Without reasoning or strategic thinking at any moment, they move only by an obsessive and brutal frenzy.

Paranormal Order RPG Playbook

The Blood Zombies are paranormal creatures of Blood, originating from corpses that were brutally killed and left abandoned in areas with a weakened Veil. Those serve as a passage for the Blood entity to devour them and take control of their physical form.^[4] The average transformation time of a Blood Zombie is irregular, depending on how much the area is affected by the paranormal or on details of the victim’s life, in case they had a high level of Paranormal Exposure;^[5] suffered an extremely painful and brutal death; or had their corpse completely devoured by Blood. Due to circumstances like that, they might become even more brutal and animalistic Blood Zombies, or even Beastly.

These monsters are the most common and recurring obstacles for investigators, seeping into Reality through the considerable amount of violence and suffering in places with a weak Veil. They’ve been present since the Nostradamus High School case,^[6] to the investigations of the island of Tipora.

Appearance[]

The skin of a Blood Zombie is slimy and reddish, its teeth grow until they all get pointy, also increasing in quantity as the entire mouth grows in size.^[7] All of its nails become large, sharp and elongated claws. Furthermore, these creatures are all blind,^[8] having empty eye sockets, but their exposed skin is so sensitive that they feel pain in the most subtle movements of air, revealing the position of their targets.^[9]

In their Beastly stage, after the creature is completely devoured by the Blood, it becomes much bigger, as do the rest of its transformed limbs. Its flesh and muscle mass increases, becoming even more animalistic and remaining quadrupedal most of the time. Like the rest of the body, its skull also grows exponentially, getting completely split in half from the top and causing its jaw to get enormous, with its fangs doubling in amount. A single bite from its voracious mouth could easily sever human limbs.^[10]

Behavior[]

Blood Zombies are extremely aggressive beasts that seek to slash and devour their victims. They’ve got no mind to reason or to make plans, only attacking uncontrollably fueled by rage, often ignoring their injuries.

When transformed into Bestials, the Blood Zombies’ predatory instincts make them more strategic in behavior, sometimes hiding to sneakily attack their victims while they’re off guard.^[11] In addition, because it’s an advanced stage, the Bestials are even more brutal than their lesser versions.

Abilities[]

Stealthy and lethal: In its Bestial form, the Blood Zombie performs stealth attacks, which can be deadly to its unsuspecting victims.^[11]

Variations[]

Four-armed Blood Zombie[]

The Four-armed Blood Zombie is a variation that only appeared during the announcement trailer of Enigma of Fear. It is a Zombie with a face and appearance similar to a Bestial, but with a muscular and defined body and of greater stature. He also has four large and muscular arms on his torso.

Because of its quick appearance, there is no information about its original form or behavior.^[12]

Dry Blood Zombie[]

The Dry Blood Zombie is barely considered a variation, as its appearance derives from the decrepit corpse of Elza Verlaz, who had her organs removed and her body malnourished. She was still in the process of transforming when she was found by Team Vultures before being killed.^[13]

The creature moves in an erratic and crooked way and its body is frail and weak, but more difficult to be hit by bullets due to its slender size. When biting someone, it’s able to regain some of its empty body by ingesting their victim’s blood.

Semi-Transformed Blood Zombie[]

The Semi-Transformed Blood Zombies are common Blood Zombies still in the process of metamorphosis, being partially taken over by Blood. Naturally, this incomplete form is more fragile and slower.^[14]

Its appearance varies according to the body of the individual being transformed, but it’s notable that at all occasions the person is being consumed by a fleshy Blood and veins that replace the old tissue of the dead body, reconstructing missing limbs if necessary.^[15]

Toothed Blood Zombie[]

Toothed Blood Zombies are creatures that, unlike regular Blood Zombies, have even more prominent teeth around their mouth, less strengthened muscles, better developed leather-like skin and more visible gums.^[16] They are stronger than common Zombies, due to the resistance of their skin that serves as a better defense.

Spiked Blood Zombie[]

The Spiked Blood Zombies have skin similar to common Blood Zombies, but their arms are slightly longer. Its major difference are the many thorns of different sizes coming out of its head and forearms, as well as several of them in the shape of bones in the area of its dorsal spine.^[16]

In general, they are stronger variants and much faster than regular Blood Zombies.

Armored Blood Zombie[]

Armored Blood Zombies are variations of Blood Zombies with a salient spinal column and Blood veins protruding from their bodies and large claws on all four limbs. Their main feature is the use of Roman armor which offers them more resistance, commonly used by soldiers of that time.^[17] They can also have weapons merged into their bodies.

Blood Titan[]

The Blood Titan is a Blood Zombie that forms from the dead remains of a person with a high Paranormal Exposure*, having two pairs of spider-like chelicerae and teeth capable of devouring anything. Its physical strength is monstrously greater than that of a common Blood Zombie or a Bestial, having a robust and difficult to pierce body, covered with a tough skin, unlike regular Zombies that are easily damaged by weapons or projectiles.^[18]

It is possible for this creature to have the ability to shrink and expand itself to a certain extent, as seen when Patrizia Leone’s Blood Titan reduced its size to then expand and expel the poisonous needles stuck to its body to its surroundings. This unique characteristic, however, is related to the situation in which Patrizia died.

Mutilated Blood Zombie[]

The Mutilated Blood Zombie is a variation of the Blood Zombie that also has the Energy Element as a complement, it is formed from a body that had most of its limbs cut off, as it was the case of Rana’s corpse. This Blood Zombie has a huge jaw with sharp teeth and a purple tongue that extends all over its body, seemingly tying together its severed limbs to its torso. Additionally, it has thorns all over its spine and extremely sharp claws, capable of climbing and clinging to steep surfaces. Another feature is a japanese kanji marked on the top of its head, which may be unique to Rana’s transformation.^[19]

Unlike any other Blood Zombies known so far, the Mutilated Blood Zombie is capable of utilizing special abilities of its elements, as it was seen by Rana’s Blood Zombie using the Energy ability of teleportation, which was a ritual she used while she was alive.

Trivia[]

The first Blood Zombies appear in The Paranormal Order, as the result of the transformation of fireman George^[6] and a few students of Nostradamus High School.
The Blood Zombies’ stats in The Secret in the Forest were based off the Ghouls from Call of Cthulhu.
As time went on the Blood Zombies had their appearance and behavior changed, getting gradually more aggressive and irrational because “the Other Side was changing”. This happened as a result of changes in the system and design of the creatures, until Paranormal Order: Deconjuration established what would be considered the current version of the creature, which is considered the most definitive one in the universe of Paranormal Order.^[20]
According to Cellbit during a livestream, the transformation of a Bestial’s face starts with the head, not the mouth.^[21]
According to Cellbit, the Ooze Zombies in The Secret in the Forest did not have the actual appearance of Blood Zombies in reality, being merely illusions created by the Dimensions Parasite, which made them based on the memories of Team H during their journey to the Holy Cradle Cavern.^[22]
