Ayla Valença^[2]

Ayla Valença was one of the protagonists of the series Paranormal Order, present in Gruesome Christmas.^[1]

Ayla Valença was a young woman, intelligent and supportive, marked by fear of being alone. In search of spending Christmas with her family, she faces her anxiety by boarding a night bus, as soon as she knew that her fear would intensify when having her route diverted to the Goodwill Moon's Camp.

While left behind during a chase inside the Juno House, Ayla was attacked by Jae, who hit her head against a bench. With her vision blurred and bleeding, she fell back and tried to move away, but the hooded figure stuck a knife in her back, moving it violently, resulting in fatal injuries. Ayla died on the spot, unable to react.

Appearance[]

Ayla was a brown woman about 5'2" with curly brown hair and eyes also brown. She wore a white T-shirt under a flowery shirt and a pair of jeans with a print full of smiles. She wore a white shoe and completed her look with black sunglasses.

Personality[]

Ayla was extremely intelligent, perceptive and investigative. A defining factor of her personality was her extreme fear of many things, including being alone; because of this she loved having company, whether it was people or animals that she loved. Ayla was also compassionate, always trying to help others, and had a certain facility for making new connections, as seen in her relationship with Melissa. Another remarkable point is that during Jae's chase inside the Juno House, Ayla preferred to stay hand in hand with her newly formed friend Melissa, risking her own life, rather than run away and leave her behind, demonstrating her loyalty and kindness.

Ayla was a college student, studying chemistry. She loved animals and because of that, she worked hard to be vegan. Ayla was also afraid of many things, with some of these being: being alone, dark, loud noises and horror movies.^[3]

Despite her limited courage, Ayla sought to be by the side of those she loved, especially in significant moments. So, on Christmas Eve, determined to reunite with her family, she boarded a night bus. However, what seemed to be a common trip to celebrate the end of year holidays took an unexpected turn, taking her even to the shady Goodwill Moon's Camp, where she would face her fears in ways she never imagined before.

Gruesome Christmas[]

Ayla slept on a night bus in a rainy night, accompanied by other unknown passengers, on the way to meet her family. During the journey, the bus has an accident when the tire got flat. Some of the passengers leave to try to change the tire, while Ayla decides to stay inside the bus, watching from the window next to Melissa, while the others were fixing the vehicle. However, Ayla distracts herself with Joto on Mike's lap. During a conversation with the other passengers, Ayla realizes that the sound of the driver fixing the bus suddenly stops, as well as other passengers, who then go to check what happened. The driver disappeared and the bus continues with a flat tire.

The group then notes that the flat tire is in front of a camp, with an X marked in the spot, and footprints that follow towards the camp. They decide, then, to go down this path. They invade the property and go through some picnic tables until they split. Ayla, Melissa, Jorge and Breno go to a hut that is closed and with the lights off. Ayla suggests breaking down the door and Jorge tries, but he doesn't get it. They then head to a second, larger, lighted hut called Juno House. On the way, they are surprised by Mike and Lucio, running desperate, being chased by rottweilers. The group, instinctively, enters quickly in the Juno House and closes to door behind themselves, escaping from the dogs.

Inside the Juno House, the group finds a phone and call the police. While waiting for the arrival of help, they dry up and realize that above the fireplace there is an X mark and a macabre picture on the wall. The group starts to search the house, checking some gifts and lockers. Ayla, Breno, Jorge and Melissa remain on the first floor. When the police arrives, they explain the situation, but the officer doesn't help at all. He says they are safe and he'll return later. Realizing that they can not count on the police, Ayla comments to Melissa that now they have only each other.

The group then returns to the fireplace room and hear an explosion sound as the light goes out. Scared, Ayla and the group goes towards the noise, passing through the kitchen, where they find an X marked on the stove. Ayla, curious, checks the stove, realizing that the X is like the others they had seen before. Meanwhile, Mike finds Ayla’s Power Bank inside the fridge and she starts to smell a burning. Ignored by the group, Ayla warns Breno that she smells some burned wire. They follow the smell, which seems to come from the same direction as the sound of the explosion, and leave the house. When they are outside, Breno notices a hooded figure through the bushes. He runs to close the door, but it knocks alone. Inside the house, stuck on the door, is a frightening message: "Let's play. I hide, you look out."

Ayla, along with the group, desperately tries to find a way out of the now locked Juno House. They split up in search of the key. Ayla returns to the stove, but finds nothing. Then she explores the adjacent room, where she finds a map of the camp on a table. She shows the map to Mike and while waiting for him at the door, who went to the bathroom, they hear Melissa calling them. Melissa pulls them to another room, where she and Breno were investigating. Ayla takes the opportunity to show the map to them too.

Ayla then notices a door that had not yet been explored and decides to enter. She finds a library and starts to search the area near the sofa, where there is a small cabinet with a garland. When opening the closet, Ayla feels a shiver. Her blood freezes, and a chill runs through her. A red shadow jumps out of the closet and violently stabs a knife at Ayla. She falls to the ground, bleeding and desperate, trying to move away from the figure.

The group hears Ayla’s scream. Breno runs to the door of the room and sees what happened, acting instinctively by throwing a book against the figure. Melissa arrives at the door and asks Breno to pull Ayla away from there. The figure continues approaching Ayla, who is pulled by Breno, and then by Melissa, being practically carried out of the library. Melissa takes Ayla to the lobby, where they look for something to stop the blood.

Meanwhile, Mike, Lucio and Jorge jump from the second floor with a set of keys, desperately trying to unlock the door. In the lobby, after failing to open the door, Melissa starts carrying Ayla to the back door in the kitchen. However, they are surprised by Breno, who runs desperate and wounded towards the group, with the figure just behind him.

Now, everyone is running towards the back door, fleeing from the figure. Ayla and Melissa run hand in hand, each concerned about the other, which ends up delaying both. Realizing they were falling behind, they split up, going in different directions. Ayla runs towards the bench where Lucio was, but the figure attacks her, pushing her head against the bench. Everything starts to spin as Ayla falls to the ground, with her vision blurred and blood covering her eyes.

The figure is beside her, lying down, and Ayla, still in shock, falls on one of the arms of the figure. It smiles at Ayla, who tries to get away but realizes it was too late. The figure had stuck a knife in her back and begins to move the blade through her interiors while watching Ayla, who is writhing in vain.

Abilities[]

Power of Friendship: Ayla chooses someone to be her best friend. If she is in medium range of her best friend and they can at least exchange looks, she gets +2 on all skill tests. However, if the friend dies, her DP is reduced –1.

Effort: When doing a skill test, Ayla can use 1 DP to get +2 on the test.
