The Carpazinha Public Library is one of the locations in the city of Carpazinha that Team H used for research during the investigation during the campaign The Secret in the Woods. The building is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the city, with a well-kept architecture.[1]

History[]

It is visited in the first episode, "Team Kelvin", being the place where the main group goes to find leads about the Lunatic Doctor, a legend of Carpazinha, initially told by BrĂșlio, in Ape Hangers. When the protagonists enter the place for the first time, they are faced with a completely disorganized place, with books stacked outside the shelves.

Soon the team is faced with Jéssica (girlfriend of Murilo, attendant at Carpazinha Hotel), distracted and trying to organize the place, Thiago and Joui approach her, asking for more information, until the girl directs them to the Newspaper Archive, where apparently there is everything that has ever been published about the town of Carpazinha. Joui and Cristopher are helping Jessica, who says that "before she was hired, the library was abandoned". Meanwhile, the rest of the group searches the archives to learn more about the Lunatic Doctor, finding a newspaper in the archives from 1918. The headline related to the Batista family case that became the origin of the Lunatic Doctor legend.[1]

In the news, it is revealed that Virgulino Batista had been lynched by the local population after they found out that he was torturing his wife and daughter in the basement of their house in the forest. He was killed and his body was buried in front of his house, while his daughters were admitted to the Pequena Carpa Sanatorium for care.[2]

After reading this newspaper, Christopher suggests that they visit the Sanatorium and the team theorizes about various points in the case, returning to ask Jessica questions about the version she knows of the legend of Lunatic Doctor. She reveals that usually lost drivers can hear his laugh and that he can kidnap people and take them to his house in the woods to experiment on.

Shortly after this, Joui asks if anyone has appeared before them looking for this case, to which Jessica responds that yes, apparently a group of older people had visited the library about 5 months ago, they took many books and looked up the legend of Lunatic Doctor as well. However, when Cesar asks if there were two boys and a girl, she replies that there were men and women, but that the group had 5 people, they had no tattoos, they looked like college professors and they were well dressed. The agents later deduce that the scientists from the Project Holy Cradle visited the library.

The Team H then asks for old maps of the city, gaining access to a map from the time of the case (1918), when Carpazinha was still known as Pequena Carpa, according to Jessica. That way, they manage to find the location of the Pequena Carpa Sanatorium, the next place they decide to investigate.[2]

The Carpazinha Library is mentioned again in the 2nd episode of The Secret in the Woods, when the team separates from Thiago, the group asks him to go back to the Library and look for more about one of the employees of the Sanatorium, nurse Luciene, former cleaner at the Carpazinha Library.[3]
