her body disintegrated and becomes a puddle of flesh and blood. He sticks two papers on a shelf and disappears. In these papers are written the words "ANTHONY" and "DISSIPATE", and behind them, occultist symbols of rituals, as well as a large key behind one of them. At the same moment, the door unlocks and the group is greeted by Joui and Dante, worried about their friends. They regroup again, discussing what happened in the room. Arthur takes the paper where it was written ANTHONY, and feels something strange, but unknown. Being asked if the papers were paranormal, Dante says that the paper Arthur took was already used, while the paper of DISSIPATE was still cursed, and could be used to transcend. After that, the group leaves the room, and having the key in hand, they open the elevator, heading to the second floor.
There, the team goes through some locked doors and finally comes across a corridor of cells. Inside them are people in shambles, uncertain of what is happening to them. However, upon reaching the end of the corridor, they see that next to her companion, Gustavo Dohmer, there is an elderly woman, wearing a brown overcoat, and various tattoos in the region of her chest. It's Elizabeth Webber.[2]
