Synopsis[]

Arthur, Balu and Rubens join the members of Hell Hunters and Obscurité to defend the Leone's Mansion from an invasion led by time-bound escribes.

Summary[]

In a rush, Arthur, Balu and Rubens head to the Leone's Mansion, with Rubens treating Balu’s injuries while Arthur drives. Upon arriving at the scene, the atmosphere is quiet. Balu tries silently to see how the interior of the mansion is but, unsuccessfully, he steps on a branch and almost gets shot from inside the hall towards him. Soon after, Arthur decides to enter the place and, when opening the door waiting for the worst, he sees the Hell Hunters and Ivete alive. After a brief conversation, Arthur goes to the mansion garage to burn the bodies of some Escribes who had tried to invade the site in the absence of the team. Arriving in the room, he finds two Markeds from Obscurité: Yuki Saito and Dominic Sy Pierre. Both were finishing loading the bodies of the Existeds and Escribes to burn them in the center of the garage. Meanwhile, Balu and Rubens went down to the underground base, finding Samuel and Maxime, another member of the Obscurité, in the research room. After a brief conversation, all members reunite in the main hall to decide how to deal with the next wave of invaders. At the end of the structuring of a strategy for the next attack, Rubens sees, through the security cameras of the mansion, several Escribes using golden adornments and some monsters entering the mansion - both through the windows of the upper floor and the entrance to the ground floor.

Prepared for the attack, the agents separate and begin to counter the invaders. Arthur quickly makes a clear shot with his rifle in a Death Existed, instantly killing the creature, while a Mummy attacks Dominic. He blocks and finishes it with his scythe. Yuki proceeds with her rituals upon a escribe carrying a spiraling shield, while an archer escribe attacks her with her arrows. The team kills two of the three Escribes present there. The third and last escribe in the room suddenly begins to cry black ooze and falls dying. In the end, outside the Leone's Mansion, Arthur recognizes a huge and muscular figure: Gregory, one of the Escribes that was with Gal in the day that Elizabeth Webber was murdered. Gregory stood at the door of the mansion with ooze dripping from his eyes like tears. After Yuki advances and finishes him with just a stroke of her swords, from behind the body of the escribe a figure is revealed: a black woman, short, with black stripes that descended from her eyes like viscous tears, carrying a large cane. Arthur also recognizes her; it was Nubi, another escribe that was with Gal in the St. Menefreda Orphanage.

Arthur tries to shoot her in her direction, but fails. The leader then sends everyone away, recognizing that Nubi is extremely powerful. Meanwhile, the escribe approaches with tranquility, apparently only in order to talk. At the same time, Balu finishes a two-headed mummy and Dominic does the same with a four-headed mummy. Nubi then addresses the differences in perception of time between her and her brother. For Gregory, only a few seconds have passed since the fire in the St. Menefreda Orphanage, in 2009. However, for the escribe, thousands of years had passed. She mentions that everything needs an end and, before she ceases her speech, she says that Kian is the only one who can pull her out of eternity.

Nubi then creates a colossal puddle of ooze and a giant hand comes out of a crevice, revealing the Sphinx Carrion. At the start of the battle, Balu is questioned in the first riddle of the Sphinx, but he fails to decipher it, being devoured by the monster. However, he manages to get out of its interior with the help of Yuki. In an attempt to impress his colleagues and show his strength, Fabrizio Leone has his backbone broken by the creature, tragically becoming quadriplegic. When the Sphinx jumps to finish it and at the same time attacks Ivete, Rubens and Dominic, Rubens uses his Phantom Leap Ritual to teleport them from there, only remaining Yuki and Balu to be attacked. Yuki is also caught in the second Sphinx puzzle, being devoured after not knowing how to answer it, but is quickly taken from inside the creature by Balu.

So Yuki takes this moment to attack the monster with her Paradox Ritual, but she fails and ends up killing Margot Renaud's twin brother, almost driving the Obscurité member almost insane. The Sphinx then again makes a riddle to Balu, who this time manages to decipher it correctly. Margot is later taken from this state by Marc's sister, Désirée Menet. Arthur, using his Curse Weapon with Energy Ritual on his rifle, shoots, making a purple ray onto the creature, reaching it directly in the head. In an explosion of ooze, the Sphinx is defeated.

After the creature’s defeat, the team goes directly to question Nubi, but to no avail. Balu, furious at the cryptic lines of the escribe, uses his blood axe and smashes her head. As they examine her belongings, Balu finds a curious paper inside the escribe’s cane, and shows it to the colleagues. The ancient paper had a Spiral Symbol very similar to Arthur; something that was very similar to the Holy Cradle's Spiral Symbol. The leader observes the drawing, feeling a strange nostalgia, with a pulsating desire to transform himself again into a Lusidii consuming him. However, resisting the temptations, Arthur keeps the paper and goes to the medical ward while Balu, sensing a paranormal aura coming from Nubi’s cane, guards it. The agents deliberate on quickly returning to The Colosseum.

Dominic and Yuki talk during the recovery in the ward, suspecting that the invading Escribes would likely be behind the box delivered by the duo at the mansion under the orders of Marc Menet. The two mention that they have no idea about the contents of the box, as they did not open it at any time, as requested by Marc. They discuss whether or not to open the box.

Outside, Balu picks up a guitar from one of the cabinets in the house, and sits on a tree trunk he had previously cut in the gardens of the residence. He starts playing a song, and Rubens, who passed by, ends up listening to it. He sings the song "You'll Be in My Heart", from the Disney movie Tarzan. At the end of the song, the two have a dialogue and Rubens, seeing him emotional, tries to console him. Both hug each other, comforting each other in relation to the loss of their loved ones and with the idea of always being their best version, to pride those who are gone.
