Synopsis[]

The rules are changing. Kian guides the Escribes through the ruins of Domus Aurea to find information about the connection of the Relics of Calamity and Ordo Calamitas. However, the mythology of the place promises to hinder the work of their Markeds.

Summary[]

The team of Kian's markeds is teleported to the St. Menefreda Orphanage, where Kian finally appears. He says to them to go to the Golden House built by Nero — Domus Aurea, connected to Semper Clausa through its undergrounds.

It isn't long before they arrive. Gal receives a message that urges him to send a photo. In doing so, in the same scenario as the photo sent, Kian appears again. He briefly explains what happened to the occurrence of his disappearance.[2] After the search for a passage to the ruins of the base of Ordo Calamitas, Alef finds it and the escribes follow Kian down a dark corridor and observe the statue of Veritus with the wretched semblance. When Kian touches the statue, he falls unconscious.[3]

After a while, he gets up and speaks as he remembers this place, mentioning that Arnaldo Fritz is waiting for him. The escribes arrive where Kian indicated that they should enter and where they had kept the Relic of Blood in the past. Kian convinces them to enter. Upon opening the door, the team notices several cells and notices grunts. However, an Armored Blood Zombie knocks down the door of its cell and attacks Boris, that counters with a strong attack. Gal uses his Ereshkigal and T-Bag finishes the monster with an arrow. However, one more becomes visible. Boris and Gal again attack it and T-Bag shoots it in the mouth. Artemis fires with her sniper, destroying it, finally, with a shot in the mouth.[4]

The escribes walk down a corridor, noticing a bass sound. Upon arriving in a room, they see a large statue of a headless monster, which Damir identifies as a minotaur. The bass sounds continue and T-Bag even hears a sound of a mechanism. In this room, the team comes across the largest creature they had ever seen: the Cyclops. It is a bald, fat being whose stripes that hold it cause painful bruises. It is from the Cyclops that originates the mechanism sound previously heard by T-Bag, since the monster is disemboweled and fastened to the floor by gears that seem to be interconnected with a trapdoor on the other side of the room. Every time the Cyclops moves, the gears turn it. In its head lies a single red eye, whose power paralyzes anyone who faces it.[5]

There is the attempt of stealth of the group, but Boris makes a sound and, in a misfortune, the group stares at the grotesque eye. Some are stunned, although others manage to distract the monster so that it turns and opens the trapdoor. When it is revealed that at this location there is a crossbow, the group quickly notices that it is out of ammunition. With stealth, the escribes manage to turn the corridor and find a locked door. However, as they ascend to the other part of the bifurcation, they find the beginning of a labyrinth. There’s dried blood on the ground in the shape of footprints of a creature, which they deduce is the Minotaur.

Rounding the labyrinth, the group finds an ancient plaque whose design informs three people facing a Minotaur: one of them has a ball of wool, the second has a dagger and the last holds a red cape. Next door, a lever is revealed. When the team unlocks it, all doors immediately close. In a bloodstain coming from the wall, a grotesque figure appears with blood bulbs covering its body and one of its hands joined symbiotically to a bone axe. It's the Minotaur. In fury, the monster growls and runs towards the escribes.[6]

The fight begins. The group discusses whether or not to attack the Minotaur, although they are often attacked and run over by the hate-filled monster. The escribes decide, therefore, to seek the three items of the painting previously seen. Notoriously, they find them; even if they are seriously injured in this process. T-Bag, with the dagger tied to one of his arrows, is caught by the Minotaur. However, it sticks the arrow in the monster’s eye and breaks it, progressing the painful and agonizing blood infection that the Minotaur felt. Gal uses the red cape, drawing the enemy’s attention, making it go uncontrollably towards the object stuck in the wall with the Ereshkigal. Artemis manages to hit with a hard shot. Gal then moves his weapon with the chains and finishes the Minotaur, attacking it in the back of the head. [7]

The Minotaur’s severed head is placed on the statue, revealing a key. Driving up a staircase whose destination is a Blood Church, the team finally arrives at the place where Kian informed them previously that the Relic of Blood would be. The church is completely bloodied. Its stained glass windows are red and there is a red carpet in the shape of the Blood symbol, that extends to a small staircase. Where there would be an altar, a throne lies. As they approach, the team sees a door open. Gal recognizes the voice that forces the door; and of the things he least expected in that place, his favorite band was one of them. Team Kian is face-to-face with the Metallic Dragons.[8]

Gal is in shock, discredited that the members of his favorite band are now his enemies. Still, they fight the same way. The escribes don’t attack first. The band uses a shield, protecting the members, to which one of the members throws a flashbang towards the escribes. They also use an incendiary in Artemis, Boris and Damir. T-Bag shoots at Leandro's jugular, leaving him to die in the ground. Gal knocks down Marcos, but Roberto, with his skills, makes both colleagues stand up and Leandro is healed. Kurt shoots Boris, but Damir heals him. T-Bag kills Marcos even after they heal him. The escribes also kill Roberto, but the Dragons make Artemis fall with a shotgun blast. Kurt is killed by Gal. Leandro, seeing the whole scene, in which all his friends of years are dead, walks towards Artemis dying on the ground and blows the woman’s head off with a shot.[9] Eventually, he is shot in the back of the head by T-Bag. It is the end of all Metallic Dragons.

Boris punctuates his desire to take Artemis' body elsewhere, whereupon T-Bag takes the woman’s paw amulet and hangs it around his neck. However, Kian appears in the room. The Realizer of the Calamity speaks to his followers, ensuring that they should not cling to bodies and deaths, since nothing would have happened after Calamity. Unable to do anything to contradict him, Boris and the other escribes watch Kian use the Unexist Ritual on Artemis' deceased body. Dagan appears and is gifted by Gal with the red cape and medallion of the Metallic Dragons.

Under Kian’s order, all present leave the room - except Gal, with whom Kian wishes to converse.

The Realizer of the Calamity again begins a monologue, underscoring the importance of Gal to get his powers, and explains that he is more powerful than he could have imagined, also revealing something important for his subordinate: his sister is in Tenebris. Kian opens one of his hands and demonstrates a sublime translucent, mesmerizing and magnificent flame to the younger escribe. For Gal, it is like watching a glimpse of God. This flame gradually takes on sharper proportions and becomes the Blade of Fear, which is spiked into Gal’s stomach by his master.

Kian’s look of contempt is the last thing Gal can look at before his master leaves the room, leaving him alone with someone who would do anything - including betraying Ordo Realitas — for her vengeance. For Tristan and for Team Spies.

In the gloom, Gal sees the look of hatred of Clarissa Leão.[10]
