Ana Vitória Batista was a resident girl of the municipality of Pequena Carpa. She lived in a house away from the city inside the forest, with her father Virgulino Batista and her mother Lurdete Batista.
Appearance[]
The only description of her appearance came from a photo found on the Batista's House, where it is described that she had blonde hair like her mother’s.[1]
Biography[]
The story of Ana is told through the pages of Lurdete’s diary,[2] scattered throughout the Batista's House. Ana loved landscapes for having learned to like art thanks to the work of her mother as a painter, so having the desire to make some paintings as a birthday gift for her father.[3] In this way, she and her mother went to explore new landscapes within the forest, to make Virgulino proud and content with her daughter.
In one of these explorations, they found a hill overlooking some caves in the distance. Ana then had the idea to hide her paintings in one of these caves to surprise Virgulino.[4] The two went to the entrance of one of the caves and, without entering it, Ana made a painting of its exterior.[5] They then returned home planning to explore more the next day. As they returned to the cave and explored it, something mysterious happened, causing both Ana and her mother to lose their minds, becoming obsessed with spiral shapes. They began to write and speak words like "The Cradle", "The Infinite Labyrinth", "Our Holy" and "The Five Guardians", as well as drawing the same spiral symbol without stopping.[6]
Ana was imprisoned with her mother in the basement of her home by Virgulino, who decided to study and perform various experiments in an attempt to cure them of this deplorable state of mind. His attempts were unsuccessful until, in April 1918, Ana and Lurdete were found by the local population. Shocked by the conditions in which the two were, the population believed that both were like that because of Virgulino’s experiments, someone who would never harm his family. Because they mistakenly believed that Dr. Virgulino was responsible for the state of Ana and Lurdete, the population lynched him and buried him alive in the backyard of his house.[7] Ana and Lurdete were then sent to the Pequena Carpa Sanatorium, being under the care of Dr. Verruckt and the nurses on site.[6]
In the Sanatorium, they were admitted as "Patients 21 and 22", respectively, and were kept in Cell 5. The two were always together and, if separated, they would scream until they were united again. Doctor Verruckt allowed to give notebooks and writing tools to them to stop using their own blood for such a function.[6] During the Patient 71's attack in 1950, they remained locked in their cell until they were discovered already in 2020 by a team from the Order. But they had already become one creature, the Ooze Maggot, that was killed and burned at the scene by the team.[8]
