Prologue is the initial episode of Paranormal Order: Calamity, the fourth season of the series Paranormal Order. It aired on September 4, 2021.

Synopsis[]

A new team of agents is assigned to resume an old case of Arnaldo Fritz. The veterans Arthur Cervero and Dante join Rubens Naluti, Antônio Pontevedra and Carina Leone in pursuing the clues of the possible entity described as The Devil while seeking information about the Relics of Calamity.

Summary[]

In a dark and messy room, there is a middle-aged woman. She hears brief footsteps coming from the other side of the door and immediately covers her ears. She hears the sound of knocking on the door, and then a child’s voice is heard: "Mommy?".

At the interior of Bariguara on Mato Grosso, Carina Leone arrives by car, meeting Rubens Naluti. They are in front of a house that contains some information necessary for their investigation. The two hear noises of what looks like a fight from inside the house, Rubens looks through a crack and Carina knocks on the door. They see a black woman who looks about 50 years old opening the door, it’s Terezinha Gominho, and entering the house, they meet Antônio Pontevedra arguing with Cícero Gominho about a cheese snack.^[2]

The group begins a small investigation at the site. According to reports from residents, the neighbor of Terezinha and Cícero, Elza Verlaz, died. The couple claims that the devil walked through those areas, and the agents continue to question them. Apparently, Elza had locked herself in her home, and by night Cícero would have seen the "Devil", a horned human form, holding a child. However, amid the questions run over by the agents, Carina hears a scream coming from the house of the deceased.^[3]

By checking, they see a Blood Zombie with none of its organs, and Felipe Firmino, a cop, fleeing desperately from the creature. Carina leaves for the balcony and the newly assembled team prepares. In battle, Rubens shoots, but with no effect, and Balu charges into the monster, striking it with his axe. The creature returns with a claw. Rubens advances and takes another shot, removing a portion of the monster’s head. Carina stealthily grabs her weapon and attacks the creature. After a few attacks, Rubens kills the monster with his hammer.^[4]

After the fight, Carina approaches Elza’s house, which is completely destroyed and messy. The agent just closes the door to prevent something else from getting out. Back to the house, Cícero finally shows a video that he himself recorded: a man, with huge and pointed horns, taking a child and leaving footprints of blood on the floor.^[5]

A flashback starts, with Agatha showing to Dante the same footage of the supposed Devil. Agatha starts arguing with Dante about how Kian's plan doesn't make sense, but she's interrupted by Ivete that says that Arthur andAaron were arriving. Arthur goes to the Order's occultism room where he says goodbye to Ivete, and the other 3 go to a meeting with Mr. Verity, starting to talk about Arnaldo's grimoire and that the important pages were ripped off, and the three would be assimilated into a new team with Arthur in the lead.

After the flashback ends, Arthur and Dante arrives at Cícero's house, and both present themselves. Claiming to be ready, they then finish interrogating Cícero and Terezinha and go to investigate Elza’s house, where documents are found. The agents go to a bathroom, and try to open a door, unsuccessfully. Dante and Carina look for something in the room, finding a broken frame with a photo of a circus facade. They find a warehouse, where Arthur finds a rusty tin can with a formula for baby food dated 1997, and a new page in the diary saying that "he" was going to visit her every day. After exploring a hut adjacent to the house and collecting the documents found, Arthur opens a door and comes across a room totally messy, smelling of burnt papers and many things on the floor, several statues of the devil in an occultist symbol and on the wall is written in blood: "the devil", "please leave me alone", "he's back". While investigating the room, they find a page saying that that was the last day, mentioning Arnaldo Fritz, and a part of the story, about the mom.

The agents then remember that Cícero and Terezinha had mentioned a neighbor, Eusébio^[6], that lived next door, and decide to question him. Upon arriving at the house, Dante hears a strange noise and feel something paranormal that he had never felt before. Through the window, Rubens He sees an old man with some scars, and a chirping TV on. They decide to enter the house posing as a police team doing a search, but the man appears to be crazy, saying that radio noises tell "the truth". Balu and Arthur keep talking with the old man, while Dante enters the room and finds a leather diary talking about Juan, known as "The Devil", a man who acted in a circus and got Elza pregnant, and that they apparently tried to turn the child into the devil, until "Eric Typhoon" appeared and stopped them. Hidden, Carina enters Eusébio’s garage, finding a closet, where she finds a page that tells her how to open the trapdoor lock. Some conversations and memories later, the agents leave and remember that the name Eric Typhoon, the hero of the films that saved Eusébio and killed the demon from the basement, was the protagonist of a film of Arnaldo Fritz, i.e Eusébio confused with the character when seeing the actor.

Down the trapdoor, now that they have managed to open it, they come to a stuffy and dirty place with a metal door.^[7] Upon opening it, the agents come across a large statue of the devil and a tub of blood with a page inside, but not wet, along with a picture frame of a person with horns and a man bathing a baby in blood, and behind a text talking about "using the baby to summon the devil". On the page that Arthur had found it saying about someone who was never loved, claiming to be the son of the devil himself and who just needed them to open the door.

They hear sounds coming from upstairs in the house, Balu opens the trapdoor with force and takes a fright to see the elderly couple Cícero, Terezinha and the cop Felipe, that scares and shoots at him, but missing. After talking a little, everyone hears four knocks on the door of the house and a childish voice outside that asks: "Mommy?".^[8] Cícero runs towards the door and threatens to open it, but before, he tells the agents that he made a deal, a deal with the own Devil. Carina and Arthur try to convince him to not open the door, but without success, and then Cícero opens the door.

Behind the door is a standing child, whom Dante recognizes as being Denis Batista, the child he tried to save in the ritual with Kian, but he was different, with deep cuts on a totally smooth face. Claws begin to emerge from the wounds on his face, and the child turns into a freak, a monster, The Needy.^[9]

The battle starts.^[10] Dante makes a ritual to create 3 copies of himself. Arthur picks a precision rifle from his guitar case and aims at the creature. The Needy attacks Balu with its needle, and strikes Carina with its claws. Dante casts a second ritual, that creates a replica of the monster between his hands, a replica that begins to vibrate. Arthur takes a shot with his rifle, which explodes one of the monster’s arms. Dante finishes his ritual, clapping his hands and causing severe damage. Dante activates once again his ritual. The Needy attacks Carina, knocking her down, stabbing her with its needle and rotting her insides, while Rubens tries to use his hammer to attack the creature, but without success. Arthur gives another shot, now with his pistol, because he dropped his rifle after receiving a charge from the monster. Dante then finishes his repetition ritual causing more damage to the creature and, seeing Carina fallen and injured on the ground, uses a ritual to heal her. Rubens uses a ritual and teleports to the bathroom with Balu, who was injured, but he soon returns to the fight. Carina, after recovering from her injuries, shoots one of her knives into the forehead of the child who was suspended in the air by the monster, until Balu finishes the monster.^[11]

Dante, at the end of the battle, uses a healing ritual on Felipe, that had been brutally attacked by the creature and after being stabilized, the policeman vomits a scroll, which Dante identifies as being one of the pages of the Grimoire of Arnaldo Fritz.
